Brilliant building, great room with 4 poster - so spacious. Decent breakfast. Heater supplied without us having to ask. Nice bar area. Bags of parking space. There was a party for 80 when we were there but we hardly noticed - all smoothly organised and finished promptly.
Tiny things - beer was not right but barman felt it was ok after only smelling it! No lock on ensuite bathroom door and 1 slightly shabby towel. A couple of blown bulbs and dead batteries in remote. This is rather picky though!!
The ambience incl. the Lincoln Imp. Food was very good. Was up in a top room (note:no elevator), warm, spacious, fireplace, gothic windows.
Not being able to stay a second nite.
Character - made a change from a Premier Inn. Nice location -slightly off the beaten track, but close enough to access main roads.
When I arrived there was no heating except for portable heaters. Also meant no hot water for bath. When radiator did work, it was not large enough to make the bedroom and bathroom warm. Staff did not appear concerned about the lack of heating.
Hotel is beautiful and in a really lovely, well-maintained state, especially given the age of the building. Room was really nice & tasteful. Staff were very friendly and helpful and although they weren't prepared for us at breakfast they quickly responded and saw to us, with apologies.
No toilet brush in bathroom or big enough mirror in bedroom! Pillows were a little hard. Kettle cord was quite short so hard to reach plug while standing it on a safe surface. Also, I dropped an earring & whilst looking for it found a couple of used contact lenses between the bed & bedside table which suggested furniture wasn't moved to clean :/
Staff are helpful and friendly
No carpet to lower hallway. No change to evening menu and no choice for a none meat eater.
The fabulous gothic building, the fantastic food and the friendly service.
Great location Friendly bar staff Beautiful rooms TV celeb' stayed over during my visit
Whats not to like?
The location was good as we were going to a funeral at menston. Parking was good
The food was awful I'm afraid. The breakfast tasted deep fried and horrible The smoked salmon smelt off. The vegetables were over cooked and watery. The crab had a very strong smell. The sausages tasted sour. We worried about getting food poisoning ! Our double room was small and dingy and the bed was hard and narrow. The TV kept turning itself off the waitress at breakfast was short tempered and unwelcoming.
Slightly quirky hotel, but a good choice if you have a dog. Food was excellent and staff eager to please and good-humoured. Our room was close to an entrance door to the very pretty and well kept back garden, and we were encouraged to let the dog play there.
The Restaurent was excellent as we're the staff. Position was ideal for us.
We have stayed at Oakwood Hall In the past and used it's dinning facilities. We booked a last minute 2 day stay at a cheaper rate. We were really disappointed with the room and corridor leading to it. No carpet in corridor. Room was in Ex Stable Block - dark, damp feel, old fashioned, cold ( even though rest of Hotel was fine & only early September)
Had a blocked shower - which was quickly fixed. Good food at affordable prices.
Lovely old building
Bit pricey, staff slow to fix problems
The staff really looked after us and our breakfast was 10/10.
On arrival we were met with a stale damp smell in the lobby! When we entered our room they had cleaned the room the best it could be cleaned. However it needed serious modernisation so was always going to look grubby. being 6'2" it's rare a bed is long enough but even the person I shared the twin room with a room with is 5'8" and his feet were pressed against the end of his single bed!
The building has character and the staff are friendly. Like the building they too all character and they are all very different. They don't all present an identikit corporate face as you would get in a big chain hotel. Real people who love their job and care about their customers. The hotel claims free wifi in all rooms. My room was at the end of the corridor and in many hotels when I end up in such a room the wifi is non-existent. Therefore I didn't hold out much hope but I needn't have worried. Full strength and rock solid reliable. The first night I had a three course dinner (a friend joined me) and we had a wonderful meal. My choice was rare steak and full marks to the chef because it came just as I like it. Every part of the meal was delicious. Second night I just had a bar meal and I was tempted by Bangers and Mash. Not quite the fine dining of the first night but this was amongst the best bangers and mash I have ever tasted. Quality.
The one complaint was that there was a mix up with the wine with the dinner. It wasn't served when it should have been, basically the order hadn't been communicated. Then when it was brought the wine hadn't been pre-chilled so we had to wait with it in an ice bucket for quite some time before it was remotely cold enough to drink. The staff apologized for the error as this was the only problem we had. Now I know you are thinking "who is this man - white wine with steak?". As my friend was having fish one of us had to give way to the other - the choice of wine by the glass was limited.
Comfortable bed, clean room
Too focused on the wedding the next day, staff rude at breakfast No coffee in room, just decaf sticks
Location and historic building with nice and well-kept garden.
Breakfast service. Arriving late resulted in being in a dining room with many used taboes with dirty cutlery, plates, cups etc. Staff seemed to have 'forgotten' about us which resulted in a long wait.
Staff are excellent. Very friendly and helpful
big room four poster, too big for 1 but very comfortable, staff all very polite, good choice on menu for supper & breakfast, will stay again.
nothing to dislike
Large comfortable twin room also had a sofa to relax on. Lovely old building. Breakfast was very tasty with friendly service.
It would have been helpful to be given the wifi password without having to ask for it.
Nice location, comfortable hotel. Staff very helpful and polite. Food was good quality and value for money.
We stayed for two nights and on the second night there was a wedding reception in the main restaurant. Our evening meal was served in the breakfast room which was not as pleasant and did not have any windows. It was hot weather and it felt quite stuffy. The staff seemed to be a little stressed with the workload of the wedding party. However the food quality remained high standard and it did not diminish our weekend enjoyment. We were upgraded to none standard room on arrival which was nice. Would stay there again no problem.
In need of an update
Lovely tasteful retreat
THE STAFF COULD NOT DO ENOUGH TO MAKE OUR STAY ANY BETTER fantastic STAFF!!!!!
the building being quiet soom soze
