The breakfast and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
So many functions sometimes you felt you had to relax where you could.
I enjoyed the historical links and individual character of the hotel, located conveniently within Buxton Spa. Easy access to station and other local amenities such as parks shops and pavilion
Old lift and limited access to take baggage up and down from upper floors.
Combination of history with good facilities,a friendly staff and an attractive location.
Staff are always happy and nothing's to much for them to do for anyone food great bedrooms luxury and the ideal setting
Nothing no complaints at all
Location very close to the Opera House and other facilities in Buxton. Hotel comfortable, if a little dated but it is billed as "old" so can be expected. Staff friendly but not very professional or efficient. However enjoyed our 1 night stay after a theatre visit.
Some faux pas on part of staff but mostly all put right. Salmon in the Bistro was delicious but billed as "trout" and we were told that the chef insisted it was trout. No way! Asked for Latte and served filter coffee and cold milk. No serviettes with the afternoon tea and the jar of preserve had been opened and used previously! All put right but needs more attention to staff training.
Period hotel but didn't look dated. Superb large room and friendly staff.
WiFi connectivity a bit hit or miss at times.
Location and price.
Found an old pair of socks in the wardrobe.
Location, cheap parking, nice staff, good breakfast, nice wine bar.
Chef moaning about a deal that we asked for and he made it clear he wasn't happy from another room!!
Quaint, comfortable, friendly, old and interesting. All slightly worn around the edges - as you would expect. Friendly staff and wholesome food. The Parking Meter in the reception office.
Cumfy bed, quite ,warm room , excellent breakfast, lovely staff, Central location .
This stay.... Nothing !
Relaxed, warm atmosphere and all staff were friendly and efficient.
Very traditional hotel with lots of history, offering very good service in an excellent location. In the heart of Buxton.
staff were great
rooms could do with a make over
Atmosphere. Friendly and relaxed in a pleasant way.
Loud disco music on New Years Eve but realise it couldn't be helped.
Great location and friendly staff
The room was a little bit tired and needed a bit of a face lift,( this was not a problem,it is only a comment.)
Loved our stay here. The hotel has so much character and is very well located in the centre of Buxton. The staff were always so friendly and helpful.
A perfect location opposite the Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens. The staff were friendly and always helpful and the lounge area made it very easy to talk to other guests. The restaurant was stylish and there was also a good choice of menu in the Wine Bar. We liked the decoration of our room and the public rooms.
The old-fashioned lift looked interesting and suited the building but didn't always work
It was a quite small, 38 rooms, hotewl right in the centre of Buxton. The hotel is a traditional English one with the deco and furniture that matched. The staff were all very helpful and very polite.
The weather but that wasn't the hotels fault, well I hope not ! Ha Ha
Accommodation was very elegant and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful and food & wine was also excellent. Excellent value for money. I would stay again
Liked the staff and the way the room was changed the minute we complained. Found having the Concert Dinner a good way to enjoy our meal without any rush.
Hated the room. I had particularly rung and booked a room with a large double bed and we were given " the black hole of Calcutta' with a tiny double and a single. When we complained were told the 'EXCECUTIVE' description applied to the room and not the bed. Don't get that at all. It was possibly one of the worst room I have ever been offered and I have travelled a lot.
Well situated in the town centre within short walking distance of shops, park, opera house, in fact close to everything Buxton has to offer. A wonderful old building in need of a little tlc.
Car parking close by, payable at the machine. You can get a concessionary parking ticket from hotel reception but this wasn't mentioned on the website. We only discovered this after paying full price! The Old Hall is a splendid building but unless some money is spent on the exterior maintenance I fear it will go the same way as the neighbouring hotel 'The Crescent' which I was told had recently been rescued with National Lottery / English Heritage funding. Leaking gutters and fall pipes lead to damp and crumbling walls - surely it wouldn't take much to remedy these minor problems before they become major issues???
Location Good breakfast Polite and friendly staff Powerful shower
Room was cold at night Bed was a bit old and rickety.
Having to leave
Lovely location, full of history, comfy bed in a good size room.
View from the room of a roof and a boarded up building. No tables at breakfast had to be served in the bistro on our own.
