The Oakland Hotel

Friendly Hotel which is part of a pub, and near the shopping centre,

Car Parking could be a problem, but Staff did give advice on were to park,

I expected a fairly standard 2 star double room and was overjoyed to find a lovely four poster and whirlpool bath, in a spacious unusual shaped room with sofa, flat screen tv tea and coffee making facilities, a hair dryer, liquid soao and bubble bath and enough lovely clean towels. Breakfast was lovely and the on site Chinese restauraunt gave us 10% off being as we were staying in the hotel (great quality of food and service in there too.) we had a very pleasent nights stay which helped as we were searching for poroperty in the general area.

We couldnt get the free wifi working in our room but it was late at night and we decided not to disturb the staff to sort the problem (though I'm sure they would have done.

Ideal for what we wanted. Would stay there again.

the central location close to family

The breakfast times were very limited unlike other hotels. The decor was very old and shabby. The bed was very small and uncomfortable.

Room was quite basic but clean and comfortable.

Felt quite intimadated by the clientele in the evening when returning from our evening at a wedding. Should be another entrance for staying guests.

It was in centre of town ans very good for local amenities

The entertainment wS excellent followed by a disco. The location is good for visiting family and the breakfast was lovely. A very comfortable clean hotel.

Very clean bathroom, tea making facilities (+biscuits!) reasonable cooked breakfast plus choice of cereals & toast.

On arrival was a bit concerned about having to sign a form stating that there was live music downstairs in the evenings until possibly 2am the following morning. Although we were not affected by the noise as we were at the back of the hotel. Cannot recall seeing noise aspect being mentioned on the hotel web site.

Location was good, Room was adequate, breakfast was reasonable

The Music in the bar was loud and went on till 3am. Would not go back or recommend it to friends unless there was nowhere else to go in that area.

The location was good and the hotel is easy to find.

The hotel is very dated, has no lifts and the shower was barely a trickle, not good when a family are trying to share a room and get ready.

The hotel is under new management who are doing their best to raise the standard.

However more could be done regarding the breakfast offered especially if you dont want a cooked breakfast. Service was quick and they serve the breakfast in the bar which must have been cleaned and turned around very early in the morning. I had a disability which I did not mention but it would have been nice if the receptionist had noticed this and moved me to a room on a lower floor but I guess tht was my fault for not mentioning it. Parking is also a problem.
