Plus points were the excellent staff, and the accomodation standards Didnt get the room booking right first time but were very accomodating about sorting it out, a few minor niggles you would not expect in a four star hotel.

Friendly welcoming hotel in spacious grounds leading down to the river. Nice size room with balcony onto the garden. Birdsong in the morning was a real despite the dreary May weather. Further out from Oxford than I had expected - £10 taxi ride, or an hourly bus service but none on Sundays.

Welcoming and efficient staff and convenient location for Oxford and surrounding countryside. Great breakfast - hot and plentiful. Pool and spa area were extremely clean. No criticisms at all.

The Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hotel is well situated as a base to explore the Oxfordshire countryside From the Hotels description I would have thought the bar staff should have been able to make a vodka martini. The breakfast stopped serving at 9.30 which I felt was too early if you were there for a relaxing break. Although the food in the restaurant was well cooked the menu and presentation seemed very dated

Had stayed before. It's relaxed and peaceful. The ability to use the 'Spires' car park is a huge bonus. The Oxford Thames has a beautiful set of linked buildings and the interiors are totally in keeping. The addition of a TableD'ote menu every evening is a welcome addition (when we stayed before, this was only available at weekends). The quality of this food, presentation etc was very good. Two out of three breakfasts were disappointing. The choice was fine, but at 9.00am on the second morning there were empty serving dishes and plates. We could have asked for a fried egg, fressh scrambled egg or ham I suppose, but we felt that it was the staff's duty to see that all foods were available - and fresh. The food looked and tasted 'tired' - as if it had been sitting around and drying out for a long time. The publicity boasts "a selection of cold meats/cheeses". In reality this was at best 2 choices; never 'a selection'. 3rd day the quality was better. Would be a good idea to have a choice of different snacks and bar food, not the same choice, but cheaper

Unfortunately I was there for a short time only and did not get to appreciate the hotel facilities. However, I loved the beautiful big fireplaces, the little nooks & crannies as you walked from the Reception to your room.

The staff were very good and well trained-everyone we met was friendly. The pool and facilities were better than expected and the bar area was very good too. We found the breakfast greasy and the door handle was coming off our door from the outside making it look a bit tacky.

Staff were pleasant and helpful When we arrived, we were given a syndicate room with a temporary bed. We had booked a standard double with no discounts so found this unacceptable. Hotel Manager kindly supplied a standard double on request....why did we not have this room originally? It is not acceptable to say that we had booked at a busy time....if the room we wanted to book wasn't available, they should not have taken the booking.

We have stayed before so knew what to expect. We visit Oxford 2 or 3 times a year to visit our son who lives there at the moment. Since our 1st stay 2 years ago we now find it convenient to return when required. Why risk somewhere else when you already have already found somewhere you like? A decent sized pool for a smallish hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Good restaurant. It's location is particularly special in its own extensive grounds with the river alongside but the interior design is also excellent. We have been frustrated in the past by not being able to take our teenage son into the pool after 7 p.m. Whilst I understand why it is particularly frustrating if the pool is totally empty!!!!! The lighting in our bedroom was subdued. A business traveller wishing to work is his/her room at night with paper or screen would find it difficult. In addition desk space is very restricted. I don't think they aim at the business market unless other rooms are different.

Excellent hotel. Near Oxford and a lovely old stone building next to the river in Sandford on Thames. We had one of the older rooms which was great with a lovely big bathroom. The breakfast was standard english buffet but the sausages and bacon were a bit dried up under the lights but you can order a freshly made poached eggs on toast or other from the menu which was better. The hotel is just outside oxford so you can get a bus (116/106) which stops just outside the hotel up til 6pm in the evening into town. Taxis cost about £10 each way. You can also walk into oxford along the thames path which takes about 40 minutes but was a bit muddy in parts after the rain. Recommend this hotel

I enjoyed the feeling of being immediately welcome from staff and setting. Design of reception was outstanding. The spa facilities were nice and clean everything you needed available including staff this was really nice as we were away for our wedding anniversary also being foster carers there was a planning involved to get there, so the need to relax was huge! I would stay again maybe try different room next time. Breakfast was excellent service was great and being run by a lady called(I think) Laniyha, she was so efficient appropriate with staff very welcoming and friendly a valued member of staff. I didn't like the noise late evening and during the night people talking outside room, banging doors. Just generally noisy keeping me awake for too long therefore not a great night, very tired next day just wanted to go home. A shame really took the enjoyment of our stay. I also had long black hairs inside my towel! Yuk. My only other comment for our room was it seemed like it needed updating a little was feeling a little tired, like I said maybe try different room next time as didn't look like advert and hopefully be quieter. Menu could have more choice they were all on the heavy side.

Location and facilities and low level building in own grounds The food, tried the restaurant , food was cold and not good value. The staff couldn't speak English and didn't know the menu. Tried room service and was delivered a stale baguette asked the waiter about breakfast and what was available and he hadn't a clue and just said ring and Ask

The hotel was very nice the only problem we found was the resteraunt staff. Although they were polite their skill level was poor. As with most hotels know it seems to be policy to employ eastern eroupeans and as polite as they were they seemed to lack training and skills
