Opened on 5 May 2008, the hotel’s latest addition is Hudson's Bar. The bar blends contemporary and traditional influences, with a solid walnut floor and panelling, a magnificent copper-topped bar, innovative lighting, and comfortable, under-lit leather seating.

The bar also screens all major sporting events from Sky Sports and Setanta.

Area information

The Northern Hotel has a wonderful location in Brechin, right in the heart of Angus. The good location makes the hotel a great base from which to explore all that the region has to offer.

If you think Scotland means deep lochs, bonny glens, turreted castles and welcoming hospitality, then you will not be disappointed with this part of Angus. From the edge of the Grampian Mountains to the long sandy beaches and red sandstone cliffs, Angus is full of surprises. Superb walking in the Angus Glens, world-class golf at Carnoustie, bird watching at the spectacular basin at Montrose and historic properties in abundance, including Glamis Castle and the House of Dun. A short drive takes you to Royal Deeside and the Queen’s much-loved Balmoral Castle.

The Northern Hotel also makes an excellent base for those sampling the top golf courses in the area. The courses on offer are an enjoyable mixture of parkland, heath and links that would satisfy any golfer’s every need.

Closest to the hotel is Brechin golf course, a relatively flat course,which boasts wonderful views of the Grampian mountains. The greens are the outstanding element here, reputedly the best in the county, especially on the old Braid section.

Edzell Golf Club lies at the gateway to the Grampians in the foothills of the Angus Glens. Indeed, the mountains form a wonderful backdrop to this lovely course. The course is situated in 128 acres of beautiful heath and parkland.
