it was clean, comfy, i had more privacy than any other hostels, bunk beds are made out of wood so it's not so disturbing when the other bunk moves
same breakfast every day
Good common areas.
Fantastic breakfast Lockers available, also computers for free wifi access. Wifi was pretty good. Great cheap and cheerful restaurant
Being on the upper floor with a low sloping roof, there wasn't enough room to stand upright without hitting your head. Also, have to walk though bathrooms to get to the room.
1) cheap but has super good facilities 2) location is easy to find 3) delicious all-you-can-eat english breakfast 4) gorgeous english building and interior designs 5) helpful staff
the wifi broke when we checked in the hostel though i can use it, my friends can't. unstable wifi.
I loved the building and the feel of the place. Good spacious and welcoming communal areas and dorm did not feel overly crowded. Good clean toilets and shower facilities.
The self catering kitchen was small but I think that this was because they had their own restaurant which was a pleasant addition, however, the menu was limited (especially for me as I am vegetarian) and there was no veg!
the people, the location, the staff, comfort, the bar and lounge are nice, free internet
They don't clean the beds! no fridge, no kitchen to cook,
Loved the feel of Palmers lodge. The staff were excellent.
curtains have seen better days.
Great location. Fantastic old mansion. Big comfy beds with curtains. Clean. New and modern bathrooms and showers. Fast Wi-Fi. Even thouh there were 18 people in my room, It didn't feel crowded because the room is huge with 2 floors and each bed feels like a small capsule. Great luggage room key :)
Loved the privacy curtains around the bed! That really helped me get a better sleep!! Breakfast was really great, the location is very close to a tube station,
The wifi never worked, and I was told each day that it would be working later that day. That went on for 4 days. Breakfast only starts at 7:30. A little late for people who have tours or need to be going a bit earlier. Even a half hour would make a difference...
Lovely building, great location and friendly staff. Plenty of facilities on each level and a great bar downstairs with cheap food.
The showers have 30 second timers and no where to place your clothes. The room I was in (6 bed) had very little space for your bags. I didnt sleep very well because of three snorers in my room but that, of course, isn't the fault of the accommodation. However, the doors are extremely loud, even when people try to close them quietly the door still slams into it's lock. The other huge negative for me is the 'kitchen'. No stove tops, just a microwave and a fridge with a tiny bench space.
clean nice rooms good breakfast
very very loud neighbours little tricky to find if new in london
Whenever you are in trouble ask for Kinga. She is a very helpful receptionist.
Everything was just great, there're a little problem with the wifi, but when fixed, was perfect.
En-suite room is very basic, cramped and noisy with the communal bathroom next door. wifi access was very poor
Beautiful building. Confortable and private beds. Very close to subway.
Very bad wifi in the rooms.
The building is amazing and placed in a convenient area. The stuff is helpful and do their best!
1)I had to check out the second day and check in again the same day, due to wrong programming/ overbooking(?)(although I had booked more than a month ago, they gave priority to some cases of the last moment) 2)the room I booked was a 100 sq.m. room with 12 beds. However, in my first night I stayed in a room which was hardly 65 sq.m. When I asked the employee about the size of the rooms, she replied that they treat the same all the 12-Bed mixed rooms, no matter of the size. The rest nights the room was much bigger, 80-90 sq.m. So, in general I would say not to take into account the size of the room you have booked 3)During the whole staying the Wi-Fi was not available, but instead there were only 2 desktops. That was a great inconvenience, since you had to wait a lot.
It is classic, nice architecture, nice breakfast, the bed was comfy, the bathrooms are clean and there was a nice lounge with nice antique furniture, i fell in love with the cow chair in the corner.
The staff wasn't that friendly. Expensive. The doors makes a lot of noise.
Granted, I had a private room, but I was impressed by this place. It was even quiet after 11 pm - though I'd been to see a show, so it was about 1 by the time I got back anyway - which is rare for a hostel. I would even consider staying in one of the dorms next time, but I'm pretty fastidious and don't know if that would be for me. Regardless, it's a great property and is easily the best 'budget option' I've used.
