No view (any kind), a frosted glass window.
The building works that started outside my window at 6.30am
Good food, helpful staff, ideal location, fine view... what's not to like.
Location was excellent to train station and historical sites. Staff was friendly and helpful.
No lift at street level. Had to climb stairs after a long day of site seeing. On-site restaurant was a little high side on pricing.
comfortable lounge bar area to relax with views over Princes Street
Breakfast buffet limited - no fresh fruit, and bread choice between flabby sliced white or brown.
tiny room, very uncomfortable bed, view over demolition site, very over priced have had better rooms in budget motels.
staff were very helpful & friendly. rooms were warm & comfortable
same menu both nights. no tips box for staff
Location was good, food was good also, free wifi as well.
Building beside room was getting demolished and was very noisy resulting in a poor sleep although this was only on the Monday morning
Lovely decor from entering the reception and throughout other parts of hotel. Fast checking nothing any problem. Used Bar great staff very friendly, also rooms cleaned each day.
Just felt some parts of hotel needed some maintenance , ie painting grouting etc but I appreciate this is an old building and will take time to do this.
The staff were extremely helpful especially when it came to sorting out the problems with our room. The location was absolutely amazing and the views amazing from the castle facing rooms.
The breakfast staff were clearly very busy which meant they were very stressed and didn't have time to help. Not the hotel's fault but the building work meant we didn't sleep very well as the work started at 5.30 every morning.
very friendly helpful staff. We could store our bags even after we had checked out. Which gave us time to shop and enjoy Edinburgh without lugging bags about, nice touch.
Excellent location on Princes Street. Pay the extra & get a room that overlooks Princes St but be prepared that it may be a bit noisy. Staff very friendly & helpful.
Breakfast time proved a bit of a problem & the dining room couldn't seem to handle busy times. The staff did the best they could but there were real log-jams at the buffet table. One thing that could help is a better toaster or an additional toaster.
Convenient for everything we wanted to do.
The bed. They need to replace the mattress as it slopes into the middle and is very uncomfortable. The noise from demolition work next door, which will subside over time, no doubt.
We arrived 2 hours before check in hoping to leave our luggage but we allowed to our room as it was ready which was nice. Excellent location and lovely hotel I slept very well although my boyfriend said the bed was terrible and he couldn't sleep
Nothing although a view over princess street would have been nicer
Location Breakfast very nice and all food kept hot Large comfortable bed Staff informative and helpful
Floorboards above room 308 were very squeaky which did disrupt my sleep, however, this is an old building and these things will be very difficult to correct
I thought that the old Waverley was a good place it was clean and welcoming and staff were lovely. Also the rooms were a decent size for the price I paid.
The only thing I didn't like that there was no flow of air when in the room and the air con didn't seem to do anythinv when switched it on.
Food was very good and the service was excellent.
I was very disappointed to be woken up at 7 am to demolition works outside our bedroom window which we couldn't see out through or open as it was frosted glass. The hotel did re accommodate us to a room at the front of the hotel which was very comfortable.
Staff and location
My room had no window due to it being a family room
The staff were helpful, breakfast was sumptous, all in all a pleasent experience.
Check in time was too late.Arrived from London and had to leave luggage in the hotel and kill two hours before room was accessible.
The location was excellent. The room was spacious we had a great view from our 5th floor room
The room was hot and no way could we cool it down as the window did not open I appreciate due to it being on the 5th floor however, some form of safety catch cld be introduced. The breakfast was a bit expensive all be it an excellent selection but one can only eat so much and almost £12 per person is over the top when you can get a lovely breakfast and well presented at Jenners for just over £5
Overall pleased with our visit. Thanks would stay again.
Breakfast was quite drab.
I asked for a quiet room. Nothing was too much trouble. I was shown a possible room and asked if it would suit my needs. It was perfect. For the price this is an outstanding hotel with fantastic location
Spotless clean room & bathroom. Lovely curtains matching bed covers. Cosy room. Close to all shops & Castle. Waverly train station a few minutes walk. Would certainly recommend
Excellent location, staff was helpful.
Too expensive for what it offers. Construction works started very early in the morning right next to the hotel - not their fault, but very unpleasant.
The view from my window it was a demolition site not a good sight for the price of room was very disappointed
