Old Waverley Hotel  

We have stayed here before and particularly like the Central location as you can walk out of the door and are right in the hub of Edinburgh. The connection to the airport is so easy as the bus stop is just over the road and you also have Waverly Station and the bus station very close.

No lift to reception on first floor.

I booked the Old Waverley due to the location as 2 elderly members of our family group had difficulty walking long distances. The hotel is very close to the airlink bus terminal plus the three sightseeing buses so it made it very easy to get around. The hotel rooms - 209,210,309,317 (3 doubles and 1 twin) were lovely, everything you need for a couple of night's stay. Our bed/pillows were extremely comfortable and our room had a large lcd tv and view of the castle. The view at night is breaktaking. The breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, plenty to choose from and very hot. We found all the staff very friendly and loved the 'lush' smell throughout the hallways (from the Lush shop below). Please note that the ground floor of the Old Waverley is actually on the first floor of the building as there are shops below, so there are some steps to climb to reception first. If we return to Edinburgh in the future we will definately book the Old Waverley again.

Old Waverley is a very friendly hotel and staff couldn't be more helpful, breakfast fantastic, room very clean,warm and comfortable very well place for getting about the shops buses and station. Wonderful views from the hotel, we shall go back.

Food was good.

Not enough towels or bath mat supplied in rooms. Heating system poor and had to be turned off as it could not be turned down. A broken bathroom sink plug was not repaired until the next day necessitation use of the bath as a sink. Fabric of the rooms was poor and requires refurbishment especially the walls above the electric heaters. Very noisy due to location as windows are not double glazed.

This was our second visit and we feel the hotel website photos give a very accurate impression of the bedrooms. Our one was comfortable, very clean and spacious. We had the benefit of a great view without having to pay extra for it. The location is perfect for sightseeing. Desk staff were generally very pleasant. Breakfast was relaxing and also fascinating, watching tram workmen on Princes Street.

We were not aware under hotel policies that the hotel intended to pre charge us an additional £75 in case we were to charge anything to our room number.We assured two reception staff on arrival, that as we were paying in cash for our stay, any extras would also be paid in cash.A Friendly lady over ruled a somewhat unhelpful male member of staff on this point and he was clearly displeased.We did overhear another guest being asked to allow her payment card to be used in the same way.She too appeared to be unaware of this policy. Absolutely minor points - a very high and setback washbasin which meant a small person got quite wet bending over the basin! Pillows were scrunched up into half pillows as the filling was insufficient. Shampoo and bath gel were not replaced.

Clean Hotel / helpful staff / close to shopping and old town as well to buses and mainstation.

Matresses were not very comfortable, possibly good idea to replace one or other! Roadbuilders were aktiv throughout one whole night in front of our room! (Staff offered other apartment=thanks!)

The location is perfect and staff are friendly, good breakfaast and very nice view

I had baby in stroller and there were lots of stairs before arriving to lobby, but the porter always helped.so I don't recommend it to families with young kids. Rooms were a bit tiny but its fair since the rate is not that high

Room small and a bit cramped, but it was a low cost room so we shouldn't complain.

Excellent location with views over Princes Street and the Castle. Located just accross the road from Waverly train station. All Staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was served until 10am - managed to get a little bit of a lie in. we have found that for an overnight theatre break (Playhouse only a short walk away) the internal rooms without a view are excellent value for money - would not stay anywhere else for theatre breaks.

Due to the Listed Building status there is a flight of stairs to the reception (but there is a lift from this point onwards). Soap/perfume smells from the store next door to the Old Waverly Hotel entrance can permeate the reception area. While the above did not detract in any way from our experience it may be relevant for anyone less mobile or with an aversion/allergy to strong perfumed soaps etc.

The location was excellent right next to the train station and in the city centre next to all shops and nightlife locations, the staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean.

Although the hotel was very clean and the staff were lovely and helpful the rooms were very small even after paying £65 I do feel the room was very small and that money was a high price to pay for a room that size. I was also very annoyed that it needed to be paid on checkout especially after it said on this website it was fully paid for I did not bring the same card along with me and had to pay cash(just lucky I had some on me) .

Location suited very well - attending wedding at nearby hotel.

Old ill-fitting windows were noisy (wind rattled) and draughty. Food (lunch) not up to par.

Everything!!! I asked for a nice room with nice view as this was a treet for my husbands birthday and we were not disapointed