The price of the double room was a bit high compared to what was offered. However, it was extremely clean and that's most important to me.
Beautiful building. Good value. Great location near tube station.
Water was cold in morning.
close to tube station; very cheap price; toilet and shower are cleaned very often; breakfast is included; Key card is more safe; Cheap storage for luggage;
Nine beds in one room as three layers;the middle layer and bottom layer is not even enough for sitting up on the bed. So the bed is only for sleeping; Terrible Wifi connetion. Never be able to connect the signal; The 30s timer for shower is too less. I felt it likes 10s. you have to press the botton always for shower;
Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage is clearly a great place to stay. It's cheap, it's situated in zone 2, which makes getting around London cheaper, the subway station is 3 minutes away from the place and so is the bus station. There are also several 24h shops in the neighbourhood, kfc and Subway. The building itself is fantastic - it belonged to Samuel Palmer who was xix century businessman and an owner of biscuit factories all over uk. Inside this mansion we can see renovated wooden stairs, giant staircases, beautiful rooms with wooden beds, each fitted with curtains for privacy. There are never lines to the bathroom (I guess that's because of the fact that there is a lot of bathrooms in this property) and the water was always hot. The showers, the sinks and the toilets were also clean and nice all the time. Wifi was excellent, very fast and accessible almost everywhere. The lounge was fitted with extremely comfortable couches and it was very nice and cosy, but spacious at the same time. To sum up: it's a+ for looks, cleanliness and conveniency... So what did I not enjoy about this place?
I definitely did not enjoy one, very unfriendly staff member. During my stay that lasted 5 days, I had to deal with mean and unhelpful receptionist almost every day. This person seemed to be very busy with her own things and every time I asked her for something - a key to the luggage room or directions on getting around camden - it was a huge deal for her to speak to me. The expression on her face was very judgemental and unpleasant and I was not the only person in my group to notice that. The last night of my stay one of other staff members took by mistake my charger and my bag with food which I bought for my trip because he thought I wasn't in the room (though I was). I got my charger back the same night, but I forgot to ask him about the food. The next day I asked that girl at the reception about my bag, she just looked under the counter for 1 second and said it wasn't there. Obviously I didn't get my food back... Luckily other staff members were nice and fine. The other thing I didn't like was the change in hostel's policy that I wasn't familiar with. When we booked our stay in February, the breakfast was free, but when we arrived we were informed that this has changed and now breakfast costs 4 pounds, which wasn't actually that cheap for us. I don't think that was fair. Tough wifi all over the hostel was guaranteed, my devices couldn't pick up the signal sometimes in my room (women 20 as i recall) which was in the attic at the top of the building. But much worse issue with that room was that there were no windows and no lanterns to lit up the way at night, and the ceilling was very low with wooden bars everywhere so it was impossible to get to the bed and not get hit in the head on the way. I definitely do not recommend that room! But in the other room I was in, which was on the ground floor (men and women 24) light was always on and it was much more convenient, so I guess that was only the issue in my room.
Very clean and safe, beds have curtains and lights so you can have some privacy and sleep in a bit if you'd like. The construction is good too, I couldn't tell if there was someone sleeping in the bunk above me or not. The lounge area downstairs is very nice for hanging out with friends. The cleanliness of the place was great. Every morning there are people running around cleaning everything, and you can really tell.
The staff was less than helpful on a couple occassions. A little far from the tube station and finding it the first time was a little confusing, but not bad. I'd say there again.
Close to tube stations & local shops. Quality for money bar & restaurant. Friendly & accommodating staff. The free wifi, suggested ticket discounts, laundry facilities, tea/coffee facilities & personal safe storage were an added bonus. And above all the dorms were clean & comforting.
The staff, the fact that i have to pay for breakfast, the noise tolerance level
