The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.
Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

Harrogate is lovely and our only regrets were the food on offer in the hotel restaurant plus the attempt to rip me off when the bill came. And we would have liked a bit more time so as to visit Bettys tea shop

Harrogate is a very pretty town and makes a good base to explore the area. It has lots of good restaurants like Piccolino, The Tannin Level or Oliveta and many great cafés including the famous Betty's. There aren't many sights in the town but it's very pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the architecture and gardens. Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is worth a visit. Historic York is only a 35 minute train ride away and gorgeous Knaresborough only 15 minutes on the same route.
Still, you'll need quite deep pockets as everything is at least as expensive as in London.

RHS Harlow Carr is my favourite place to visit and the purpose of my trip. I ate at the Old Swan Hotel where I stayed. Pretty easy to get around although there are a lot of one way streets and sometimes it is tricky to drive down some of them due to double parking on each side as the roads can be quite narrow. I would keep to the main roads next time.

Harrogate is walkable town plenty of places to eat especially breakfast
Room was basic but ok, location of the hotel is superb perfect for walking into Harrogate centre.
Fat badger bar staff spot on as usual, table initially reserved wasn't the best for eating but it was soon rectified for us.
The menu is a little sparse, could do with a few more mains options but the food was nice.
Good atmosphere in the hotel as a whole all covid compliant and safe.
Warm welcome and very nice hotel. Orchid restaurant was exceptional and a real treat on the taste buds. We felt spoilt and had a lovely time. Great location near Harrogate’s centre which is a very nice place to walk around. Valley Park is also right next door and truly beautiful! We were able to charge our electric car onsite at a reasonable rate which was the icing on the cake!
Everything about the hotel was really good for me, the parking at the rear (£10 a day) is very good, the food both breakfast and dinner plus very good value for money, it’s location is right across from the exhibition centre and it’s central for most attractions in Harrogate plus the staff were ever so helpful and attentive it’s a 10 all round for me.
This property is beautiful and located in central Harrogate. The rooms offer beautiful views of Harrogate’s iconic landmarks and is less than 10 minutes from the train and bus station, movie theaters, most restaurants, bars and clubs. Even the iconic Turkish baths is just up the road. Next time I come to Harrogate, I will be staying here again.
The room was very clean and comfortable. I was able to keep my one-night room after I joined my group the following day, avoiding moving things. The breakfast was outstanding. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is easy walking distance to the city center of Harrogate and the train station.
The location of the property was great and onsite parking, with it only being a short walk to Harrogate city centre, however it was not made clear when booking that there are two site locations of the aparthotels, and incidentally we were given one that was not pictured in the hotels advertised properties.
Lovely old grand hotel within a 5-minute walk from Harrogate town centre. Parking is on-site, although administered by Harrogate Borough Council so a charge is applicable. Dog friendly too so even better. We only stayed one night and skipped breakfast so can't really comment any further.
Hotel is part of an excellent pub/restaurant and for an easy 1 night stop in Harrogate made for a perfect evening of drinking and eating without worrying about getting back. With its own 2 storey car-park , parking is easy.
The staff are very helpful. Although the hotel looks old, it's surprisingly clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, very near to the city center. I'll definitely stay here if I ever come to Harrogate again.
A stone's throw from Harrogate's town centre, this lovely quaint hotel offered a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. The staff were attentive and they served a great breakfast in the morning.
Lovely hotel in the centre of Harrogate, close to bars and restaurants, not cheap but when the quality is there I don't mind paying which this hotel oozes ! Lovely hotel in a great location.
Comfortable large room, in a Hotel within easy walking distance to Harrogate City Centre. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the Hotel facilities good.
The hotel was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for you. There was a good choice for breakfast. I would recommend to anyone without hesitation.
