Had a wonderful stay here and wouldn't go anywhere else! Loved the position, the staff members, the room, everything was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend! I'll be surely back soon
The place: -is as much british as you see in the pictures and in a very good condition for its age. -is 3 minutes from swiss cottage tube station which is in Jubilee (gray) line. Also 5 min from baker street tube station where it connects with bakerloo, cyrcle, metropolitan and hammersmith tube lines so you can reach everything in 20 mins tops. -has great bus connections to important places like camden town, hyde park, oxford street, marble arch and much more just outside of the tube station so you can choose between both ways to explore the city. The reception: -is 24 hours, friendly, kind and helpful -has atm cashier, private lockers for your tablet or other important stuff -has padlocks for your suitcases and lockers from £2 -has clean towels that you can rent for £3 each and you can change them for clean ones later for free if you want to. -has free maps and deals for excursions in and outside London The rooms: -are getting cleaned twice a day and when i say "cleaned" i mean vacuming, changing bed linens (you can ask to change yours for free) and swipe everything with chlorine and when i say everything i mean everything! -are cosy and the beds with the curtains give you as much privacy as you need to -the mattresses are great and the plankets super warm -have one plug per bed plus one for the reading light which you can unplug it and use it (of course you will need an adaptor because you re in Britain) -have big lockers under your bed where you can keep your stuff safe (as for us we puted everything we had inside them and kept the luggages under the beds because you gain more space if you put everything inside them-the luggages dont fit inside them only the small ones) The toilets: -are super clean -they clean them 6 times a day and every monday they do the super duper deep cleaning- im telling you that when you step inside you smell chlorine and other familiar cleaning smells.
The Staff in the kitchen were kind, I woke up late and missed Breakfast was allowed to use the kitchen and make my own breakfast that I
From the beginning It took me a long while to find the Hostel late at night, when I arrived I was highly stressed. During my stay of one night a Set of Keys and my Diary went missing from the 8 Bed Female Dormitory. Told and rung the Receptionist and manager. But it was not found. Very Busy had to wait a long time before was seen by the receptionist to check in Will not be returning.
The premises are really cool, it's a beautiful historical building and the common areas inside are cosy, wooden and warm. The breakfast is simple but good enough for its price. It's very close to the underground station and to bus stops from/to Luton and Stansted airports. Being in zone 2 it's easy and fast to get to Central London. Nice walk to Primrose Hill. In general and despite the things I didn't like it's great quality/price relation, especially in London.
There was a queue to check in despite being past 1am at night (not crowded at all but receptionist took very long). The window in the room had been left open and it felt like a freezer (it was snowing that week), to make it worse the heating was not working and receptionist didn't know what to do (thank God we were 5 in tiny basement room and our own body heat warmed up the room). The website says that every bed has its own curtain but none of our beds had curtain. Luckily we had also paid for the only bed we were not ocuppying to have more intimacy. Our dormitory in the basement wasn't at all as nice and comfortable as the rooms that appear on the website photos. It was good enough for me, but they advertise it more luxurious than it really is. It's decent but not a "boutique" accommodation as they like to say.
The price is really cheap for what you get
Friendly staff and guests, very nice building (hight ceilings), great location.
Endless problems with acquiring a proper invoice for my stay.
Great location Nice staff Free tea & coffee
I got no electric socket near my bed but my friend got 2 And my travel adepter got stolen
Loved my stay there. Perfect location, very nice and friendly staff!
National express bus stop on route to Stanstead airport walking distance away. Easy night bus from downtown to hostel. Great WiFi. Decent bunks, good showers.
