This was a beautiful hotel that felt intimate with lovely rooms, great views and excellent food. The staff made every effort to help us have a wonderful stay. We were there before Christmas and it was magical.
There was a mixup with my reservation and we were supposed to have single beds (traveling with my teenage son). I was given an option of getting a single room for my son at a discount but still added to the cost. Ultimately it was fine but not calculated into the cost of the trip.
Liked everything other than poor noise insulation between rooms. We could here everything!
Night receptionist did everything possible to help us. Breakfast staff very polite and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Bathroom was good size. Offer by male member of staff to carry our bags up in the morning - very helpful.
Room was too tiny and too secluded in the basement - this was not good value for the over £250 charged per night. No internet or mobile service in the room. Although given a £25 discount, this was not sufficient for the inconvenience. I was made to feel like I was the only one who had complained about the internet by the woman who gave me the discount. Hot breakfast took too long to be prepared (20-25 min) Mini bar items - the sweets - were ridiculously expensive.
Great service even as a young couple felt very welcome.
Very large and luxurious room, excellent staff, good breakfast and a good but not very cheap restaurant. It was a very comfortable place to relax after spending entire days in the city. If we ever came back to Edinburgh, we would stay here again.
We first got a room on the lower floor in the building where the reception and restaurant are located, which was fairly noisy. We booked a suite and found the noise unacceptable at this price level. After asking at reception whether there were any other suites available, they relocated us to the neighbouring building, which not only was totally quiet, but also a much nicer room. So what started off not very pleasantly, was resolved very well.
Had a challenging first night but the staff really made up for it by making sure I was moved into a very comfortable room for the second night. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Internet was unavailable.
Jacuzzi suite was amazing and the staff were fantastic!
Decor and atmosphere of the buildings was beautiful. Very well looked after. Lovely petite room with a really nice view over the rooftops of Edinburgh. Great to have a small coffee machine in the room to wake up to.
The hotel staff were obviously very new - unsure of the location of our room, leading us up too many flights of stairs and couldn't suggest any local restaurants. The personal notes from the manager was a nice touch but wrongly wrote 'Mr' throughout when referring to myself, being 'Miss'. The entrance is extremely tight and we were left waiting outside whilst the staff dealt with other patrons.
Great breakfast! Great room and great location! Staff very friendly.
The stairs will keep you fit, but...
Nice location Nice staff, quiet place.
The heat is much too strong in the room, and smell of food in the evening.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food and service was excellent. Breakfast was outstanding. Also the decor was well suited.
The bath waste didnt work on room 6/14 and two mattresses in the bed made it uncomfortable. But still was an excellent hotel
Location for Stockbridge, which is a lovely area Friendliness of staff
Slightly cramped We were woken by people above us and a recurrent overflow Not enough room to seat all residents for breakfast
Beautiful garden. Excellent and most helpful staff. Breakfast superb. Room very comfortable and bed first rate.
Although bathroom was modern and update it was difficult to adjust and not much hot water. The bath/shower was hard to access and high off the floor. Slipped and nearly fell 2 feet to floor below. Nothing to hold onto. Not good for anyone with bad knees or balance problems. A step in shower or regular level bath would have been much appreciated.
the hotel style is very nice / old yet chick the size of the room is large hotel staff are friendly
No lifts location is far - needs alot of walking more than 15 minutes to get to closer supermarket and shopping area room cleanning was below expectation
I liked the character which the hotel had. Breakfast was great as was the service. Staff were friendly. The proximity to the centre was good.
We stayed in an attic bedroom which was too small. The temperature in the room was stifling. As a result I was unable to sleep. If I was returning I would be asking for a room on a lower floor.
Its a simple and nice arrangement they have got. And has friendly staff.
No plug points for charging phone and laptop.
Location is perfect, service is friendly and helpful and we had a lovely breakfast.
We paid a lot of money for the room and were in a basement, with a view of bins. The decor is a bit over the top and try-hard but I'm sure the rest of the hotel is lovely. However, if you're paying well over £250 a night you shouldn't be in a basement or at least those rooms should be heavily discounted. We didn't complain simply because we couldn't be bothered with the hassle. Perhaps we should have done as I heard that they gave another guest a free bottle of Champagne because they were put in a basement room....
Lovely location a bit of the beaten track. Lovely room, breakfast excellent served by lovely staff. Highly recommended
Didn't effect us, but hotel has no lift or air conditioning. Stairs are steep. If you are infirm or find stairs difficult avoid.
A fantastic place to stay-the Dean Suite with lots of space and garden access was great
The staff were great
The room was small - bathroom tiny. The bath area seemed a waste of space. The decor seemed a bit dated.
This was our second trip and we we're looking for the same excellent experience. We were not disappointed! We were well looked after by friendly staff and the accommodation was gorgeous. Breakfast was presented beautifully and was very good. Absolutely no complaints at all. We hope to be back again soon.
Great staff, beautiful hotel, good amenities/technology in room
Top floor single with tiny window was a little too warm on a summer's day/evening.
Rory the manager, and the rest of the staff were fantastic. We loved the food, location amd ambience of the hotel.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the jacuzzi was great, food was good.We did not complain whilst there as it would be to much hassle when only staying for two days
The hotel appears to have been updated to a standard that falls below the price bracket. It is the little details that require attention. For example the tiles in the shower room are clearly sheets of panneled tiling that does not match the flooring. The toilet flush was poor, the coffee machine did not work properly, there is no designated place to plug in the hair drier so you need to reach around the back of the lamp, but then the flex is to short. The wardrobe is flimsy MDF and was very dusty at the bottom. These sound minor things but at £200+ a night everything should be good quality not superficial. We would not stay again.
