The location The room was not what I expected, small compared to he pictures shown in the Hotel description. Extremely noisy, was given the opinion all work on Princes Street was put on hold for December, however we had very noisy work being carried out directly under our window, starting at 8am in the morning, diggers, JCB's, drills, jack hammers, horrendous. It is my opinion that a warning regarding the noise of these works should be mentioned. Did spoil our stay to some extent.

I booked the Old Waverley due to the location as 2 elderly members of our family group had difficulty walking long distances. The hotel is very close to the airlink bus terminal plus the three sightseeing buses so it made it very easy to get around. The hotel rooms - 209,210,309,317 (3 doubles and 1 twin) were lovely, everything you need for a couple of night's stay. Our bed/pillows were extremely comfortable and our room had a large lcd tv and view of the castle. The view at night is breaktaking. The breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, plenty to choose from and very hot. We found all the staff very friendly and loved the 'lush' smell throughout the hallways (from the Lush shop below). Please note that the ground floor of the Old Waverley is actually on the first floor of the building as there are shops below, so there are some steps to climb to reception first. If we return to Edinburgh in the future we will definately book the Old Waverley again.

The location was excellent for access (beside the Train/Bus Station with an Airport Bus direct) for shopping and sightseeing. Our room was on the 6th floor with a bird's eye view over Princes Gardens and the Scott Monument. The Piper playing from dawn til dusk was very atmospheric. We were in Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival and had a hectic holiday. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, especially Christina in Reception, Shane the Porter and the friendly Barman from Dublin/Trim. The Lounge was comfortable for relaxing between shows/shopping trips. We would stay again!! Just one small item. The handle on the toilet kept falling off. Meant to report this at Reception but forgot. Otherwise we had a really good experience at this hotel.

We have stayed here before and particularly like the Central location as you can walk out of the door and are right in the hub of Edinburgh. The connection to the airport is so easy as the bus stop is just over the road and you also have Waverly Station and the bus station very close. No lift to reception on first floor.

Best value for money I could find at the time of booking, and I was not disappointed with the hotel once we got there. Breakfast was abundant and hot, and additional bonus of getting corner (window) table is recommended. Staff are helpful, room was very clean. Room wifi strength and speed was really terrific from our room (608). For shopping, especially if shorter trips where you need to be in the heart of the city, hard to beat. One lift, makes for a longer wait during certain times. Also, no lift from ground floor nondescript entrance up to reception on first floor, but was not really an issue for us.

Food was good. Not enough towels or bath mat supplied in rooms. Heating system poor and had to be turned off as it could not be turned down. A broken bathroom sink plug was not repaired until the next day necessitation use of the bath as a sink. Fabric of the rooms was poor and requires refurbishment especially the walls above the electric heaters. Very noisy due to location as windows are not double glazed.

The food was appalling stayed bed + breakfast - breakfast poor quality and very expensive considering the standard of food, the bar facilities small + closed early. Some of the staff rude when passing in hotel lobby or on corridor. I will never stay at this hotel again!

This was our second visit and we feel the hotel website photos give a very accurate impression of the bedrooms. Our one was comfortable, very clean and spacious. We had the benefit of a great view without having to pay extra for it. The location is perfect for sightseeing. Desk staff were generally very pleasant. Breakfast was relaxing and also fascinating, watching tram workmen on Princes Street. We were not aware under hotel policies that the hotel intended to pre charge us an additional £75 in case we were to charge anything to our room number. We assured two reception staff on arrival, that as we were paying in cash for our stay, any extras would also be paid in cash.A Friendly lady over ruled a somewhat unhelpful male member of staff on this point and he was clearly displeased. We did overhear another guest being asked to allow her payment card to be used in the same way.She too appeared to be unaware of this policy. Absolutely minor points - a very high and setback washbasin which meant a small person got quite wet bending over the basin! Pillows were scrunched up into half pillows as the filling was insufficient. Shampoo and bath gel were not replaced.

Clean Hotel / helpful staff / close to shopping and old town as well to buses and mainstation. Matresses were not very comfortable, possibly good idea to replace one or other! Roadbuilders were aktiv throughout one whole night in front of our room! (Staff offered other apartment=thanks!)

The location is perfect and staff are friendly, good breakfaast and very nice view I had baby in stroller and there were lots of stairs before arriving to lobby, but the porter always helped.so I don't recommend it to families with young kids. Rooms were a bit tiny but its fair since the rate is not that high

In the hearth of Edinburgh's New Town. All main attractions, stores and shops close to the hotel. Beautiful scene from our room over the castle and park. Old times atmosphere. Traditional buffet breakfast was tasteful but heavy. There was no wardrobe in the room.

I have been staying at the Old Waverley evey year for the past 5. This year I couldn't sleep with the noise from the street outside. As the hotel wasn't full I don't think any consideration was given to the allocation of a room in a quieter part of the hotel. Noise

The main thing was the proximity to the Playhouse theatre. This is the second time we have stayed in The Old Waverley and can highly recommend it. We paid extra for a Princes Street view and thought it was well worth the extra. Will definitely stay again.

The hotel is situated on Princes St handy for shopping and all the attractions of the City. Although we were expecting a room with a view of Princes St we were allocated a room at the back of the hotel with a view of the back of an office block, we could have changed but decided to keep the room as it was hugh and comfortable.

We enjoyed our short stay.It brought back memories of our stay in 1949 for our honeymoon. By sheer coincidence we were booked into the room next to our room on our previous stay. Happy days My wife found the entrance stairs very difficult as she suffers from arthritis otherwise no problems.
