In the heart of Newport, on the Isle of Wight, this Grade II listed building is set in a wide, quiet street, just off the High Street.
Score from 172 reviews Very good
Quiet with friendly service
Good breakfast, very clean bathroom, able to eat in room, fresh milk in fridge, owner seemed nice.
Found mattress and pillows uncomfortable but I think perhaps I am spoilt! Linen was very clean though. Small TV and hence difficult to read sub-titles (am deaf as well as spoilt!).
the views were superb, ross was very helpful, breakfast superb.
the steep hills
Breakfast in my room.Nice warm welcoming room.
Made me feel very relaxed. Home away from home without the kids :-)
It is very hard not to like this place everything was perfect........... Really it was thank you so much Ross and Sarah.
The wet weather on the first night!!!!!!
The room was fine. Clean and modern.
Arrived to a note on the door which gave my room and key number saying they would be back later. I spent 2 hours freezing in my room despite knocking on the owners door twice. I went to a pub to keep warm. Returned and knocked again and nobody. Left the menu card out and then at he alloyed time the next day a man, presumably owner deposited a very megre breakfast on the table in my room and left again. It was a lonely, cold and depressing experience in which I was not welcomed or checked upon in anyway in a 18 hour period.
Lovely breakfast Friendly & welcoming Modern room
Watching a meteor shower from the comfort of our balcony and waking to the sun rise across the sea. Lovely room, wonderful breakfast, really relaxing stay - will definitely return!
View was fantastic Great breakfast good choice, hot and delivered punctually. Would come back again but only to Room 1 which is far superior to other rooms.
A little run down, steps full of leaves, broken furniture in garden. Grouting in shower a bit mouldy. No outside light on steps down to road. Not really within walking distance of town at night in the dark but okay in daytime. Needed to take a taxi down to town and back unless you want to eat in your room. Springs in mattress evident despite mattress topper.
The room was very comfortable and everything to hand that I might need. A letter was left to explain everything as the owner was not available. Although I felt cold the night before the owner was very apologetic the next day that the heating had gone off too early.
Evening meals have to be ordered the night before and this was not brought to my attention at the time of booking. As I cannot eat take-away I was hungry.
Sea View from covered balcony Brilliant breakfast served in room Quiet, comfortable & great facilities Everything as expected from very positive reviews
On street parking. Never a problem but always a little concern that space would not be there!
Loved being served breakfast in our room
Nothing to dislike
Quality fittings and view. Eating Food in room both b/fast and take-a-ways, whilst enjoying the view and having no trip home after!
Lack of connection with staff
The room was beautiful, comfortable, clean and well serviced. The view from the room and balcony was amazing! The breakfast was great, which we ate on our balcony - what more could you ask! Our hosts were absolutely charming. Our stay at Ocean View House was truly wonderful and we would definitely recommend it.
There was nothing at all to dislike about our stay at Ocean View House.
LOVED being served breakfast in our room. Very quiet and romantic- the hosts gave you all the information without being overbearing. We felt like we had our own private house for the weekend, absolutely amazing experience.
Friendly staff, wonderful hospitality; all the ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We loved it and hope to return soon
The best factor was how hard Ross and Sarah worked to make our stay a good one. Breakfast in the room with table by the window. On a windy night going to sleep listening to the waves crash into the shore. With eating facilities in the room, one a shoestring budget, the local Chinese and Indian restaurants deliver. The Chinese was excellent; did not try the Indian. There is a shared refrigerator for leftovers.I
In the Ocean View Hotel, room four does not have an ocean view. The local name for Ventnor is the "staircase", because the town is built into the side of a cliff; hence ocean views. It's an easy fifteen minute walk down into town. But if you are sporting a zimmer frame, the return journey will be interesting.
Could not have breakfast at 7.30am.
Lovely staff, it was a B&B without any constraints, so if we wanted to bring takeaways in, crockery and cutlery could be provided. There was a fridge if we needed to keep things cool, loved having breakfast in our room, all really relaxed.
nothing at all
Service was friendly, efficient, courteous and unobtrusive. Bathroom was of a very high standard, with lots of hanging space for clothes. Bed was comfortable and the pillows were varied in softness - a good and rare feature.
If I have to find anything wrong, it would be that there was not a very good reading light from the bed; but that really is scraping the barrel to find something wrong with such a delightful place!
Great room, good breakfast & friendly staff all made for an enjoyable stay! Would definitely stay there again & recommend to others.
Not a criticism, but if you're travelling by foot just be aware that the hotel is at the top of a fairly steep climb! This does give great views though!
Very clean room, nicely refurbished.Loved having breakfast in the room.We didn't have a sea view but they did look wonderful.Fresh milk provided in a fridge was a nice touch. Very good breakfast was provided.
No sea view, but we booked late.
