A great location for a visit to the opera house The room was like an ice box and the best they could come up with was a small electric heater. Not good for an expensive hotel.

The town centre location; easy (though not free) parking; good service at excellent breakfast; friendly, helpful reception staff; the general "country house hotel" style and facilities. The wardrobe interior shelf hadn't been dusted in ages and we got dust on our clothes as a result. Our room was a good size (no. 12) and a comfortable temperature but our companions in room 41 (?) had a pokey, over-warm room for the same tariff. I wouldn't have wanted their room for the money charged!!!

The room was large and pretty well equipped with pleasant view over a park area. Due to its proximity to the Opera House there were no parking places on arrival - all were marked permit only. Would have been good to know before arrival that hotel issues 24hr permits to save the frustration of searching the neighbourhood for a space. The bed was a 2 poster not the booked 4 poster (not a big issue but still...). The room was near the stairway and we were slightly disturbed by people traffic all around with banging doors and creaking floors. Party in the basement one night and the entrance was just below our windows, so we were disturbed by general noise of smokers congregating outside including swearing throughout evening and after it ended at 1am.

the hotel restaurant was nice, staff were helpful and friendly anf the food was delicious I had spoke to receptions a few days prior to the trip to see if i could upgrade the room. I was told there were no upgrades available and that reception would ensure i got a good room. When we arrived and made our way to the room i was very dissapointed. There were visable cracks in the ceiling, non of the furnature matched, burn stains on the bedding and the room was very small. The room seemed more like that of a budget hotel than what i had expected, i was very disappointed and feel that the £89.00 cost of the room for one night was over priced.

The breakfast was the best, the choice was fantastic and the service was superb! The fact that although our room was comfortable (we booked an executive suite) everything seemed to be on a slope. The room and bathroom could have done with a real good sping clean, there was lots of mould. The bedding was clean and the bed was very comfortable but the windows needed cleaning and a few other places, it was as though it had been top cleaned to manage. Another strange thing that I did not really like was the fact that we needed to go through a extremely small door to get to our room, we are both quite tall and needed to bend to get through this door and it was also quite narrow. I think the whole place needs a lick of paint and a bit of a lift to bring it up to standard.

Central location, close to local restaurants, shops and the Opera House. Breakfast was very, very good. Tired looking. Bedroom did not feel clean, it felt like it was in urgent need of refurbishment. No "atmosphere" in either of the bars. There was a band playing in a venue under the hotel, which I believe is owned by the hotel. We were not informed of this at checkin. The bass seemed to make the whole of the ground floor "shake". It was not noticeable once upstairs though.

It is in an historic and beautiful location. The staff were attentive and helpful although they had limited resources. The breakfast was very good. My room was supposed to be an executive room. It had not been dusted for at least 3 or 4 days and the bathroom had mildew around the bath and shower screen and was less than clean. The whole place looked "tired". The hotel has a night club in the cellar and whilst the noise from the "disco" was not too bad, the clientèle was extremely noisy outside the entrance until at least 2am. I wish I had had a room at the back of the hotel. I was booked into the hotel for 3 nights by my group organiser who phoned and booked, I added an extra night through Booking.com for £20 per night less.

the breakfast was very good. The staff were polite and pleasant. Things were not well organised. Without going into too many details, for example we were looking for the a la carte dinner menu. It was about 10 yards away from the restaurant-in a poky corner!

The age of the hotel gives it great character and atmosphere. The position of the hotel is excellent for everything. Shops, Pavillion Gardens, Opera House and for all the various functions held within the Pavillion. We enjoyed the Antique Fair. We liked the position for National Trust Houses etc. etc.

Leaving Room was shabby , dirty and needed refurbishment. There was a large blood stain on the armchair. The doorlock did not work. there is no parking and you have to pay £3 at reception for a ticket. It was supposed to be an executive room! At £150 I would expect a lot more.

Very good central location, and friendly staff. Whilst no private parking, for £3:00 you get 24hrs in public parking areas. Breakfast totally ideal for a those with a long walk ahead - a good choice of fruit, cereals, juices etc to start with, before the cooked breakfast is served up. Free wi-fi - but only if you are on the ground floor. No signal in the bedroom. No private parking. No pool or other facilties. The extra bed for kids is an old Z-bed - very uncomfortable for adults. Mostly elderly guests in the hotel and in the evening for dinner. Something very old fashioned about the place, which may of course be the attraction for many - other would say a full make-over is long overdue. The full rack rate for this hotel cannot really be justified.

The old-world atmosphere combined with the modern comfort; the historic feel of the place with all its little lounges, bars, corridors and even its quaint, antiquated lift! The light and airy restaurant; the good food and the provision of pre- and post-theatre meals; the very pleasant and helpful staff, from receptionists to cleaners; the hotel's proximity to the opera house; the delightful outlook to the tree-covered green; the lack of piped music or any radio at mealtimes and the quietness of the hotel in general. Despite our comment above, the lift is really in need of improvement as it barely held two people and their luggage, and then only two people on intinmate terms! And even if enlarging it were deemed impossible due to engineering problems in this historic building, it should be possible to install one that did not fail to work because someone fails to close the sliding door and that had an 'in use' indicator. We were lucky to be able to call on a very helpful girl cleaner to help us - twice - else it would have been very annoying.

Full of history and in a beautiful location, The Old Hall hotel would appeal to couples or singles of any age. The breakfast's are wonderful, the staff attentive and the rooms cosy but not cramped. Just a short stroll away from the Pavillion, a variety of restaurants and the town centre, there is no chance of being bored and a raft of stunning scenery is only a drive away. We'll be going back again very soon!

the building is fascinating..a real slice of British history........as an added bonus we'd been to see Nick Lowe at the Opera House and he was in the hotel bar later with his band so we were able to chat to him about the show the beer was a bit pricey...that aside no complaints
