Location was excellent and very homely,a lovely place to stay and the food was fantastic, and staff are. Very welcoming
Beds were way too soft for me
- first impression: nice looking property - efficient and friendly staff - simple but excellent food - clean bathroom with a good shower
- the road was rather noisy - polyester duvet, mattress topper and pillows.
Friendly attentive staff. Freshly cooked breakfast with good quality ingredients. Good location whether arriving by car or train. Parking available.
The decorations, wall paper and soft furnishings were very good but the room let down by very shabby furniture. The corridor to the rooms desperately needs a makeover.
Great staff very helpful good food made to feel very welcome upon arrival and our whole stop
Having to come home
We stayed in room 6 for one, Thursday, night. Very comfortable, clean and quiet room. The evening meal was excellent and staff very knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was also excellent and the environment very relaxing. We had a short walk to the village and returned to a lovely drink on the veranda.
Having to leave.

The location and the fresh bedroom. A good breakfast helped setup the new day.
Everything!! It was a pleasure to eat here, the chefs clearly love the produce available in the north west, I will return again, the staff were lovely and helpful and this is a brilliant base to travel the lakes from
I booked superior rooms for us and they were very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel is in an excellent position for touring the lakes, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants near by.
This is an excellent hotel. Breakfast is superb. Staff lovely
The food was superb and the staff very friendly. The location is excellent and really nice place.
The shower it was not easy to use and quite small.
Comfortable accomadation ,clean and tidy!
Breakfast could have been a bit later ! Till 10.00am , front rooms overlooking the road and pub perhaps needed some net curtains or something similar as had to keep closing blind when getting changed !
The room was spacious and clean the staff were friendly and informative the food in the restaurant is incredible
Very pleasant overall in a nice location
Breakfast was excellent. Warm and friendly hosts
the staff were excellent and the food served first class
the decor overall and the toilets in public areas could do with updating for us the bed in the room was to soft.
Greeted with a warm friendly welcome , staff extremely helpful . Room was immaculate and full of character , the food well... EXCEPTIONAL !!!!! :-)
The staff, the room cleanliness, the breakfast, the location.
The shower was small and the pressure was weak
Location was great - a few minutes walk to the station. The refitted bathrooms are excellent, bright and clean. The breakfast was much better than in some places we've stayed but they need to learn how to poach an egg!
I honestly don't know where the glowing reviews are coming from. This hotel needs a facelift. The whole place has a dated and worn feel. Room furniture is tired and well worn, there is no discernible reception area and the dining room was gloomy. The main problem comes in two forms - inadequate lighting and poor color choice. Gray/green is not a welcoming color scheme. In essence, this is a restaurant that happens to have some rooms. Our overall impression was that this is a place where the owners are 'tired' and it is reflected in how the place is maintained. We didn't try the restaurant and the person who met us at reception didn't invite us to try the bar or offer the menu as an enticement. Price wise there is no way the room we got justifies the price charged but then this is the middle of the holiday season and you can't blame the owners for trying to make money while demand is there. One thing they really must solve - the smell coming from the kitchen into the public areas is almost overpowering at meal times. Great if you're in a cafe, not in a hotel/guest house. Sadly, there is nothing about Lamplighter that says 'stay here' and that's a shame given its excellent location. Altogether it was very disappointing.
No soundproofing in room and traffic sound too loud.
The evening meal was 1st rate
