The room was good and the breakfast excellent. We arrived at 11.15 and was told our room was ready but had to pay an extra £20.00 for early check-in. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels over the years abroad and in UK and have never been charged before. On a different note, I spoke with 3 members of staff saying how distressed we all were hearing the pigeons struggling for life and dying slowly trapped in the netting. We met a young man who was staying Saturday night in a room overlooking a large wall who showed us photos of the dead and dying pigeons stuck in the nets. We believe this to be humanly barbaric - slow painful deaths. I was assured by the male receptionist that he would pass on the comments as did the staff member in the garage. Sorry to go on but it really is cruel. Thank you.

Room was spacious and the bed so amazingly comfortable. The comfort of the bed all important because I had just completed the London 2 Brighton walking challenge. Bathroom also very spacious with a bath and powerful shower. Lovely! Be warned seafront location means it is quite noisy so don't book if you can't cope with that. I would also say that the corridors on the second floor need decorating. It may be that a redecoration is only part- finished because it was a different story once we entered our room which was gorgeous!

We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay at the Old ship Hotel. I had read some of the reviews before arriving and can honeslty say that the hotel ,although a bit dated was very comfortable. We were upgraded for free on arrival and that gave us a seaview which was perfect. The breakfast was outstanding and probably one of the best breakfast we have had when staying at a hotel. We got a really good deal from booking.com and would definately stay here again. Perfect location for everything we wanted in Brighton.

Location is excellent, right next to the lanes. You can people watch from the bar. Fun place for a lively weekend if you want to party. If you need your sleep don't stop Friday or Saturday night as the noise from clubbers is loud between 2 and 4 am. Cleaning standards have gone down a little sinse last time we stayed.

We found the location to be perfect for both beach and entertainment . Very friendly staff in all areas of the hotel, superb breakfast. The rooms were very well appointed. our firsr night room developed a nosiy plumbing problem and on telling reception the following morning mainly to inform them of a problem, they promptly offered us and upgrade to a sea-view room which was excellent. All in all a very pleasant stay and well certainly recommend to friends. Our first room was unheated and a trifle cold albeit the end of April but sea-view room was heated and very warm. Our first room was overlooking a side street which, through no fault of the Hotel was noisy with deliveries etc early morning, and in comparison to the sea view room which was double glazed, it would have been an advantage in the first room.

very nice hotel in a good location.very clean and tidy and very good value for money there was nothing I didn't like. My only niggle was that due to poor ventilation in the bathroom there were some mould forming on the wall above the bath which was a little unsightly and easily preventable.

The reception staff were excellent, as were the wating staff in the restaurant and the food was pretty good too As we had a sea facing premier room, I didn't expect to hear so much noise from the road, the old windows need refurbishing to help with the noise

I have stayed at Barcelo hotle's before and have always been pleased with them. The Old Ship in Brighton is in a fantastic location and very comfortable with very helpfull friendly staff. The Food is excellent. I have recommended the hotel to friends and will be choosing to stay there again on my next visit to Brighton.

The staff were a credit to the service industry, your company should be praising them often. They showed a care for your guests that I have not experienced for a long time, and I stay in many hotels. They need to be appreciated at the highest level, it would be such a shame if you lost them, I hope they are being treated well, or you will. The hotel remains as tatty as my last visit. The facade may have had a complete renovation, but internally the bedrooms were in need of attention, highlighted by someone with a critical eye. Carpets that dont meet the tiles in the bathroom, windows with perished plaster and wallpaper in the recesses, paintwork scuffed, bathrooms with tired paintwork and marked fittings, shower heads in need of replacement, ceiling in my room had been covered with lining paper that was coming unstuck and had been hurriedly painted, one coat only so the roller lines visible, all superficial repairs, that would make all the difference. Looks like it was a cheap, and rushed coverup. Not convinced that the rooms warrent the 4 star rating. Not only your guests, but your staff deserve better. I would recommend the hotel to others, but it would be based on the staff, not the rooms.

Hotel was ok, what we expected, clean and fair for the price. We were not impressed however about the 73 pounds extra that was taken as security on our bank card and not refunded until 2 days after we had returned home. This had not been explained to us and I'm sure it must be illegal! The hotel actually changed ownership on our last night but I think the blame lies with barcelo.

Very friendly, clean & tidy. Brilliant location too. The position of the room was a bit disappointing. My partner & I were woken early in the morning, each day, as the staff were moving large wheelie bins outside, they also spoke quite loudly too. So from that point of view we felt we couldn't relax or have a lie-in.

Excellent location. The staff were friendly and efficient. I enjoyed the fact the hotel was old and had lots of character. As the hotel is in such a great location - close to bars and restaurants - it could be noisy at night. However, this not the fault of the hotel, although double glazing may help!
