The location was good for the sea but 10 mins to the town center. This hotel is in it for the money only, customer satisfaction is not important. The parking is not free. For a double bedroom you must pay more although this is not communicated until you have paid. They hoovered the hall outside the bedrooms at 7:40am on Sunday morning ! The bedroom smelt of cooking. The window overlooked a neglected yard which was very unpleasent The breakfast was poor and service grumpy. The full price for the room was £112 which is incredibly bad value for money. Infact you do not get a discount you get the worst room the hotel can offer.

Staff very friendly and efficient, excellent breakfast. Thank you for making us feel welcome. We had a late booking so only had room that was available, which I think was a family room 1 single and 1 double. We would normally just have a double room so would have preferred more space to get in and out of the double bed which was against one wall. Thought the room was fairly plain, and perhaps a picture would help. The tv was very small. Surprised to have blankets and not a duvet - can't believe I said that. Facilities good and very acceptable. Very quiet room as asked for.

The location was great as opposite the seafront but not too close to the pier so great for avoiding noisy crowds. Staff were polite and friendly and the room quite comfortable all the view from the inward facing rooms is not great. The shower veered wildly from hot to cold, the breakfast was very small considering the price we paid to stay and we were not impressed that we were unable to access the free wifi advertised as staff could not remember the network password.

The Hotel is easy to find right opposite the seafront and just a few minutes walk from the pier, so no disturbances from the nightclubs. Parking is nearly right outside and only costs £2 with a ticket from reception or free if you want to walk for a few minutes. The staff were polite, friendly and business like, the room was fairly spacious with en suite bathroom, the mattress was soft (not to my liking but then I have never found a hotel with a mattress that I do like!!) the bed had sheets and blankets (hooray for the good old days) the room was clean and tidy and simply but smartly furnished. Breakfast was full English and served at the table (much better than buffet style I think), the Hotel had a bar which we did not try but it looked fine. Check out was quick and easy because you pay at the beginning so it's just a case of hand in your key and collect receipt. If you want to explore the South Coast then Eastbourne is excellent, much better than Brighton, much more cleaner, quieter and far better fish and chips (try Qualisea on the corner of Terminus Road and Seaside Road) Eastbourne is a nice location to go and walk around Beachy Head and Pevensey Bay, it has a nice shopping centre, the pier is a bit old and tired. Overall as long as you realise that this is only a 2 star hotel it is excellent value for money, I can't abide people that pay for a 2 star hotel and expect 5 star facilities, you get what you pay for and in our opinion the Oban Hotel exceeded our expectations. Please note none of this is a criticism just comments and in no way should put you off of staying here Bit of a small televsion and only 5 channels (but then who goes on holiday to watch tele?) Cor blimey I never knew Seagulls were so noisy at 5.30 am, but of course not the fault of the Hotel The Hotel information pack could do with an update i.e. breakfast times, and things to do. There were only towels, toilet paper and soap provided in the bathroom (but as I said previously it is only a 2 star Hotel) so take your own shampoo etc. Bit of a noisy lift, you definitely know when it is working and has landed! The floors are a bit creaky and you can hear fellow travellers if they are rude enough to loudly discuss what they have been doing that day. The ceiling was painted chocolate brown and with low energy bulbs (thanks green brigade!) it made the room a bit dingy looking. But I repeat these are not criticisms only observations and comments and in no way should put you off of staying here.

Very convenient for Devonshire Park (Aegon tennis and theatres) with a parade of shops at hand. As for the Hotel itself, it's more like a large B&B but with a bar/large lounge and pleasant dining room. The £2 per day 'visitors' parking permit was very useful (they should mention it on their website). Friendly & efficient staff. Twin bedded room a bit cramped but adequate.

