The Oakthorpe Hotel and Lamplighter Bar features a traditional restaurant, serving real ales and Lakeland specialties. In the heart of beautiful Windermere, the elegant rooms are large and airy. Each of the spacious rooms is classically decorated with floral prints and ornamental pillows. Most rooms have private bathrooms, and some rooms have a charming four-poster bed. All rooms have a TV and tea and coffee facilities. The popular Lamplighter Bar and Restaurant serves a creative British menu, using local and seasonal produce. Fresh fish is delivered daily, and the bar offers a range of guest ales. The Lamplighter also hosts regular folk, jazz and blues nights. Built from Lakeland Stone, the Victorian Oakthorpe Hotel features a relaxing guest lounge with ample seating. There is also a large parking lot, providing free private parking for guests. The building has maintained its original features, including grand fireplaces and large sash windows. The Oakthorpe and Lamplighter is just a 2-minute walk from Windermere Train Station and bus stop. Tthe hotel staff & the food were fantastic & the bed was comfy. This hotel is somewhere we will never stay in again. the decor was old and could do with a revamp. the electrics in our room were dodgy. there was a lock on the door that didnt work. the bathroom was worn & old with no shower. the carpet had an iron burn on it. the paintwork was peeling. we dont want to sound negative about our experience at this hotel but it definately isnt worth £90 per night.

Nice, spacious hotel, comfortable room, very good breakfast, shame about the weather though. Excellent location & near to the station Absence of toilet in room but shower facility was good, opt for ensuite facilities in future but this might exceed my budget.Also waiting quite a long time for breakfast, a tick chart of breakfast choice would have been better.

Hotel is well-situated in the center of Windermere. Lamplighter bar on the ground floor is excellent! I had a pot of mussels and a pint of cider - they were very good. Breakfast was also good. Our room was big and the bed was comfortable. There was no toilet in our room! Toilet was on the floor, just round the corner. But it was not wriiten about it on the booking page! That's cheating!

We liked every thing the food the staff accomaditon the location I would be going back again I would say if anybody wants a good place to stay in windermera then pack your bags and head off to l oakthorpe and lamplighters bar you will not be dissapointed well worth the money

The location was good, close to great shopping and general lakes experience The staff were ok but don't go out of their way to help you. Nice enough but slightly missing something.

This was the second time that my mum and I had stayed at the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to help. The food was very good and we really enjoyed the breakfast. I would recommend the hotel to anyone and we will stay there again in the future. We had a lovely time, many thanks to all.

The facilities are so old. The room is dirty. The wardrobe sometimes has some noise once we walk through it. And I even found two spiders in the bathroom. It's a scary memory! I choose there just because of the good location. Except this condition, nothing is good! I will never live there anymore!

Staff where very happy and frendly , they actualy looked like they wanted to be their, the entrance was more like a good quality hotel , the room was warm all the time, The shower in the room was I little odd looking and outdated maybe just remove it alltogether , dont like shared bathrooms and this wasnt mentioned on the booking site , only after we made the booking ,and then it couldnt be cancelled , I wouldnt have booked the room if I had known , but to be fair the staff and clenleness made up for it ,

Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. We didnt eat there but it was very busy and the menu looked very nice. Breakfast was made to order with lots of choice and was delicious. Beds and Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were a bit tired and in need of modernising.

We enjoyed our overnight stay and we enjoyed a large cooked breakfast.The location was excllent and the surrounding areas were just beautiful.Our room was nice and warm when we arrived at the hotel and we got a carpark in the hotel forecourt, (not far to walk).The staff were very informitive and polite. No shower, only rubber hose connecting to the taps, otherwise all was good.

The only thing is it was in the centre of the town. The hotel is very dated not value for money. There was a hole in the wall,paint chipped everywhere,u could here the traffic all the time windows only single glaze. There was lots of noise in the hotel.

Staff were very friendly and helpful; breakfast was good; room was clean The bed was not the most comfortable (two beds put together to make one big one); the room was freezing on arrival as the heating in the room had not been turned up.

The owner, James, was very friendly and attentive when required. Check out time was flexilbe, felt very comfortable there. No sugar or milk in room for tea/coffee facilities - Minor gripe, but I like my hot drinks!

The staff were lovely and even left us a wedding card as we were on honeymoon. the breakfast was delicious! Also, it was a great location nestled in the centre of Windermere. The room was cramped and the bathroom was tiny. The room looked a bit shabby like it needed a bit of TLC.

It was a beautiful building and the breakfast was delicious. Staff were very friendly and the location was perfect. There was no shower in the bedroom and the heating was on overnight making it quite uncomfortable to sleep.

Myself and my husband had a fantastic time at the oakthorpe and lamplighter, from the minute we arrived we were welcomed to a very friendly place, the bar man was very chatty as was the manager, they were telling us all about their refurbishment plans.eals were delicious, nothing was too much trouble and we will definitely be back next year, Windermere is fabulous and bowness for shopping was brilliant, boat trip to Ambleside was good though shops were all outdoor mountain shops an very little else, would definitely reccommend the oakthorpe to everyone, thanks for a fab stay :)

It was near to the area we wanted to stay in at an affordable price. Old bath, no shower. Fire exit for the hotel was via our room for the use of other guests. Electrics I.E. hairdryer, room heater did not work, very doggy wiring on plug. Central heating not working properly first night. Small car park not easy to get parking space
