The Westminster Hotel overlooks the picturesque Pavillion Gardens in central Buxton. It offers charming, family-run accommodations, and many rooms have views of the park and lake.
Score from 456 reviews Very good
It was a quite small, 38 rooms, hotewl right in the centre of Buxton. The hotel is a traditional English one with the deco and furniture that matched. The staff were all very helpful and very polite.
The weather but that wasn't the hotels fault, well I hope not ! Ha Ha
Accommodation was very elegant and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful and food & wine was also excellent. Excellent value for money. I would stay again
Liked the staff and the way the room was changed the minute we complained. Found having the Concert Dinner a good way to enjoy our meal without any rush.
Hated the room. I had particularly rung and booked a room with a large double bed and we were given " the black hole of Calcutta' with a tiny double and a single. When we complained were told the 'EXCECUTIVE' description applied to the room and not the bed. Don't get that at all. It was possibly one of the worst room I have ever been offered and I have travelled a lot.
Well situated in the town centre within short walking distance of shops, park, opera house, in fact close to everything Buxton has to offer. A wonderful old building in need of a little tlc.
Car parking close by, payable at the machine. You can get a concessionary parking ticket from hotel reception but this wasn't mentioned on the website. We only discovered this after paying full price! The Old Hall is a splendid building but unless some money is spent on the exterior maintenance I fear it will go the same way as the neighbouring hotel 'The Crescent' which I was told had recently been rescued with National Lottery / English Heritage funding. Leaking gutters and fall pipes lead to damp and crumbling walls - surely it wouldn't take much to remedy these minor problems before they become major issues???
Location Good breakfast Polite and friendly staff Powerful shower
Room was cold at night Bed was a bit old and rickety.
Having to leave
Lovely location, full of history, comfy bed in a good size room.
View from the room of a roof and a boarded up building. No tables at breakfast had to be served in the bistro on our own.
Like stepping back in time ,loved the quirky rooms ! Excellent Breakfast everything to sait every pallet.
Wanted to book dinner at the Hotel, but was told that the dinning room was full ,but the wine bar was available ,which I booked ,but I found it to be quiet chilly and less than atmospheric. Electrical cable hanging from the Room ceiling in which we stayed .
Everything.... will go back again!
Super friendly staff throughout.
Beautiful and interesting building Fantastic setting (opposite park and central for town). Good size room and comfortable bed, with good view Parking was convenient and an asset in town
Breakfast was not up to standard of other features of hotel - mushrooms were grilled which made them dry, black pudding was cooked to a crisp. Reception was a little slow - not enough staff to cover phones and computer bookings as well as the counter.
Excellent location, friendly staff, superb breakfasts, top--notch dinners and great value for money. Who could ask for more?
Excellent position for the opera house
Warm friendly staff made us very welcome from check-in to check-out
Ambiance and location.
Had to wait ~45 mins for cooked breakfast on one occasion due to only one chef in kitchen but presumably due to unforeseen circumstances. Kipper looked a little bit lonely when it arrived; a grilled tomato with it would have been nice. A minor niggle, staff were always delightful.
We enjoyed an excellent and perfectly cooked breakfast.
WANTED TO STAY LONGER
Post theatre dinner, excellent quality and value. Pushed for time reception accepted case and put in room without official book in, all taken care of after arrived back from theatre. Excellent service.
Parking, but that's Buxton!
Staff friendly and very near to opera house, very accommodating with requests.
Breakfast took an hour and a half to arrive and 2 of the party had to go so left without any breakfast, apparently there was only 1 cook on duty and couldn't cope with number of guests. Saying that they were very apologetic and tried their best to resolve the situation.
Bar service Food, and late service Large room Awesome bed
Everyone in Buxton is 76....
A lovely big room with a separate bathroom. All spotlessly clean and well equipped with all you need. Lovely hotel and very comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
Staff & service generally.
Location Staff Food Ambiance
Lack of light in room due to positioning of our room, couldn't be helped but a bit disappointing.
Loved the atmosphere, the charm of the place, the decor, the room. We are planning to go back again soon.
