Staff were brilliant. Helpful, attentive and efficient. Room decor and fittings all seemed very new and clean. Bathroom also seemed newly fitted, could have done with a shelf to store things on a bit lower down. Beautiful old house and grounds with new extension very sympathetically built to marry into the older house seamlessly. Menu limited and food not very edible and served warm rather than hot. Room and bed very small for price quoted. No pillow choice - ours were hard. Only whole milk in room - no choice given. Wedding and surprise party at hotel when we arrived which meant a delay in getting a meal. Weddings and seminars seem to be their core business which they cater very well for, from what we saw. A shame, but don't feel this hotel is really geared for the individual traveller. Not too easy to find as in the middle of a University complex, which was a bit unusual.

In this hotel works a lady during the breakfast hours that gives you a feeling 'home away from home'. She is the credit to the Hotel. Thanks for great breakfastexperience!!! What is less positive about this hotel? The evening meal that is served is not what you may expected from this hotel. My advice to the chef; buy yourself a Jamie Oliver cookbook (at the moment on special at Sainsbury) and cook something not so boring and tasteless.

Price/quality relationship for proposed dinners in the evening was correct. The beds are excellent. After error by hotel staff with the booking we got for 2 days the presidential suite. The staff is friendly and the car parking is large This hotel is for 100% targeting party's, weddings and seminars and is absolutely not focussed on "regular travellers". A few examples : we stayed for 4 nights and every night there was a party going on which could be heard through half of the hotel. There was even one night a large fireworks for 10 minutes at 10.00 pm in the garden while we were already asleep ! While having dinner at night in the restaurant, one could dance on the disco music from the ball room which was next to the restaurant. Drunken party people started even a fight in the restaurant while we were having dinner ! An error was made in the room allocation (we booked 2 rooms for 4 people) although details were mentioned while booking on the internet (shower/bath). Standard rooms are very small and most have a connecting (but closed) door between 2 rooms which makes you hear really everything what happens in the other room. I woke up at 6 am when someone in the other room went to the bathroom. I could follow a full conversation in the other room, although these people were not speaking loudly. The bed in the presidential suite is excellent, but with every single movement you make, the bed "cracks" so intense and loudly that you can hardly sleep. The toilet in the standard room we had was extremely dirty and the warm water in the shower was not working. In the restaurant knifes and forks were not clean. On Sunday the normal restaurant was closed for breakfast; breakfast moved to a large reception room with only large round tables for 14 or 16 people; not very comfortable if you travel with only 4 people and have to sit in a "row" or have to join party people at the same table. No privacy at all in the latter case. Bookin.com lists this hotel as a 4 star; but at the entrance of the hotel is advertised 3 stars. Hence Booking.com should alter the qualification of this hotel on the internet and bring it in line with the reality. But normal tourists should avoid this hotel ...

Pleasant building in good surroundings. Clean room with excellent shower. Menu range was poor and service very slow. The place had an atmosphere of having disturbed a bunch of elderly lecturers. No point having a reasonable room if you can't eat well and the food was only average in the evening and the cooked breakfast was on the small size.

Very good value for money hotel, I was impressed. Beautiful modern, cosy and warm (it was freezing outside) bedroom with comfy bed. Very clean and luxurious bathroom with rain shower, amazing smelling toiletries and even scented toilet paper :-) Free good speed wi-fi and polite, smiling staff are always a plus. Food is a let-down. Even though dinner is very cheap at £5 a meal, I would be willing to pay more and have something tastier. Also, TV only shows 2 channels, freeview would be a brilliant improvement.

Rooms are clean and modern - very nice. Cooked breakfast is very good. Breakfast used to be mainly self service with staff service if hot breakfast required - now all by staff from Kitchen which is slow esp when all you want is toast. Bring back the self service toaster.

I booked Oakwood House based on its location and price. My expectations were moderate. As long as the room was clean and the food was edible I would have been happy; but it far exceeded my expectations. It looks like the place has recently been refurbished, the room was very comfortable (the shower nearly blasted me away) and the food was excellent. Oakwood House is located on a complex that includes a college and some other facilities but the address only gets you to the complex. I had to call reception to get directions to Oakwood House itself.

Modern appearance of rooms. Incredible shower! Self closing Doors to rooms closed very loudly. Was disrupting to sleep when late travellers would arrive on the same hallway.

The rooms were connected by internal doors so you could hear everything neighbour was doing at any given moment....not very good and they should isolate the internal doors.

Rooms were at the fa rend from reception and to get there you had to walk through a function room. This was being used by business users and I had to go through a conferennce to get to my room which I feel is not practicle. This needs to be looked at and a different entrance is required
