Very good,
Score from 50 reviews
“Friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms, excellent restuarant for evening meal and breakfast was very tasty.”
Tracy,
Higham Ferrers
This lovely 19th century carriage house is set on the edge of Dartmoor, close to historic Tavistock and the Tamar Valley. The valley is of outstanding natural beauty, yet only 15 miles from Plymouth. The Coach House was built on a site, which was originally an Anglo Saxon settlement in 850 AD. It was built by The Duke of Bedford in 1857 to his own design as part of a model farm. It was sold in 1988 and converted to a 3-star hotel. The hotel regrets that it cannot accommodate children under the age of 5. Friendly and offered good service. Very good food at a reasonable price. If I had to choose something I would probably say parking space might be limited in peak season but that was really not an issue during our stay.

Very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was excellent and the room was lovely, with everything we needed. The room was a cold the first night, and on returning from Tavistock at 21:30 on the second night everything was locked up and we had to find our way around the side of the building in the dark.

A very friendly atmosphere. Everyone involved in our stay were only to pleased to help, chat and provide information. As a family of four it felt more like a home than hotel, and with two fussy eaters the menu choices were excellent. We would recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

The evening meal that I had there was excellent - worth the stay for that alone! Owner's friendly. Room of a good standard. Recommended Room was a little cold - heating not on. I'm sure if I'd of mentioned it, it would have been sorted out, but living a rural lifestyle, I put up with it.

This was a very quiet and restful location. However, still within easy reach of Tavistock, Gunnislake and local National Trust properties. The welcome was friendly and the service good.

The accomodation was very good and served the purpose of our visit. I would also like to add that we ate in the Resturant and had a very good meal. The owner and his wife made us feel very much at home and I would recommend it to others.

It proved an excellent place to stay - we were very impressed with the whole stay - it was good value for money; the owner and wife were verey welcoming; the room very nice and the food very good. We would stay there again happily and plan to in the future. Purely as a useful comment - more choice for vegetarian meals would be good.

The whole place was very relaxed about everything - meaning nothing was too much trouble for them. They even welcomed a muddy, mad springer spaniel. The food and wine at their restaurant was excellent in taste, price and service. It is a remote hamlet but that's Devon for you.

Fabulous location, with welcoming hosts who showed me to my room quickly & without any fuss. Food was superb with good quality evening menu & excellent breakfast. Surprised at how good this b&b was after reading some reviews before my arrival but took a chance & can only suggest some people who have criticised this place need to get a life or maybe stay in a hotel on The Strand to ensure your wishes are carried out swiftly! Tv reception in my room was poor for all bbc channels which is annoying & easily remedied.

Delightfully quiet rural location with good internet access and easy car parking. Excellent breakfast and very helpful and pleasant owners. For someone who visits the area several times a year this is a welcome addition to the hotels I feel I can rely on. Bed was a little too soft for my personal taste but I like orthopaedic. The TV was not tuned when I tried it, I simply switched to use the internet.

The only problem was finding the property it needs a posted signboard or a wall hung sign board, we drove past it the first time! The rooms were small but ample for what we needed, the food and staff were both very good and nothing was to much of a problem would certainly recommend or visit if in the area again.Value for money was good and food excellent. Many thanks !
