Score from 223 reviews Very good
The staff were very friendly and the food was good. The room had been renovated It was very peaceful and accepted dogs.
The damp smell
WiFi/ food ok
Bedding not changed, bathroom tiles loose sealing gone
The price and location were just right for our 1 night stay. The venue was very accomidating for our baby boy. The breakfast was good and there were option's for a cold or hot breakfast.
Room could have done with a bit of a spring clean. The carpets could be doing with shampoo as there is a bit of a musty smell coming from them ok for 1 night but if stayed longer may have been a bit of a problem. The toilet didnt have a button on top of the flusher which is an easy fix.
We liked the comfartable beds & clean bathrooms/showers.
We didn't like the smell of damp that greeted us in the reception area. The breakfast could have been better with items such as the tea & beans served lukewarm at best. The rooms, 3 & 7 were in real need of upgrading. Not a place I would be expecting to return to anytime soon.
The room was clean, Andy is clearly working very hard to fix up and run the hotel fom what we saw on his own.
The owner/manager was friendly and helpful and couldnt do enough to provide excellent customer service. This guy is trying his best to upgrade the facilities on offer and the ongoing renovations will make a difference. I am sure given a little time and moral support from customers this could be a great little hotel........ I have stayed in worse places
Could do with a PIR light on the overflow car park as we couldnt really see where we were walking.
Sat Nav sends you to the wrong destination.Building is going through refurbishment and this is not mentioned on Booking.com very run down, so no bar although they can provide alcohol, menu limited. Food warm.Could not be bothered to complain as nowhere else to find food close by.
Charming old fashioned bedroom
A little disorganised
Location next to a mill stream and country park like setting.
Limited parking; stained carpeting; dark hall ways; no sound barriers between rooms; general appearance of neglect.
not clean and needed rufurbishing.
Andy the in keeper was awesome. The room was tiny but comfortable. The food was always good. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel this is not going to work for you but if you want a quiet clean friendly place to stay for a night or 2 I would recommend. The scenery is lovely and one can hear the water rolling from the river.
The business needs closing for a period of time and completely refurbished. New ideas need to be incorporated. A large capex spend is required. I would also suggest planning permision be applied for to clear some of the unkempt garfen area to add a parking facilities. As it is the business is a disgrace, but..... there is huge potential if there was real investment to bring it back to its former glory.
Room smelt musty, tv did not work. only cold water when tying to have a shower. Only one pillow per person and bed very hard. not an enjoyable experience.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Excellent cooked breakfast.
Just a couple of things. The cold tap on the sink only gave a trickle of water. Also a few more breakfast starters would have been good, especially fruit.
friendliness very clean very good food comfortable room
Friendly staff. Waterfall outside of room. Breakfast Room. Breakfast.
Smells from ladies toilet on first floor level. Water pressure for bath etc. low.
V.little, though the breakfast was passable.
Unsafe kettle, v. pokey room, TV not working, bedside lamps not working - though they were repaired after complaining, the hotel smelt damp and odour from the laundry room & gents' loo was off-putting, bath tatty, no loo brush, & bathroom floor uneven. Dirty glasses not cleared away after they had been used days beforehand.
The sound of the water.
The smell- shake&vac meets smoke&damp. Cleanliness-mould, windows filthy. There were literally, smelly old socks in drawer & a rag in the bathroom. The food-eg a green pea in the ice cream! The tea tasted chemical. The Tv didnt work. The car park. Really poor area needing investment.
Lack of wifi. Rooms not cleaned properly. Musty smell through out the hotel. Breakfast very basic. Complete hotel requires refurbishment. Never stay again.
clean, comfortable, quiet, breakfast was good. nothing special but if you just want a bed for the night within easy walk/cheap taxi to the train station is probably as good as anywhere
stayed during commonwealth games so was horrendously over-priced for quality of accommodation (to be fair, every hotel in the area was the same at this time)
The bedding and bathroom was clean and There were some nice touches such as a little jar of sweets and a packet of shortbread... The owner Andy was friendly enough and the breakfast was reasonable but he was in the middle of a 're-fit' so you had to walk through the 'workshop' to get to the breakfast area...It is a very tired and dated hotel... very expensive for what it offers...
We booked a twin room in order to go to the Commonwealth Games... this was one of the few with rooms. It is off the beaten track and although it says it has a gift shop and coffee shop, these are not really functioning... the TV didn't work or the hairdryer. other things such as the room being cleaned or made up and tea and coffee items being replenished did not happen. The decking area outside is lethal and very slippery... Beware. It has potential but needs a huge injection of capital and someone with vision and drive to make it succeed...
Quiet location Historic building Close to town centre.
Dated and shabby decoration Poor facilities in room Little local information available.
Nice location by the waterfall. Friendly accommodating staff. Nice comfortable bed!lovely biscuits sweets and bottled water for us!
No shower (but a nice bath :))
Spectacular location and good staff. I arrived early for check-in at 13:00am and was accommodated within an hour. Very happy about that. If it was refurbished and cleaned, I would return in a heart beat because of the staff and location.
Very stuffy, smelly and dark. I will never trust to have a meal there. My entire credit card details was printed out and handed back to me, including my safety code. The office area was not secure and looked very filthy. The back porch has broken flooring. I almost fell through it.
Location. The bedroom overlooked a waterfall.
The water from the taps flowed rather slowly.
