Stayed here while visiting cheddar gorge and it was lovely! Staff were so polite and always smiling, couldnt do enough for you! Hotel itself was lovely and in a lovely place. Bed was so comfy could have stayed in there all weekend! Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will be coming back for another stay!
The beds, the bedding, the towels, tea and coffee in room, the cleanliness, the friendly staff, a loaf at breakfast that you can cut yourself to make your own toast, thats all I require for breakfast. I'm glad that you can have food every night now, and it need not be a large meal.
Can't think of anything!........ Oh we couldn't get broadband in our room so had to go and sit in reception, but the matter is in hand so shouldn't be a problem the next time we go.
The host, staff, food, welcome and general ambiance. Together with the locals at the bar, makes it a great place to stay.
Shown standard room on check in but it was small with 4'6" bed. Upgraded to superior room which was lovely, free standing bath in bedroom plus walk in shower in bathroom. Bed extremely comfortable. Good breakfast also!
Standard rooms are a little small with small double bed. Public areas of bedroom block very tired and in need of refurb.
Quality of accommodation, food, service and ambience.
As you will see from our reviews its not very often we leave a bad review for accommodation, but this is far from what some of the reviews state on here, apologies don't know if they are the owners friends etc but honestly for the monies paid it was far from good. Booked on website and decided to purchase a Deluxe Double Room. Arrived and shown to room swiftly. After finally arriving at the room via a rabbit warren run we arrived at Room 3 Shock !! totally wind blown out of sales. Yes the deluxe room has a sofa that you cannot sit at because you cannot see the TV, no coffee table to put your coffee cups, No Iron, couple of discoloured robes in what can only described as awfull wardrobe space. Room was cold we asked and advised heating not on yet. 4.30pm Returned at 10pm room was only luke warm, very cold during nite as heating was turned off and advised at 4.30pm no other means of heating. Bed was uncomfortable and lack of sleep for 4 hours was not adding to the visit. Outside the noise is poor as folk from downstairs restaurant smoking talk loud and road noise is huge. Breakfast was OK few slices of bread to toast, Juices, Cereal and cooked that is cooked fresh but took 20 mins. I informed waitress/ receptionist on checking out all the issues and in our opinion the lady owner who was present in the location but backed away when she heard my complaint and the fact that it is not worth monies paid. I complained No Light in bathroom Tiling of walls Damp on walls Wallpaper coming away No heating in night noise outside and should have sign up etc etc All receptionist/waitress could say was sorry I will speak to management - whom was behind us. and she could not apologise Really Really disappointed as with reviews on here we were so looking forward to the wee trip. So much so we decided to leave for home upset and annoyed I am happy to answer any questions you may have and I have attached some photographs to back my comments up.
Staff very friendly food very good at reasonable prices
Family run with service ethic. Tastefully decor. Good restaurant. Good base for visiting this area.
Not much wrong. Free parking 1800 a 0800'
The price the room was damp peeling wallpaper missing tiles in the bedroom poor breakfast
bedroom not as advertised ie no kingsize bed
Convenience for purpose of visit
Thought cost was a bit over the top.
Friendly and nice atmosphere, nice rooms and a great restaurant. Excellent location if visiting Cheddar Gorge. Can highly recommend.
Great comfortable room Fantastic breakfast Friendly staff
Hotel staff were friendly and attentive, and we had a fantastic breakfast. Clean, decent size room with small en suite but shower is lovely! Great location if you are visiting Cheddar and the surrounding area.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and it's suprisingly noisy outside at night and in the morning. Bathroom was very small but very clean and shower is huge.
Really friendly, helpful staff Great breakfast Good location; very convenient for Gorge Free parking (although a few minutes walk away)
Noise from the Square at 07:30 due to some road maintenance machines but sure this was a one-off.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food (including breakfast) was great. The location in the square and easy free parking meant easy to find
Hourly clock tower chimes through the night. Saying that I only heard a couple before I fell asleep and my husband didn't hear a thing. Could be annoying if light sleeper
Nice location in a quiet little town. The barman, who seemed to be the only person there at the time was pleasant and reasonably helpful. Meals were good.
No lift, but this is hard in an old building.
The staff were friendly as we arrived and very welcoming and accommodating. The Oak House rooms can be accessed through the bar or through a separate entrance which has plenty of ideas of things to do locally. We were immediately upgraded to a deluxe room which was large, clean had really nice wooden beams and an impressive freestanding bath in front of the window overlooking the square. The room was well equipped with a huge bed, well furnished with sofa and TV and even offered bath robes. We visited cheddar gorge which was about 10 minutes drive away. The medieval square has plenty to offer with a coop, pharmacy and a choice of pubs. Breakfast was included in our booking price and certainly was worth having. Family had stayed before and recommended the hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again if we return to the area.
Cute little twin room, comfy beds, nice warm shower, just what we needed.
They took the time to let us know about the village fete that would be going on the night we were staying in case we wanted to change accomodation.
We really enjoyed some of the room additions thought through careflly by staff. A lovely selction of teas of which we took full advantage, fresh milk brought to your room - a god send, lovely ground coffee with really nice biscuits too. Staff were very helpful.
We originally booked for the evening meal as the restaurant has good write ups. We were disappointed to find it closed Monday and Tuesday. Better signage on the home page for this would not have changed our decision to stay but helped with meeting expectations. Staff were very helpful with where to eat in the village. Delivery vans early morning right outside the window. We always sleep with the windows open! Probably our fault.

Lovely staff! Great breakfast!
My boyfriend was a bit too tall for the bed but then that's probably his fault!
Room was comfortable and clean.Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast both continental and full English very nice, dinning room pleasent. We had a very nice trip into Wells and I recommed a visit to the Cathedral and the Bishop's residence. The Cheddar Gorge is very impressive.
Parking in the square was restricted to a short stay fine for unloading but it was a walk from the local car park. Website failed to say the restaurant was closed Monday and TUESDAY! This was disappointing when you book The Oak House Restaurant with rooms! The Lamb Pub over the road provided good 'Pub' food. It wasn't what we had looked forward to. King John's hunting lodge was also closed. It was August 11th/12th not winter!
