Score from 154 reviews Wonderful
Ideally placed between the historic towns of Monmouthshire and Chepstow. Tintern is in the heart of the Wye Valley, and all of the attractions it has to offer.
Score from 146 reviews Excellent
Standing high above the Wye River, the Royal Hotel has fine river and countryside views. It offers traditional cuisine, free on-site parking and bedrooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 561 reviews Excellent
The hotel is nestled just below Symonds Yat Rock and stands exclusively in grounds of almost 5 acres, overlooking the river. It has terraced gardens of magnolia trees and a well established wisteria.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, I was a bit wary beforehand as we were travelling with a dog which is not something we're done often before but the staff immediately made us very welcome and Freddie(our dog) became very popular with the staff.

Excellent service, Beautiful building.

The view from the hotel room was amazing, overlooking fields full of sheep and lambs. The food was simply delicious, huge portions! Choose the lamb at your own risk! (absolutely gigantic!)

Close to campsite with amusement arcade and seedy bar which you had to walk by to get to riverside for trips - not pretty and a little intimidating. Road to village narrow and quite busy with no path. Room in need of modernising, creaky floorboards, peeling wallpaper. Some staff not very efficient, prices not cheap, more so in restaurant so ate in bar which meant getting own cutlery and condiments from side table.
Located conveniently just off A40 to South Wales. Hotel has plenty of character and history, though staff a little hazy on this subject. Lovely garden area.

Wifi is a bit slow but being from London it was a welcome break!
The staff were fantastic - we felt at home immediately. The breakfast was awesome, especially the eggs royale, top marks. The location is great is you are doing an activity packed weekend; just across the road from the Amazing Hedge Puzzle, Butterfly Farm and Mini Golf. A short walk from a couple of local pubs and kayaking places. Would recommend Old Court Hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing country break.

We loved our room in the older part of the building with exposed beams. The location and view were terrific. Although we visited in mid winter we would happily return in mid summer to make use of the large gardens. Sitting in the old bar after dinner for a night cap was wonderful. Breakfast was lovely too.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Never stayed in such a dog friendly hotel before, he was made a fuss of by everyone. Lovely building and grounds.

My family spent Christmas 2014 here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were well looked after by the staff and the food is amazing. The rooms are warm, comfortable and the medieval theme of the hotel is idyllic for celebrating Christmas. The wood burning stoves added to the festive ambience. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back in the summer to appreciate the lovely hotel gardens amidst the beautiful Wye Valley.

Had a very good night, stayed in a suite in the coach house, food was very good and plenty of it.
December 2, 2014
The shower was a bit disappointing, not hot, giving drops of it, and it was impossible to have a bath in the bathtub. One was stuck with the poor shower.
The food. The breakfast. The restaurant in the hotel. Best fish and chips ever in the hotelpub. The garden. The old house and barns where our previous (2007) and present room was. Beautiful old building/s with masses of character. First thing we always do in England is have fish and chips. What a bliss in the Old Court Hotel.

"Suite" = tired looking self catering accommodation. Also told on Friday night to book a table for Sat. evening at breakfast on Sat morning, to be told dining room was full. Surely live in guests should have first preference? This was supposed to be our wedding anniversary special meal and landed up having a bar meal instead - very disappointing.
Location and staff were friendly
