It's fair to say that the fascia of this building is lovely. It displays a level of heritage that would under general circumstances fill you with history and atmosphere befitting a building of its age. The staff in the breakfast room were happy, smiling and clearly welcoming. The access to the car park was good and bar area, though not used, seemed suitable. Clearly a venue for weddings, at least a venue for the party after the service.
I'm sorry to say that impressions inside were that of a motorway travel lodge. A feeling of office meetings, name badge seminars and motivational speaking sessions was to be fair the overriding view. Corridors shut of to guests during meetings due to 'confidential meetings'.. Seriously, it's not MI5 and anywhere that wishes to be considered as a meeting venue needs to not mix its personality up in the design of the building. Weekend weddings with music until 12.30am!! Is not really good when it isn't clearly stated prior to booking, on checking in and certainly not to be told with a curt voice by reception staff. For those who have seen Alan partridge, his time living in the Travel Lodge will make some sense.
Helpful, friendly staff. Overall ambience. Good breakfast. Clean room. Lovely shower.
Mattress springs dug into me and woke me up. Only one chair in a room for two.
catered for gluten free bread
Comfortable bed and rooms Great breakfast Friendly staff
The breakfast, the shower. The wedding was well organised and executed.
The heat in the rooms with windows that only opened a crack. The décor and carpets were tired and stained in both the bedrooms and public areas.
Staff were fab.
Small room for 3 people. Room no 1 next to function room where a disco was on. Also shower flooded which I reported to reception.
Close to town, easy walking distance. Quiet
Upon arrival took the staff a little time to great us even though they were sat at the desk. Dirty cups left in hallway all the time we were there. Dirty tissues left on window in room. Very poor water pressure in the shower. Booked the room with spa bath - no instructions left for it and could not get it working. Spoke to night porter who could not help and suggested 'we fiddle around with it a bit'. We didn't stay for dinner in the restaurant as the menu was on a dirty A4 sheet of paper, food was being served in the bar and menu very unappetizing and limited choice. When arrived for breakfast no greeting from staff so we had to ask where to sit and how breakfast was served. Food was poor. Fruit was brown and the cooked breakfast unappealing. In all not a great stay.
First night we were above a wedding party that didn't finish till after midnight . Couldn't sleep until well into the morning they were very loud. Staff did move us following day as there was another wedding.
The Venue was lovely, spacious beautifully laid Tables. The Staff were brilliant helpful very welcoming and friendly. The Manager in charge of the evening was so professional, a credit to the Hotel. Wonderful Service. Guest Rooms clean.
The only negative which is a shame, was the breakfast it looked as if it had been sitting drying out for hours. Would have been better cooked to order when so few guests in the hotel.
Very handy location and good value for money. A gem of a place to stay for visiting anywhere in the south east.
Issues could be sorted more quickly.
Very Happy great value for money
Staff on reception were friendly and helpful as were the other staff, beautiful location.
Oak wood House was not clearly signposted from the entrance and Breakfast choice was limited. The cooked breakfast was swimming in grease and left on hot plates, not very appetising!
Layout of the hotel Breakfast
Size of room and bed was good
Was given wrong room at first, apparently an admin error! Room was rather unclean, was a large cobweb in bathroom with a scary spider which was there every time we came back after room was clean! Location and getting to the rooms was a struggle would not recommend it for a leisure stay.
The booking.com reservation was not received by the hotel. Consequently we were very lucky that the hotel still had rooms available on arrival.
Shower outlet partially blocked, flooding bathroom. Staff pleasant, but seemed very inexperienced. Access from outside only through main entrance - rather inconvenient. Other hotels allow keycard access through other entrances.
Character property Bright bar area Quiet at night Good parking
Room 19 had broken toilet seat, shower flooded, beds was made up using ripped pillow- cases and sheet. Room was cramped and wardrobe impractical. Old milk and sugar found in drawer. My daughter discovered a bag of dirty socks in the wardrobe. Food was disappointing. This place has great potential but is badly run. We will not stay there again or recommend it to others.
bedroom and bathroom were clean. Bed was comfortable and no issues with level of heating and ventilation. Shower performance was good. Breakfast was good.
Wifi was very poor in my room although acceptable in reception rooms and bar. Door to bedroom (21) rattled when people opened corridor door. Dinner service finished earlier than suggested on posters for bar/restaurant and therefore i had to go out to eat.
I was so lucky as my single room wss upgraded to royal presidential suite, which gave me a fantastic experience.
Away from train station
Food has improved since last visit - new chef. Breakfast very good.
Huge bed. Nice being able to grab a drink from the bar and sit in the gardens
No bath or hairdryer in the room
comfortable bed. windows would open
difficult to get hot water from the shower difficult to find the entrance to the hotel as the hotel board was not very easy to see, especially in the dark, as I was unfamiliar with area.
Comfortable room and availability of wifi. Plenty of parking.
Location of room was out of the way. We were told by reception staff to go through an area which was actually Council office space. In the morning the access back out through the office area was locked even though it was a fire door. If there was a fire we would have been trapped to our knowledge. Only after this incident were we shown the proper access, which was through the dining room. Totally weird!
Helpful staff, breakfast was great you had such a large choice. Room was very clean.
Location of the room (having to walk passed offices), very small rooms (not as discribed) and in the heat made it feel claustaphobic, did not have items as expected in the room, very very nosy guest staying and no one did anything about it. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable.
