De Vere Hotel Oulton Hall  

We have stayed here five or six times now and return because of the location and the fact that the hotel is lovely and caters exactly to our requirements. We came this time with friends to go to the Malton food festival and they loved it too.

The downstairs of the hotel is decorated beautifully and opulently, as are the bedrooms, however I do feel that the bathrooms are looking very tired and could do with a spruce up. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff were on the ball, however check in could have been better and the staff in the champagne bar should not have to order drinks by the number and should be aware of what they have sold out of so that they can advise guests prior to them choosing. The service was also very slow and they didn't bring the water that I had requested. However, this is being extremely picky and would not put me off from returning.

Reception staff didnt know what they were doing, our key cards didnt work, our final bill was mixed up with someone elses. The Claret Jug food was poor, the staff in there were good though, it was pub food at a very highly inflated price. The bathroom in our room was dirty, the coving to the ceiling in the bathroom was mouldy, the cleaning staff were all students, they were cleaning rooms with loud music on The afternoon tea was poor, ham sandwiches made with slimey packet ham, for those prices I would have expected fresh carved ham.

It is a luxurious building in a fabulous setting. We spent 2 hours walking around the grounds, golf course and lake - seeing some beautiful wildlife. The lovely old church is well worth a visit - shame it wasn't open though. The relaxed atmosphere of the champage bar and afternoon tea are decadant and worth spoling yourself to.

I looked at 2 super de luxe rooms before having to up grade to a suite. I felt the rooms were small, tired looking and dark and the beds small even compared with budget hotels like the Premier Inn. Breakfast is only served until 10:00 and many of the items had not been replenished when we arrived at 09:45. The ordered hot breakfast came to the table whilst we were still eating cereal and therefore was no longer hot when it came to eating it. The fresh fruit was mouldy and everything was being removed when I went for yoghurt being advised that it was taken away at 10:15. This could be avoided by quietly informing diners that they had 5 minutes to help themselves to any more food. Inspite of this, the stay was enjoyable and met the purpose of my visit.

Beautiful building and surroundings with most of the staff very helpful. The food and facilities were excellent.

We were attending a wedding that was due to start at 2.00 pm and arrived to book in at 12.30 and explained our situation. I had booked 3 rooms for myself and my family and although I did not expect all three to be ready I thought it might be possible, given the number of rooms you have, to make one available to change into for the wedding. This seemed to be asking the impossible - it was even suggested there were good changing facilities at the Spa - I explained I did not really want to carry all my clothes/suitcases etc over to the Spa changing rooms and back! You did manage to find us a room, for which I was grateful, but this wasn't until 1.20 and we had to rush to get to the wedding on time which somewhat ruined the first impressions of the hotel. I know you do not guarantee rooms being available until after 2.00 but given the number you I thought just one could have been made available to change in.

The grounds are lovely, building is lovely,furnishings delightful. Staff were friendly and peasant and the food was of a good standard.

We did not like the length of time it took to actually book in on arrival. We most certainly did not like the delivery vans at 06.00 hrs. outside our window.... shortly followed by the refuse collection , accompanied by vacuuming in the corridor outside our door!!

Friendly staff. Excellent service. Good food. Comfortable and relaxing. In a beautiful setting. Facilities excellent.

Excellent service and helpful staff. we have stayed at other De Vere's and were impressed by them but OultonHall surpassed them.Interior decoration ,sytandard of food and location all suited our needs.

Lovely building in a lovely setting.

Price of basic drinks such as tea and coffee too expensive for what they are.

Good liesure facilities, very nice staff.
