The rooms were huge and it was nice to have a toilet separate to the bathroom. There was plenty of hot water and the water pressure was excellent. The reception area was smart and the staff were efficient. The blackout curtains were a good idea.I Didn't try breakfast as I had to leave very early in the morning. Very easy to find from the motorway into Plymouth. Large free (if somewhat pot holed) carpark which is a great bonus in this area. The hotel room doors have no safety chain or peephole and no visible way of locking the door from the inside. I travel often as a lone female and this would do nothing to put me at my ease. There is no folder/hotel information in the room. The bedlinen was torn and there were holes in the blackout curtains. The hotel seems tired...woodchip wallpaper and paintwork that is dated and chipped. The bath was so high that at five foot eight tall I struggled to step up into it so if you are shorter, good luck! The carperts were heavily stained. The rack rate for a double room was £125 and there is no way it is worth that- luckily I paid £45 which was as much as I would have been happy to pay to be honest.

Where do I start?! The hotel has obviously seen better days in terms of decor. The room itself was very shoddy with very dirty marks on the walls and carpet. The bathroom was grimy, including very dirty grouting between the tiles. Even the towels provided were somewhat grubby. I complained via email to the hotel's head office directly an hour after arrival due to the fact the swimming pool was closed (one of the main reasons for visiting the hotel), the fact that there was a mangled clothes airer adorning the vista from my hotel window, the lack of coathangers (we had two) etc etc. The bed was the size of a postage stamp. On awaking the following morning, my partner discovered something within the bed had severely cut his thumb. On closer investigation we discovered that the bed base was coming apart revealing staples. We advised the hotel reception of all of the above and were provided with a whopping £10.00 discount from our stay. All in all, definitely a hotel to miss! It is severely in deed of an upgrade. We are talking about the fact that door access is via key rather than swipe card and the television is old school CRT. They definitely need to bring themselves into the new millenium. My partner and I had far better accommodation in a local B&B in Salisbury the following night.

Took the offer of £17.50 for the night including breakfast. Really good offer for the venue though we did not take advantage of the breakfast sadly. Entrance hall warm and inviting, liked the decor. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Booked in to room 227 first but the light would not turn on properly and flickered constantly. But without hesitation the receptionist moved me to the room next door Rest of hotel from corridors to the rooms, very tired decor and not very clean. Our room (229) had quite a big cobweb in the corner from the ceiling. Cups had water in the bottom with dead fly. Just a bit lazy cleaning really. Curtains in room were like shower curtain fabric and our window wouldn't shut properly which meant the a38 traffic noice was not totally blocked out. However... As we were out til late this was not really a problem for us. Would stay again but probably only if it was at the reduced rate offer again.

Needed a bit of updateing but great value for money and good breakfast. Could have done with a bit more room between double bed and wall as the bedroom was plenty big enough for the bed and headboard to be moved. I am not a big person but anyone who is would not get out of bed. There was noise from traffic especially if you like the window open like us but we took note from other reviewers and asked for a back room which is a lot quieter.

Could not fault the price - £17.50 for 2 of us including breakfast! Staff very polite and helpful. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast excellent, freshly cooked and hot. I remember staying here many years ago when it was still a Novotel. It is now in great need of refurbishment - public areas fine but our room was tired. Window did not close properly, black mould around the bath and stains on the carpet.Having said that, it would not prevent me staying again.

Checkout was infact the best part of the stay at this particular hotel. The staff were rude, our hotel room door was left unlocked most of the time by the cleaners and the service was poor.

Breakfast was fantastic. Lots of choice and all very good quality. The rooms are in need of a complete overhaul. It wasn't dirty as such but it all seemed to be a little bit shabby.

Good breakfast. This used to be a good hotel when it was a Novotel. Now it's changed hands it's gone down in quality. Apart from the reception staff, who were very nice, the rest were inefficient and unfriendly.

We liked the location and it was a good price overall The evening staff in particular were quite miserable especially the young lad who dealt with the fire alarm issue that went off at 3.45am. We encountered his charmless nature the following evening too when we arrived back from a family outing only to be met with his stern look. The cook also could have been happier, he didn't crack a smile 'ever' for the duration of out stay. The hotel itself is very good value for money, but the some staff (not all) let it down.

The overall standard was quite good, the room was on a par with Premier and Travelodge facilities I have used, basically its just what you'd expect, nothing fancy, but good. The food in the restaurent however was something else. I found the food and the service excellent and of a very high standard, both the buffet style breakfast and the food served throughout the day. Overall its a place I wouldn't hesitate to use again. The room decor was a bit bland being mainly white and pale colours, whilst I can understand the reasoning for this a splash of bright colour, furnishings etc, would be a significant improvement.

Financially we had a very good deal for our one night stay and we were satisfied. However, had we paid the nondiscounted price the review would have been somewhat different. Our room was fine but the common parts of the hotel, corridors etc were in great need of tlc. See above

Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is good for access to the area. Breakfast and meals good but nothing special. Hotel needs some upgrading. Room and hotel a bit tired for a major hotel group. Would only stay when the price is right.
