De Vere Hotel Oulton Hall  

We stayed here as part of our anniversary. When the manager (Ian Waite) learnt of this, he sent a lovely gift to our hotel room, Thank you Ian, a lovely personal touch. All the staff here are 1st class. A special mention to the charming Christophe in the Restaurant :) Great Gym area with pool, sauna and steam room. Lovely buffet style breakfast, everything one could desire. Another pleasant stay here, our 2nd in 4 weeks. My wife and I simply love this hotel and cannot fault it.

The hotel building and grounds are superb and the decor and furnishings are luxurious. The room size was adequate and the room was well equipped. The sauna, steam room and pool facilities are excellent and there's also a well equipped gym. The location is ideal being close to the m1 and only 7 miles or so from Leeds and roughly the same to the Xscape outlet centre.

Staff were a bit anonymous and I spent too much time at breakfast searching for coffee (the cups were tiny) which was plain annoying - an investment in individual coffee pots would be worthwhile. The orange juice was also low quality - unnecessary skimping in my view for a top end hotel.

its a beautiful place tucked away from the hustle and bustle of central city, very relaxing and self contained, exquisite decor from a time past ....

Me and my wife were far from happy with the bathrooms as we had a chance to look at various within the hotel and the fact that they did not provide slippers as is standard with a lot of hotels of that calibre or even below, besides those two things everything else was perfect!

The relaxing atmosphere in comfortable surroundings. We also like the style of decoration throughout the hotel

In the dining room the waiting staff need a little more training, We felt that they were not attentive enough and when my wife asked that a dirty knife be changed, the replacement was almost thrown at her. The dishes for breakfast cereals did not appear to be very clean. These are minor issues but perhaps would not be expected in a four star hotel.

I was staying at the hotel for my daughters wedding reception . the hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff very pleasant and helpful.. However the bar prices were over priced even for a hotel. Breakfast was very good plenty to choose from .

For the size of the hotel it was difficult to find a parking space .

We got married there so it was nice to return and held nice memories

Due to the great offer, wedding and tribute night the hotel was fully booked however the hotel was under prepared. Not enough staff. The service was terrible and food disapointing. We waited 40 minutes for our starter, butter never arrived for the bread although requested 3 times. Also had to ask 2 different members of staff for a jug of water as that did not arrive and the steak was awful.

A very handsome building with good leisure facilities and Spa. Would visit again if only yo use the pool, gym and have a Spa treatment. Lovely library, drawing room and spaces to read and take afternoon tea. The breakfasts are also very good. Am missing already!

All but 2 of the rooms ( exc the suites ) could really do with being re- furbished. The bathrooms in particular are looking so tired and worn. We did not want to use the bath! No matter how much cleaning they receive ( am sure the staff do their best - bedding etc is very clean ) they shall never to pristine and this is rather unpleasant when you look up close ( around bath and shower screen in particular ). The other issue was that the hotel held a huge work conference during our visit and this took over the entire hotel. All the relaxing areas previously provided for guests were either taken over by banners and projection screens, or were used to dump furniture to accommodate the many business people. The service was also not so good whilst the conference was on as the hotel seemed to be stretched to its limits with guests. Due to some of the comments above, I have to say the management were excellent in upgrading us to one of the better rooms ( thankfully free post conference) for the rest of our stay. They understood and accepted that the rooms were old and tired looking. If they can right this situation, then this shall once more be a lovely hotel and I would recommend it.

All facilities were good, clean and comfortable. The hotel has retained many interesting original features which adds to the over all first impressions of the hall. Breakfast was very good.

The restaurant meals were a little too expensive. Otherwise, there was nothing we did not like abolut this hotel

I liked the history of the place. the facilities were very good and staff were very helpful.

Not having a car was hard as if we wanted to go out we had to catch a taxi. The room service food was not very good

I thought it was excellent and everything including the food was spot on.

Grounds and building

Food and drink was expensive

The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean although the furniture was generally a little tired. The bar, dining room and lounge areas were all comfortable.

The hotel was fully booked the weekend we stayed so the spa/swimming pool was extremely crowded and not at all relaxing. The food at the colf club was inedible and had to be returned - we were offered a bottle of wine at dinner as compensation but it was not a good start to our weekend. We stayed on an inclusive db&b break and the set dinner menu included was limited with very small portions, drinks and extras were expensive eg £4.50 for a pot of tea after dinner!

Very chic hotel ,loved it.

Could do with modern T.V.but still loved it
