Very close to town centre, and buses The rooms we stayed in, first one was dreadful and 2nd one only slightly better which was a shame because entrance, lobby and bar areas were lovely I can only think that the more you pay the better the room. Was also shocked that we thought we had payed for room when in fact we hadn't, you took card details etc but we had to use a card again on checkout, this should have been pointed out when you sent confirmation

The room was good and the breakfast excellent. We arrived at 11.15 and was told our room was ready but had to pay an extra £20.00 for early check-in. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels over the years abroad and in UK and have never been charged before. On a different note, I spoke with 3 members of staff saying how distressed we all were hearing the pigeons struggling for life and dying slowly trapped in the netting. We met a young man who was staying Saturday night in a room overlooking a large wall who showed us photos of the dead and dying pigeons stuck in the nets. We believe this to be humanly barbaric - slow painful deaths. I was assured by the male receptionist that he would pass on the comments as did the staff member in the garage. Sorry to go on but it really is cruel. Thank you.

The hotel and rooms in need of upgrade, not worth what we paid, also very noisy of a night from outside until about 4am. This hotel has gradually gone down since we first stayed here 10 years ago

The location. The Staff - we waited 10 mins at an empty reception with a staff member just on computer and not acknowledging. Breakfast - only two staff members working front of house on this. I can honestly say I preferred my stay at the premier inn in Brighton recently.

Staff were brilliant and could not do enough for us. Jill, the lovely lady at breakfast was very welcoming and made us very comfortable. The receptionist was very helpful also. The hotel is ideally situated for our needs. Close to the town for shopping and restaurants. Right on the promenade and a gorgeous view of the coast. The room was clean and comfortable. Not disabled friendly. Wheelchair users would find it difficult. Lack of ramps to the bar and restaurant inside. Tiny lifts. Revolving entrance door. Wifi available, but chargeable. Car park cost £23 per day and no responsibility held by the hotel.

Breakfast was great. We went mid-week in early January and the hotel was quiet. We liked the fact that we could keep our dog in the room. Housekeeping did not clean our room even though we told them that we would be out of the hotel with our dog for 3 hours in the morning. This is surprising as there were hardly any guests.

Was not around the hotel long enough to pass comment, but I can confirm the room are very dated, more like 3 star and there was a stain on the chair. Only one lamp worked in the bathroom, and they could not replace ones not working, or change our room. With this in mind we were given a discount.

Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Good location. Small rooms. No room service after 10pm. Fairly expensive for the actual quality of hotel, it wasn't busy so others obviously think its also expensive.

Location. The room was dirty. The decor was badly in need of rennovation with paint peeling off the window ledges. The shower rail was three quarters rusted with dirty brown rust marks running into the shower curtain. There was a party downstairs and the music could be heard clearly in our room (on the 4th floor) until 1am, so we got no sleep until then. All very very poor value for £133. We have stayed at the Old Ship a number of times in the past but never again.

I had no heating and the hot water took about 5 minutes to come out of the taps (not exagerating!) the room was dark, very little lighting and cramped. There were mens shoes in my room on arrival and the audion commentary was stuck on the TV. I asked for a taxi to be booked and it wasn't. this made me late for my event

The rooms were lovely and clean, also very large and spacious. The staff and maintenance were friendly, polite and helpful. The location for what we needed was perfect. In might just have been on that weekend but the running of the hotel was very disorganised. We were given a room that somebody else was already in. Then our room had no bathroom curtain, Brighton has seen more of me than they bargained for! Then we were disturbed twice whilst rushing to get out the door by the hotel trying to get a curtain installed (we'd already had our showers) and then on checkout I'd been charged for a bottle of champagne instead of a glass, hmmm!

I have stayed at the hotel for some years now (15). It's convenience and central location are the main advantages. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The hotel, as you no doubt know needs a major revamp. Not sure in these economic times that is feasible so the ambience has to be its charm.