Staff are a bit unprofessional and slow. I had to wait a good while before being able to check in and do just about anything. A lot of snoring going on in the dorm room, lack of privacy, no private bathroom...so the general downsides of a hostel
I liked the curtains around the bed . I also liked the bar - restaurant , because the staff was friendly and the travellers also ( talkative : important when you travel on your own ) . I like the staff at the reception because they made it possible for me to change rooms. Awesome!!
warm hostel in the cold winter
Place was clean, good location and appreciated the access to a luggage storage room
The staff were abrasive and a little condescending, really disliked the fact that the smoking area was situated right outside the front door of the hostel and the beds were shocking
I stayed in the 21-bed women's dorm. The hostel was warm, very clean and there was free tea and coffee. All the other guests were respectful so the room was very peaceful and the curtains around the beds made it feel more private. There are heavy wooden lockers under each bed with plenty of room. It was really easy to get to the hostel both from Gatwick and the centre. There is a busy high street nearby with plenty of shops and a couple of cafés doing a decent, cheap English breakfast.
The old victorian building was simply astonishing. It was such an experience to sleep in a dorm with old wooden beams. Nice common room and always accessible staff in the reception. Nice location and overall a positive experience. Recommendable!
We had to pay extra fx for a pad lock, towels and an adapter. We would have avoided this, if it was written explicitly on the website. The shower was on a timer which said 30 seconds, but in reality it was only 4 secs. We got the feeling that it was their purpose to squeeze more money out of the guests.
Good location, the place was clean enough and the staff at the counter was nice.
- Just because you book a "female only" dorm does not mean that in the morning they won't send a man to ask everyone if the lights above their bed works and another to clean the room. - Someone very loudly vacuumed in the room above (hitting furniture and all) at 7am! - One sink for 10 people is clearly not enough.
Palmers Lodge was clean, secure and well located. The restaurants around the Lodge were fantastic!
We had a slight mixup with the billing but it eventually got sorted out. Also, the internet would not connect to my computer and there was no solution for it.
Was only there for a few hours in the early morning really but had no problems. The bed was comfy and having the curtain around it made a big difference. Close to tube and buses, clean toilets and showers.
No curfew! You can walk in there around 04:00 in the morning and staff will still be around to help you out.
The bed isn't king-size and you still share a room with others. But keep in mind that it's £15 you're paying!
- friendly and helpful staff - cheap, huge breakfast - social room - bulding, interiors - free coffee - atmosphere - great location
- in winter in the bathrooms could be warmer - bathrooms are cleaned at the same time on all floors, so you could not use them anywhere throughout the hostel - before check-in there was no information that you should have your own padlock to the locker - so you need to buy one in the reception (£2)
Like always staff is brilliant
I normally dont have anything bad about this place.. but i have one complain. For the past 2 weeks the iron is broken and has not been replaced. As you cant put water in it for steam, its making the clothes black and sometimes can burn the clothes. Can you please replace
I stayed here for over 3 weeks. Here's what I found about the hostel: -Good wifi. Works perfectly before around 5pm, when everyone starts to go online and the connection becomes slow. -Comfortable beds with curtains and private personal lamps. They try to keep the temperature OK for everyone. -Tidy showers and toilets, cleaned every 30 mins. Even those for the big dorms! -Nice common areas: 2 TVs, pool table, lounge with free tee and coffee, restaurant (free salt, pepper, ketchup, vinegar). -Location: It isn't in central London, and you might have to take the underground or a bus to get to the main sights. However, it isn't a long ride and you have bus stops and metro station just a few meters away from the hostel.
-Limited, tiny self-catering kitchen. It has 2 toasters, 2 microwaves and a packed fridge. Enough to store your food for 1-2 days maximum, prepare yourself breakfast and warm up ready-made meals. -Some members of the staff were incredibly nice, while others were even rude. If somone at the reception isn't helping you, just wait until they change shifts and for sure you will come accross a smile eventually :)
Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage is a great hostel, which is good value for money and always clean. My favourite place to stay when I am in London. The building is also something else, adding an extra sense of something special to the trip.
Provided tea coffee in the room.
Staff wasn't helpful. One of them don't even know the room number correctly. Make me have to run down 3 times and didn't say a word for it.
The receptionist girl who speaks Spanish
The nasty feet odor in the room
the hostel was clean and safe; staff was friendly and helpful; wifi connection was good; close to tube/bus station, and it was easy to get to all the main attractions/areas in london. I really liked the atmosphere in the hostel and I would definitely stay there again :)
