Convenience for purpose of visit
Thought cost was a bit over the top.
Friendly and nice atmosphere, nice rooms and a great restaurant. Excellent location if visiting Cheddar Gorge. Can highly recommend.
Great comfortable room Fantastic breakfast Friendly staff
Hotel staff were friendly and attentive, and we had a fantastic breakfast. Clean, decent size room with small en suite but shower is lovely! Great location if you are visiting Cheddar and the surrounding area.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and it's suprisingly noisy outside at night and in the morning. Bathroom was very small but very clean and shower is huge.
Really friendly, helpful staff Great breakfast Good location; very convenient for Gorge Free parking (although a few minutes walk away)
Noise from the Square at 07:30 due to some road maintenance machines but sure this was a one-off.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food (including breakfast) was great. The location in the square and easy free parking meant easy to find
Hourly clock tower chimes through the night. Saying that I only heard a couple before I fell asleep and my husband didn't hear a thing. Could be annoying if light sleeper
Nice location in a quiet little town. The barman, who seemed to be the only person there at the time was pleasant and reasonably helpful. Meals were good.
No lift, but this is hard in an old building.
The staff were friendly as we arrived and very welcoming and accommodating. The Oak House rooms can be accessed through the bar or through a separate entrance which has plenty of ideas of things to do locally. We were immediately upgraded to a deluxe room which was large, clean had really nice wooden beams and an impressive freestanding bath in front of the window overlooking the square. The room was well equipped with a huge bed, well furnished with sofa and TV and even offered bath robes. We visited cheddar gorge which was about 10 minutes drive away. The medieval square has plenty to offer with a coop, pharmacy and a choice of pubs. Breakfast was included in our booking price and certainly was worth having. Family had stayed before and recommended the hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again if we return to the area.
Cute little twin room, comfy beds, nice warm shower, just what we needed.
They took the time to let us know about the village fete that would be going on the night we were staying in case we wanted to change accomodation.
We really enjoyed some of the room additions thought through careflly by staff. A lovely selction of teas of which we took full advantage, fresh milk brought to your room - a god send, lovely ground coffee with really nice biscuits too. Staff were very helpful.
We originally booked for the evening meal as the restaurant has good write ups. We were disappointed to find it closed Monday and Tuesday. Better signage on the home page for this would not have changed our decision to stay but helped with meeting expectations. Staff were very helpful with where to eat in the village. Delivery vans early morning right outside the window. We always sleep with the windows open! Probably our fault.

Lovely staff! Great breakfast!
My boyfriend was a bit too tall for the bed but then that's probably his fault!
Room was comfortable and clean.Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast both continental and full English very nice, dinning room pleasent. We had a very nice trip into Wells and I recommed a visit to the Cathedral and the Bishop's residence. The Cheddar Gorge is very impressive.
Parking in the square was restricted to a short stay fine for unloading but it was a walk from the local car park. Website failed to say the restaurant was closed Monday and TUESDAY! This was disappointing when you book The Oak House Restaurant with rooms! The Lamb Pub over the road provided good 'Pub' food. It wasn't what we had looked forward to. King John's hunting lodge was also closed. It was August 11th/12th not winter!
- Staff were friendly - Breakfast selection was fantastic, filling and liked the small things such as a selection of papers to read - Bed was really comfortable and I had a great nights sleep - Shower was also nice
- Cleanliness was a small issue, we opened the kettle in our room to find it must had been filled with milk at some point. It had been there a few days at least, so I hope the previous occupants were okay. - Although food from the bar in the evening was delicious, it was quite expensive for what it was and not very substantial at all - WiFi was absolutely shocking. I don't think I or anyone else staying that evening could connect even once. - On checkout I was charged more than the price shown here on booking.com
- Pies are lovely, fish is flaky with crisp batter and the triple fried chips are excellent. - Ideal location for walking to Cheddar or just visiting the many sites around. - Staff are very helpful and friendly.
- Can be a little noisy depending on what’s happening in the main courtyard. - Very friendly area but you do get the odd boy racers revving their old bangers.
Dinner was excellent Room position overlooking square with double aspect windows
Unfinished tiling in bathroom breakfast room very dark, not sure what was "rustic" about the breakfast choice
Bed Room was very tidy and comfortable, Bath room was also good and comfortable.
When ask for dinner the blunt answer " we are fully booked ,sorry we can't serve you. There was no room service at all.
Axbridge is a small village with a lovely square - the Oak House is on this square Casual al fresco dining possible on warm summer evenings Quality of food is excellent
We arrived on a hot summer evening - room was very warm and difficult to cool down so our night was not as comfortable as it would otherwise have been.
Staying in the medieval square in Axbridge. Lovely location. Enjoyed re-enactment of 1WW by locals in Square on Saturday 19 July. Nice pub and superb food in Oak House. Enjoyed visiting Wookey Hole and Weston super Mare.
Purpose of visit was to take in Cheddar Gorge. This was very disappointing and very expensive.
The location on the town square
The food in the restaurant was average, but costly
Continental breakfast buffet was adequate but my request for bacon and egg was received most generously!
Room with bath and view of town square - size of room fantastic Scott and Adam marvellous hosts Chef/s provided scrumptious food My angostura bitters, orange bitters and red bitters - refreshing drinks Locality - a historic village/township Marvellous Main Street with all buildings joined, painted in various shades and one foot off the road Proximity to Cheddar Gorge Able to access medical treatment at local surgery
TV remote taken home by previous occupants of room!!? Why?? Who knows???
Clean modern large room. Very comfy bed. Tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk and bottled water. Lots of lovely towels and even bath robes. Delicious breakfast and friendly helpful staff. All set on a pretty square.Free parking within a short walk, though you can unload luggage virtually outside.
