Fabulous,

“ Well placed for Bristol Airport, with easy parking very close. A friendly welcome, pleasant room, very quiet. Good breakfast at a reasonable price. Nice pub opposite if you don't want to eat in the hotel in the evening. ”

The Oak House Restaurant with Rooms is situated in the medieval town of Axbridge, at the foot of the Mendip Hills and looking out over the natural beauty of the Somerset Levels. Cheddar Gorge is only a 5-minute drive away and is the largest in the UK. Free Wi-Fi, a TV with DVD player and tea/coffee making facilities are included in all of The Oak House's rooms. Parts of the hotel date back to the 11th century and original features include an ancient well and a large inglenook fireplace. Locally sourced produce, including strawberries and cheese from Cheddar are used to create the modern British dishes served in the restaurant. Axbridge town square is surrounded by narrow medieval streets, elegant town houses and a Georgian Town Hall. Bristol International Airport and seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare are just a 25-minute drive from the hotel. Good location near to Cheddar. Lovely reservoir that you can walk all the way around. Rooms a little basic. Especially after staying in a same rated hotel the previous evening.

Very comfortable room with good quality bed linen and more than adequate facilities. unfortunately we had an early flight the next morning but were kept awake by the town clock chiming every quarter and a lot of noise from people coming and going on the square outside. We had a really bad nights sleep.

Amazing location in historic town. Very close to Cheddar Gorge which was really lovely. Staff (especially young guy in morning who gave us tips about restaurants in Bath) very friendly. Meals were fairly expensive so we took the advise of other travellers on Booking.com and eat at the pub across the road. Room very warm and no top sheet on bed. Duvet was too hot so had to take inner out of cover and sleep under cover only. Eventually found light blankets in cupboard. Upper sheet would be more comfortable but doesn't seem the norm in many places in England.

Noise. Groups of men (presume resturant guests) drinking and smoking directly below our bedroom window. Very noisy, shouting and conversing which mean we couldn't relax and enjoy the evening. I felt the superior room although very large wasn't finished to a high standard. I appreciate it an old building but there were things like poor joins in the carpet and gaps in the wall around the plug sockets and the fire place in the bedroom borded up and covered with wood chip wall paper, not very high quality. Also lack if finishing touches, no tissues or water in the room. Bath in bedroom was nice but the plug gurgled and bubbled up when other peoples water was draining away.

Staff excellent. At arrival and leaving the girls were very welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful. Bed. Was much to soft , we prefer firmer mattresses. I considered sleeping on the couch.

Rooms were of a comfortable size and had a closet space. The staff were very nice and very helpful. There was a Cooperative quite near and parking not too far away. Room was a bit warm but understandable as they were having some radiator issues. Could have used more table lamps by beds. Shower spray got outside the tub area.

They had tried hard with the décor and the bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was rather overpriced especially as it was an added extra. Our radiator would not switch off so had a very uncomfortable night especially as the post office van arrived at 5.45 to unload outside our window which was wide open. On arrival there was no soap and the door wouldn't lock. The TV was faulty and had to be replaced but even then there was a lot of break up, making viewing impossible

This B & B is lovely. The staff and food make this place shine. The design/decor is tasteful and compliments the age and style of the building. The restaurant food is complex, tasty and although portions sizes are small, because of the richness in the food it is sure to fill you up! The wine list is very reasonable and there is a good selection of wines to choose from. We would defiantly stay here again and recommend it to our friends. There is a village church next door and the bells go off very hour to tell you the time, through the night also. The staff offered to move our room to a quieter one as there was one available which was lovely. No parking, you are allowed to stay for 1 hour outside the hotel then you have to park it at a near by car park which is free.

The welcome and atmosphere was lovely. All of the staff were so friendly and the quality of the food absolutely brilliant. The room was not very big but we only booked a standard room, so no real surprise.
