I booked the Old Waverley due to the location as 2 elderly members of our family group had difficulty walking long distances. The hotel is very close to the airlink bus terminal plus the three sightseeing buses so it made it very easy to get around. The hotel rooms - 209,210,309,317 (3 doubles and 1 twin) were lovely, everything you need for a couple of night's stay. Our bed/pillows were extremely comfortable and our room had a large lcd tv and view of the castle. The view at night is breaktaking. The breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, plenty to choose from and very hot. We found all the staff very friendly and loved the 'lush' smell throughout the hallways (from the Lush shop below). Please note that the ground floor of the Old Waverley is actually on the first floor of the building as there are shops below, so there are some steps to climb to reception first. If we return to Edinburgh in the future we will definately book the Old Waverley again.

The location was excellent for access (beside the Train/Bus Station with an Airport Bus direct) for shopping and sightseeing. Our room was on the 6th floor with a bird's eye view over Princes Gardens and the Scott Monument. The Piper playing from dawn til dusk was very atmospheric. We were in Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival and had a hectic holiday. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, especially Christina in Reception, Shane the Porter and the friendly Barman from Dublin/Trim. The Lounge was comfortable for relaxing between shows/shopping trips. We would stay again!! Just one small item. The handle on the toilet kept falling off. Meant to report this at Reception but forgot. Otherwise we had a really good experience at this hotel.

Great location, clean The shower curtain was out of control. It was always coming in and getting water everywhere.... the shower was nice, but they need new curtains! Also, I did not like that our window was sealed and you couldn't see out of it.

The location is excellent, amazingly handy for the station and all things around the old town. When the tram works are completed (2016 I think it said?), it will be even better for getting around Edinburgh. The room we stayed in was a junior double, but was plenty big enough with a double bed, bathroom, chair, table and desk and even a handy wardrobe. It was all nice and clean, and we had a good view of Princes St and the beautiful Jenner's building opposite, as we were on the 4th floor. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty - a lovely fry up for the cold mornings, as well as healthier fruit and yoghurt for those otherwise inclined! Staff were friendly and never failed to say hello. I can't find fault with the room, breakfast, staff, especially for the price! Only niggle was the lift could be a little bouncy, but that encouraged me to walk off the breakfast up the stairs...!

Close to both old and new towns of Edinburgh. Classy, yet old fashioned feel. Would have been 5 star back in it's day. Heating racks for towels were handy. Bed was comfortable. No free parking, hard to get to due to road works (April 2012), price was more expensive than originally quoted, rooms were small.

The staff members were all fantastic! As we were taking the train to and from Edinburgh, the location was also very convenient. The doors are very thin so you can hear everything in the hall way.

The location was great and the view of the scott Monument and the Castle was unbeatable. The bar lunch service was good as well. The breakfast was disappointing--overcooked scrambled egg and grilled bacon with white deposits ( water I think) ugh ! The ambience in the bar and the restaurant was functional with too bright lights and missing those small touches that would have made it special---eg candles, flowers etc.

It was my second stay at the Old Waverley--walking distance from the train...major bonus. I know the area...construction wasn't so great and only concern was bathroom lock was unreliable...locked in a friend who came to pick me up. We had to use a coin to unscrew the mechanism to get her out. Fortunately I didn't lock it while alone in the room or would have been stuck! :) Otherwise the room and hotel were exactly as I wanted...clean place to sleep and central to Edinburgh The steps are always a challenge...but I knew them before I checked in and they make it clear in their summary on websites...so nothing I didn't like about the place!

I was very dissappointed I needed to check out early and I give 17 hours notice but they wanted 24, 1st they tried to blame yourselves and said that you would charged them but when I contacted yourselves you phoned the hotel and said that you would not charge them then they said they would need to speak to their Gen. Manager but it would be the following morning when I went in the morning to speak to Gen Manager I was told he was not in yet so I decided to wait in the Reception area, I was then confronted with this man who was doing porter and had put on a Blue Jumper and said he was the manager and would not let me book out without charging me, I couldnt believe it as I work in a 4star hotel myself, I have used this hotel over the passed 7 years because of its location but I will not stay in this Hotel again they have just lost a good customer also, 1 chair in the room for 2 people and I always request the same room on the 1st floor Re: my arthritis and I was put on the 4th floor I thought they handel it very badly not letting me check out without charge.

One of the best locations in town, we had a double room with fabulous princes street view. There's a very easy access to both train station and bus station, yet we did not even need to use public transport at all during our stay in Edinburgh. If you like old-fasion style buildings, definitely choose Old Waverley. The lobby doesn't look like a three-star hotel lobby at all. The breakfast was quite disappointing. The small lift often gets annoying.

Reception staff were excellent. Just one negative. Perhaps a few single tables could be placed at the outer of the dining room rather than stuck in the middle as a solo traveller this can be embarassing

The location is excellent, close to railway station and bus to airport. I found the staff in the reception not very friendly. Not a good start. Also we had ordered breakfast to our room at 06.00 am the next morning, as we had to travel early. No breakfast room at time agreed. Called reception 5 min past time agreed. Breakfast still about 10 minutes away we were told, after 10 minutes we were called from reception that breakfast would be served in restaurant anyhow. We then had only about 10 minutes to go down and "throw in" breakfast as we had to catch an early train for a long journey. Very bad. Also we were told when we ordered early brekafast for the next morning, that we were going to be charged 2 gbp for the breakfast to our room, although the receptionist later waived that fee, as we told what had happened, so ok. But I wasn't very charmed by the staff in general.

Ideal location for Waverley station and the city centre, and the online deal of £150 for two nights with breakfast excellent. Staff were pleasant to talk to and attentive. The luggage storage facility was most welcome. The entrance stairs proved tiresome due to a recent knee injury. In room 608, hot water took time to come through. On my second day, the breakfast bacon needed a lot of fat cutting off, at variance with the first day when it was very lean and tasty.

We stayed one night, the staff were very friendly, the room was extremely tidy. I requested a nice room and we were given a room with a view overlooking the front street and castle which was great. The breakfast is a buffet style which is kept fresh and the quality is nice. We paid a lot less than the standard room rate and if this offer was on again we would definitely stay again. All in all a great hotel. I recommend easyparks which is around a twenty minutes walk but half the price of the ncp car parks in the city.

We had a wonderful room with fantastic views. It was so easy to find all the attractions We did not get round to sampling the food as we preferred to choose from the many wonderful restaurants close by. We loved the huge bed and great shower altogether a super place to spend a city break or longer. This hotel offers rooms that you can move about in easily loads of space here.