The location is brilliant for the sea and shops. The staff are very friendly and obliging and although this time, we couldn't stay there the first night because of leaking on the property and the room not being ready for us, they arranged for us to stay somewhere else that night, then we were able to leave our luggage at the Oban on Saturday morning while we went out sightseeing, and were given a lovely room with a sea view for the remaining two nights. We have stayed there a few times now and every time we go to Eastbourne, we would not hesitate to go back there. The other hotel we stayed in was okay but not up to the standard of the Oban in our opinion! Well done all of you. I think the only thing we didn't like was the fact that the TV had very few channels. There were no Freeview ones at all but that was a minor detail really. A few more channels would be good though!

Going home The manager was a very or owner was a person who should not be in the job he has, he had no manners he would not even look at us he kept our receipts untill the day we left, he said it was because we might leave without putting the room keys in, as lf we as pensioneres would do such a thing, he is a really horrible person. I would rather sleep on the beech than stay at that place ever again.

Friendly staff. B&b style with addition of a bar. Did everything we wanted of it, but were just using it as a base so weren't very demanding. Parking a bit complicated and instruction incorrect - but that's not the hotel's fault, it's Eastbourne council.

Booked this stay in trepidation but relieved and really chuffed with overall exeperience. If you understand this is a very good 2 - 3 star hotel you wont go wrong. In fact we've been to worse 3 star hotels locally. Anyway we enjoyed the hotels hospitality and level of service. Rooms really clean with comfy beds. Good decor and beautiful sea view. Staff were so nice and nothing was too much for them. We'll be back to see their new bar and lounge area. We felt like we were sharing in their excitement. Again as said before all good, no problems and will be back. Not enough tv channels, but we werent here for that. Just a minor observation but understand switch over is in June 2012

Great little hotel with friendly staff who were always at hand. Period building with lovely features. Excellent spot on the seafront. Our room had a bay window with wide / tall windows it was lovely waking up to the sea view. Breakfast was tasty and service with a smile. It makes a world of difference. We'd certainly come back but maybe in the summer season. The town seemed a bit quiet. Shower room although very nicely done, was a bit small nevertheless all facilities were in working order which is what you want.

The hotel is in an excellent position very close to the theatres (under 5 min walk) The bedroom was fresh and clean and looked like it had been recently decorated ? new tv (I know this cause we bough the same set recently). Staff were very obliging and courteous. We met the proprietor who was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was lovely and hot with an endless supply of coffee. We enjoyed our stay and were pleased to have overlooked the other reviews which were not so good! For price and value I think you'll have to go far to beat.

Location is the best asset of this hotel. Right in front of the beach with the winter gardens and some good cafes and restos at the back street Really didn't like the huge dead moth on the wall which hadn't been wiped clean. That says it all really. Bed wasn't that comfortable and bedcovers looked very old and worn. Tv couldn't be any smaller. Location is great but if you can find another hotel in the area for same price or a bit extra go for it.

I would have had a better impression of the hotel if we'd been given a sea-facing room. I'm sure it was not fully booked but we still given a rear-facing room. The lounge and restaurant were quite attractive, the room had a nice bathroom. The person who checked us in did not speak English very well, the breakfast hours were too short (8 - 9.30), check-out time too early (10 am), bed too hard, tv tiny & incorrectly programmed, lift cramped with no door or warning signs.

The bed rooms were very clean. The bedrooms lacked character. The showers were made for midgets and the water temperature was very hard to control. It would of been nice to have toiletries in the bathroom. On arrival we asked about the restaurant and were told we could not use it. The public rooms were in darkness and the bar closed when we arrived back at 10pm. The breakfast staff were sullen and pounced on you as soon as you sat down on the first morning clearing away the cereals etc at 9am before we had a chance to take our cereals etc. We were very disappointed as we paid £90 for b/b and felt that the hotel took your money upfront and then didn't care about your comforts - this one will definitely not see us again

Staff were friendly and it was in an ideal position for Theatres and Beach, Our room was comfortable and clean as was the restaurant. Would have been good to have had some dried fruit and nuts to sprinkle on the cereals at breakfast.
