    Nice location.

The room was grubby and we both woke up with numerous insect bites. Shower was ancient and decor, while I enjoy classical taste and style it appeared to have not been given a fresh coat of paint since the original.

the morbid attraction of a great old place, great entrance hall, high ceilings and all the trimmings.

It did not only look old - in fact it was old and in dire need of far reaching renovation and restoration.

Resturants and staff. Location very suitable close to the Dome.

Noisy celebrations well after midnight. Effected ability to sleep. Complaint made! Lack of air conditioning and limitations on ability to open windows (unusually hot period)

Staff were really helpful. Breakfast was good, beds were really comfortable ,short walk into town.

The pool could do with cleaning and updating also more changing cubicles . Lady's changing rooms were up stairs and any one with a disability would find it difficult to get up stairs ( as my friend who walks with crutches found ) also the stairs when wet from swimmers were slippey.

A very pleasant stay. Clearly a lot of work has been done on this huge building. Excellent staff and nothing to complain of really! Very close to Opera House and a great place to stay for the Buxton Festival

A little bit faded but i was perfectly comfortable.

Our room was spacious and airy, bed comfortable and beverage tray satisfactory. Breakfast was mostly fresh, hot and plentiful.

The room was generally rather run down , paintwork cracked and old, serious damp stains in a corner of the ceiling and clear evidence of a previous leak in the badly stained pelmet. At breakfast the dining room is now entirely self service, and the day we were there it was very busy, very noisy and rather like a huge canteen. Staff were doing their best to keep the food stations full, but the overall experience was anything but peaceful.

The staff were friendly and helpful

Horrible hotel. Smelt of old carpets in entrance hall, wallpaper peeling off, bathroom smelt of drains and had notice like in a school about shower curtain, lumpy bed, rock hard pillows, threadbare armchairs in room, noisy as next to railway station and main road junction, dismal breakfast buffet. Worst place I've stayed in years, for which the charge was £134.00 plus £4.50 parking. When asked by the staff if everything had been alright I pointed out the above, and at least they deducted £40.00 from the bill. Still outrageous for a shabby hotel much in need of refurbishment.

Location for Opera House very good. Parking a plus.breakfasy food good except for one or two items mentioned below. Reception team good. Lounges and bedrooms were cool in the heat of Summer.

A little more fresh fruit would be appreciated at breakfast and a decent cup of tea. Room quite pleasing; carpet and furnishings look new. Ceiling looked dusty.

The hotel was in a good position and the pool was nice

The rooms were dated , not overly clean and boiling hot. On a 30 degree day there were no fans or air conditioning available and as the windows only open slightly there was no air . We also got charged £1 for cordial in a pint of larger , when we were already paying £4 a pint and you actually loose some of your larger I felt this was unreasonable

Lovely old building and good location, friendly staff and good breakfast.

Evening meal in restaurant wasn't good value - quality so-so and very small portions for the price.

Overall location, history associated with the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful

Our room was pretty sparse and tired. The shower head was loose, really bad mattress - just very old all around and in need of serious restoration / update.

We were given our meal and bottle of wine on the house after not been able to get checked in and order food for my young daughter because of the noisy party goers.

Well if you want to be up all night listening to teenagers partying at their school prom then that was the place to be.They should have told us when we booked that there was a such a noisy and busy event on.

staff were brilliant especially Daniel on the desk

very scruffy interior, were told that we couldn't stay in the first room for a second night as the next guest has specially requested it!! He used a wheelchair according to the booking and the room was on the 3rd floor. Can't see why anyone would request that room. No hairdryer, no fan - it was very hot. no refill of water on second day, no choice of tea on second day.

We had a nice large room and enjoyed the pool which was longer than some hotel pools. The hotel was perfectly located for all the Festival venues.

Some of the decoration was a bit tired. Although the breakfast menu advertised smoked haddock and kippers being available on request, they were not, owing to a "problem with suppliers" which we found odd.

We enjoyed the charm of this lovely Hotel. Although its a buffet style breakfast we would prefer to self serve rather than be staff served.

Some of the decor is in need of an upgrade.
