Lovely old building in the centre of the town. Bed was comfortable and wifi worked well.
Room in the 'coach-house' was a bit tired and the carpet had definitely seen better days. Breakfast rather hapzazard as kitchen and waiting staff were unable to cope with a rush of guests. Still waiting for the butter, milk, a spoon and black pudding!
Lovely hotel in a lovely location.
Service very friendly Relaxed (even dog friendly) Excellent bar, with their own brand of beer.
We went to the Old Bell Hotel for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. Our room was clean, attractive and comfortable . The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Room in coach Building Dirty and small
Charming building in an excellent location. The breakfast was exquisite and staff were attentive and polite.
The poor standard of cleanliness in our room. The carpet needed replacing or deep cleaning and I found a hair band with hair attached just by our bed. Yeuk! The drainage in the bath also needed attention as we were almost knee deep in water before we'd finished showering.
function rooms,cosy ,friendliness of staff.
threadbare carpets, being unsteady, due too back problem this was quite worrying
Location. Old world charm. The food was excellent.
The bed was not comfortable at all. The mattress was far too soft.
Restaurant staff good Food ok, it was hunt the crab in the crab linguine, dry and tasteless, all other meals were good
Facilities and cleanliness of the room, we were offered an upgrade but it was up two flights of stairs which was an N impossible feat for us with heavy luggage
The food was absolutely outstanding.
My ground floor room window opened out to the car park.
Breakfast and Dinner. The building and surroundings. The staff. I asked to be moved and they complied with a nicer room.
In need of maintenance and a refurb, leaking taps and worn furnishings were a turn off. The rooms in the newer part didn't deliver against expectation.
Charm of old part of hotel. Excellent service and food. Comfortable lounge areas.
Modest size of bedroom and narrow corridor in coach house.
Presentation of the hotel (olde worlde), dining rooms and lounges niceley decorated and furniture comfortable.
Being very picky, the bedroom could be updated with a lick of paint to the furniture and new bathroom fittings.
The spaciousness of our room and the attention to small details: varied and up-to-date magazines in one of the lounges. the fact that the desk manager accompanied us personally to our room and didn't simply sling the room keys across the counter like many hotels unfortunately do today. After dinner, we were allowed to take our coffee in one of the lounges rather than sit in the dining room. Breakfast was amazingly abundant and very tasty. We had a delightful young German waitress with the most engaging beam of a smile. All in all, a very pleasant experience.
While the service was impeccable, we felt that perhaps the time has come for a bit of face-lifting to the premises namely, replacing the carpets on the staircase and first floor which are now tired and frayed.
The food and service at both dinner and breakfast was very good
We deliberately booked a room in the main house through booking.com and yet we were booked in a room in the coach house on arrival. Thankfully this was promptly resolved by the duty manageress.
Location ideal. Good service from staff on the night. Room size and facilities good. Our room, had safe, fridge, coffee machine. Excellent hotel grounds and communal areas. I would stay here again, if in the area.
Breakfast service lacking, we had to ask for coffee and toast. We were a large wedding party eating breakfast, but no staff in the restaurant area most of the time. The room furniture was in need of some modernisation. Bathroom needed some updating. This is based on price of room compared to other hotels I have stayed in for the same price. £165 for bedroom, bathroom and living room.
Lounge and dining room areas; breakfast; food generally. The tea was very poor whether we had it in the dining room or the lounge..water not hot enough?
The sound effects coming from next door room. The whole conversation could be clearly heard even though we didn't want to hear. For a hotel of this price the rooms need to be upgraded. For instance we also stayed at a lovely comparative hotel in Tetbury for less than half the price for a much better and comfortable stay. It is no longer enough to be a characterful old hotel.
I love the wonderful historic atmosphere and it's setting in a beautiful country town. The lounge areas, restaurant and garden are all very attractive and the staff were helpful and friendly.
At the weekend the staff were overwhelmed at breakfast and service was unreliable and slow. We stayed in a standard room in the modern addition. It was small and did not have air conditioning. Although we were provided with a fan, the room was unbearably hot.
the building, and exploring all the wonderful sitting rooms, Breakfast was excellent
The hotel itself is lovely - but the coach house annex is not!
The rooms in the coach house were tiny, cramped, and hot. We were told by reception staff that we should have booked by phone, not online, if we wanted a good room. Interesting!
Hotel has immense character, lovely to be so close to abbey. Nice breakfast.
Couple arrived loudly in middle of night to room next to mine and it was as if we were all in the same room!
Beautiful location ,beautiful building .
Room was in need of a good clean and decorating ,bed to small bathroom in need of renovation
I loved the history of the building and the public spaces. Location was grand for I wanted to visit the Abbey, and the Abbey Gardens(which were excellent by the way) Also, Chris in the bar was attentive, created a fabulous rhubarb mojito, and we enjoyed speaking with him.
The hotel bedroom needs attention. Appeared tired. Needs repainting. The front desk staff were indifferent. Showing some interest in the guest would be an easy fix, and be more welcoming. I actually loved this place, but little things like polishing up the entrance would have everyone loving it.
Serving staff were polite and welcoming Location to town and Abbey excellent. Food was good and nicely presented Free car parking and convenient to Town
RECEPTION STAFF UNWELCOMING.NO SMILES.VERY DISTANT. BEDROOM SMALL WITH UNSTABLE HEADBOARD.FURNITURE DATED,BATHROOM CRAMPED AND NOT UP TO THE STANDARD OF 2014. BEDROOM AIRLESS ,WITH WINDOW OPEN INTERMITTENT NOISE FROM CAR PARK. NOT VALUE FOR MONEY
Great historical hotel with great service and great food. Lovely separate lounge rooms to get romantic after the evening meal. Would love to come back in winter in front of the fires
No air con - but it's a lovely old building and in the UK so no surprise
