The Palace Hotel

My room was clean and well-presented on arrival and staff were attentive at breakfast time.

Staff were lovely and the hotel was amazing and very impressive

The breakfast was cold and the plug in the bath didnt work properly so the water kept slowly leaking out of the bath. However this was nothing major, and I would stay there again, but would think twice about paying for breakfast and maybe go into the city centre for food.

Hotel rooms seem to be in a need of renovation, ceiling had water stains where a previous leak had been, but not painted/decorated. Had to request a room move, and second room wasn't much improvement. Have stayed at better quality hotels for less.

Staff are always very helpful and friendly. Breakfasts are good. Rooms are clean

Room 251 - Sir frances drake suite is desperately in need of refurbishment. The sitting room is not conducive to sitting because it is only heated from the bedroom and bathroom. Querky, I would say.

The staff were very helpful and professional. It was in an excellent location.

We had to move rooms twice due to the incorrect room being allocated initially then there was a water leak running into the main light in the second room which was an obvious health hazard. The first room was poorly maintaind and although the rooms did get progressively better. At check out our car park ticket wasnt validated correctly as promised on the site and we were also over charged £21.00 for items we did not purchase. This was recinded when I queried the bill.

The architecture of the building was amazing- very grand. The location was close to shops, train stations, sights and theatre. My room was a standard room buut it was huge with two double beds and big armchairs.great bar and restaurant area.

The surroundings were great and the staff very helpful.

I did not sleep owing to other people shouting and running up and down the corridors. The next day I tried to catch up and had to evacuate the building as the fire alarm was set off. I feel the staff need support to keep the general public out. Again the next night I had a disturbed sleep owing to other guests. I was also told that my parking ticket was "validated". This les me to believe that I would have free parking but it was only reduced. £270 for two nights did not offer good value for money. I also had to miss part of my conference as I was too tired.

the ten minute hike to get to our bedroom and the room we stayed in was nothing like shown in the pictures, it was much older and very dated. not modern like the pictures.

The room size.

When we arrived at the hotel the room was cold. We asked could we have the heat turned on. We were informed that it gets turned on at 10pm at night however as it was 4pm in the afternoon they would send up a plug in heater to us. An hour later it still had not arrived so we called reception. They informed us that there was one in our wardrobe. When we checked there was a fan not a heater. We called back down and were told they would send one up to us. Another hour went by and still no heater. We called again and asked for one and were told they would send one up. It never arrived and the heat never came on at all. There was also a bad smell in the toilet. The room size was very good. It was a very dark room with small windows.

Interesting old building with modern facilities and in good location. Very comfortable room and helpful staff.

I had a quiet room.

There was all the time a very unpleasant smell of humidity in the lobby and the corridors. There is no wi-fi and the hotel charges an additional 15£ per 24 hours for broadband use in the room. Given the expensive rate for the room, charging for Internet access is, out of principle, a liberty.
