I tried the spa. The pool is 20 m x 5 m and 1.2 m deep. The temperature was ok. The sauna was a 3 person unit that had seen better days. The steam room was out of use. The men’s changing room was disgraceful, looking very tired and in need of the refurbishment which is, according to notices, due this summer. The whole impression is poor. The breakfast meal was bland and tasteless, as was the coffee. The multiple self – operated toaster worked very slowly and looked grubby – unpleasant!
There was no decaffeinated coffee on the hospitality tray in the room. The position of the razor point was poor, I had to stand between the wash basin and the toilet and lean over a shelf. There was no grab rail over the bath.
Free upgrade. I was received very pleasantly and efficiently and given an upgrade to an executive room free of charge. No help with luggage was offered. My room was on the ground floor approached along a narrow corridor that went in a zigzag route to the room that was well signposted. This is pleasantly decorated in cream with red carpeting. One part of the corridor was overheated, another was cold. The public areas seemed clean.
My room was at the eastern end of the building and there was road noise though it was not overly obtrusive, and decreased as traffic lightened in the evening. I measured the room 6m x 4m plus an entrance lobby of 2m x 1m with a bathroom off that was 2m x 1m. The room was decorated in cream with very high ceilings with dark furniture. The bed was king size with a leatherette headboard. There was a desk/dressing table (with mirror over), 2 bedside tables, a television table, luggage unit and a wardrobe with ample hanging rails and a small set of draws. There was also a long fold out mirror. The 32” tv had a freeview channel offer. The bathroom had toilet, wash-hand basin (with mirror over) with a large heated towel rail and hairdryer unit and bath. The bathroom flooring was tiled. The bedroom was lit by 2 table lamps and a ceiling light. There were 2 chesterfield style leather chairs in red with an occasional table. The single window could be opened for ventilation. The room had a single radiator and a trouser press/iron unit.
The room was clean and it worked well. Décor and furniture condition was good. The bed was comfortable and I slept well though the duvet was thin and I thought I was cold during the night. The pillows were on the firm side. Lighting levels were a little on the low side. The chair for the desk was ok. The condition of the décor was good and there were two cushions on the bed. The hospitality tray was only just adequate, the kettle was clean and boiled quickly – the coffee and hot chocolate sachets were...
