Very friendly staff. The breakfast was wonderful, cooked to order, generous portions and a super selection.
Staff were excellent. A young girl named Louise attended to me in the restaurant at dinner. Wonderful service. The next morning I met her clearing snow away from blocking parked cars.
The breakfast was delicious...
We had comments
I like the location and the staff were really nice...
we arrived for breakfast at 9.45 and much of the fruit and other stuff was gone...
Pleasantly surprised by overall standard and breakfast was excellent. Parking was not an issue either bearing in mind the potential issues when using a general access Pay & Display.
We booked this hotel at the last minute while on holiday with our small puppy. In the morning for breakfast they offered to set us up in a private lounge room to eat so that we wouldn't have to leave her in the room (or in the car like some other hotels). We really appreciated that, and that alone would make us come back! Breakfast was tasty too - the location was in the centre of town opposite a lovely park so easy to walk anywhere - room was spacious and clean and I think it had a king size bed too.
All was good - its a classic older hotel
Location All staff lovely, cheerful, and willing to help
The service was slow at breakfast, but to be fair, there were several large groups who all arrived within 10 mins of each other
Staff were very friendly
Wish I had known about getting a parking permit from the hotel
The friendlyness of staff. Ckeanliness of rooms. Location
Though the rooms were clean, the decor was very dated. The bed was very lumpy and uncomfotable.
The staff were nice, helpful real people not "customer care" robots. Great room.
Best breakfast ever Helpful staff Great starting point for anywhere in the Peak District
My husband thought the bed hard
The history of the hotel, and the pleasant surroundings.
Very nice hotel with character and excellent service
Polite staff very patient and accomodating
Location good staff most helpful
We have stayed in better quality exec rooms, fixtures and fittings in room looking tired and décor is dated.
Staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly throughout. The bed was enormous and very comfortable and the room was spacious and tastefully furnished, although lighting was a little subdued. Compact en suite with lovely large and fluffy bath towels. The breakfasts are 1st class with something to suit all tastes and freshly cooked and a great way to start the day. Bottled water supplied in the room was welcome and replenished daily.
The hotel was on the cool side especially in the dining and lounge areas which was a shame, although our room was warm and cosy.
the old style rooms, bars etc friendly atmosphere
as the food quality and choice is so good in the wine bar, I expected better choice in the restaurant, but there is only 6 main courses on the menu, although if the wine bar is anything to go by, they would be cooked to perfection, but still... little choice
Large double room. Clean and well presented. Fabulously fluffy towels. Warm on a pretty cold night.
Breakfast buffet needs a facelift. Not aesthetically pleasing. Bacon overlooked.
Ticked all the boxes for us, great service, location, clean and unusual rooms, with all you ned for a night or two away.
Needs updating but comforatble staff excellent. None
The room and breakfast were fine. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening as we had a large afternoon tea earlier in the day.
What's not to like!
Friendly helpful staff
Carpets in the stairway are little smelly and need replacing but we understand the whole hotel is being upgraded soon.
staff excell;ent good location near town centre.
room was four poster bed but view out of window to walll .
We stayed for just one night, visiting friends and loved the hotel and Buxton. It is a pleasure to stay in a hotel which feels like a one-off rather than part of a chain. And it had a great story to tell, having been built to house Mary Queen of Scots under house arrest when she visited Buxton to take the waters. Our bedroom was large with Victorian furniture, and a very comfortable bed. We could adjust the radiators and open the windows, which was welcome. Breakfast was a delicious buffet with a big choice, including fresh raspberries, and a full cooked English. Service was friendly and personal.
