The room was excellent. Very comfortable as was the en suite shower room. Breakfast was superb. The view from the room window was a brick wall. Old fashioned lift frightened me a little.

-Friendly staff. -Great location- only a short walk to key places (waverley, castle, etc). -Room nicely furnished. -Extremely comfortable bed, the best nights sleep that I've had in a long time. -Nice atmosphere. -The cost to stay was the lowest that I could find in the area on that night (just £57), yet you wouldn't have thought it for how nice the place was. Because of this, I would definitely stay again and will recommend to others. Nothing.

Main advantage is the location - close to both railway station and the castle. Castle is right opposite - at the top of the rock - so we were going there by these hop-on-hop-off buses. And back to the hotel it is easy to walk down the hill. Hotel itself is quite old but cozy. Staff is nice and friendly. Bed was just superb - matress, linens, blankets - all of a 5-star hotel quality. Overall, great choice to spend 1 or 2 nights. Scaffolding. Shower was quite hard to regulate.

I felt the hotel was dated though quaint. Bar area was I need of a hoover and some softer lighting. There had been a murder mystery night on the night I staid. The smell of fish throughout the hotel turned our stomachs.

Very friendly and helpful staff - when I said I would arrive late because of severe problems on the train, when I eventually arrived very late, when I took my breakfast and when I walked out not realising that I had not paid the bill!

Great location, comfort. Price, breakfast Male breakfast waiter clearly loathed to engage with guests. Really spreads a depression over what was otherwise a nice dining room and good meal.

Mixed signals about dinner service... wanted to see a menu for later (at around 5pm) and was told dinner was finished! Apart from that, all the staff were top notch - would stay there every time I'm in Edinburgh, and will return with my wife for a weekend break too.
