Location Room Wifi Parking Helpfulness of staff
Had one meal in the restaurant. Fair value if the food had been excellent. It wasn't. My wife's sirloin steak was not edible When plate was collected with a full steak on plate not a comment from the staff The vegetables weren't that god either. I wouldn't eat there again. Though the breakfast was excellent
The night porter immensely helpful, location fabulous & breakfast was delicious!
Decor dated & general tiredness about the upstairs. Rooms need updating in terms of carpets & bathrooms & windows wet through on the inside in the morning. No complimentary bottled water left in the room as should have been (room 36). Was a great size room but bedside cabinet tops ridiculously stained, appearing unclean but perhaps not in reality. Initial room allocated had an extremely sloping bed (too much for any ordinary person to sleep reasonably)- room 12 & was dark & dingy. Requested relocation & obliged. Breakfast staff a little intrusive & noisy whilst serving- akin to feeding the 5 thousand with only 6 people in what otherwise would have been a beautifully calm breakfast room with a tranquil view. Reception staff could be more polite, welcoming & available.
I expected all the historic atmosphere, which fully lived up to my expectations. But what I han't expected on my arrival with a bad cold and sore shoulder was the presence of a stuffed bear named Huggie! He claimed this was his foster home, and said he was available for adoption. He provided the warm presence I needed that night, and, needless to say, I am taking him home with me, and may even let my niece play with him!
We loved the atmosphere, the decor and most of all the location and history of this hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was of a wonderful standard served by very welcoming staff.
Breakfast excellent. Location fantastic. Helpful staff.
Central, easy to find, historic building, good breakfast.
Exceptional staff and exceptional breakfast which readied us for the day. We loved the garden seating area for drinks.
A bit up the hill, but good for our legs.
Lovely Hotel friendly people lovely comfortable room. Beautiful park opposite to walk our dogs. Very pleased they let dogs stay in such a lovely place. Had a good breakfast in morning too. Would stay again.
Decor, surroundings, attention to detail, proximity to opera house & town Thankyou!
Should have stayed for a week!
welcoming, friendly, clean and good service
nothing to speak of
Lovely hotel - bags of unique character - very old and a fascinating history.
Very hard pillows
Opposite the Pavilion Gardens and Buxton Opera House Also close to the shops and bus stops (so didn't have far to carry the suitcase). The reception and bar staff were very helpful. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable.
We had breakfast on two occasions, the first day excellent service and quick. On the second day we had to wait 30 minutes for the main breakfast, no explanations as to why it had taken so long, when it did arrive the meal was under cooked and tasteless. Very disappointed as the first day had been so good.
staff very nice, friendly facilities good central location
rooms shabby, massively over-priced, very dated we had a 'superior' room which wasn't superior by any stretch of the imagination our 'superior' bathroom wasn't even as nice as the one we have just ripped out at home
Every thing very quaint service very good all round
Cooked Breakfast could have been hotter. But was still very good.
nice place but was only there for a wedding other than that I really cant say anything good about it the only thing I can say is if you like being treated like a child then this is the place I did feel younger when spoken too like a two year old
cost 2 nights £179 and that was a cheap room. shower was hot cold had pressure didn't have pressure the lot all in all rubbish. the award winning breakfast was poor at best if I had paid £40 per night I would have felt ripped off all in all if you like paying a lot for very little this is the place I wont be going back that's for sure
I appreciate this hotel is old, but bedroom desperately needs updating. Bathroom had been revamped but room was dreary and depressing! and was ok but room was dreary and depressing. Wardrobe did not close properly and door kept opening.
A lovely historic building in a prime location, minutes from Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens. Rooms are comfortable and clean, breakfast was lovely with a very good choice of fruit, pastries, cereals and hot breakfasts. We didn't eat in the restaurant but will try it next time. Don't miss the copy of Mary Queen of Scots window etchings in the entrance hall! Note that to get the £3 / day parking you have to park outside the hotel and get your ticket inside but there are plenty of spaces.
Staff first class a.wine bar food very good.bed in room excellent.
No free parking a.no rolls at breakfast or slices of cheese or ham a.award winning breakfast I don't think so ?. Noisy businessman using Skype in wine bar.many items missing from room eg water, towel ,bath robes ,also mold around bath not dealt with after complaint.room cleaning not good .
Great location overlooking park, opera house and crescent. Staff are all pleasant and willing.
The hotel shows evidence of lack of investment over long period and a 'make do' mentality. It has enormous unrealised potential and with better management could be a 4* hotel with substantial appeal.
Really is what you would call a charming hotel - very old, but clean & comfortable with very friendly staff. Excellent location right in centre of town and opposite beautiful large public park. Very good food too. Really enjoyed our stay.
