A 9-minute drive from Darlington, The Chequers Inn offers well-appointed rooms and a restaurant and bar. In the village of Dalton-on-Tees, it offers free parking and Wi-Fi.
Score from 56 reviews Very good
Food was excellent! good selection and very good value no real ale on tap or bottle which let the bar down.
nothing worth complaining about, will definitely use again!
Very welcoming friendly staff.
We had a room on the road side of the hotel, the road was very noisy.
Clean room, modern bedding/decor and the price via booking.com was cheap! We were in the main pub building rather than the accommodation block, even so we couldn't hear the wedding downstairs.
The heating was on full blast, but the radiators had no thermo valves to turn them off, had to sleep with the window open in February and still too warm really. The shower hose was kinked at the top and bottom meaning we could get no pressure, we just got a 'I'll feed that back' when we told reception.
Staff wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them, clean and tidy
I ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent!
The room food and hospitality were excellent I would recommend this hotel to friends and family
The food was fantastic, excellent portion size and good quality ingredients, well prepared, presented and served by the chef/kitchen staff. The beer on tap was also good, nice fresh, clean crisp pints. Served in clean glasses.
The mattress on my bed had a huge dip in in resulting in a sore back the next day. I did ask for it to be changed or moved room but the staff said that they had no other rooms as they were fully booked and they never had spare mattresses either which they could swap it with. They said they would sort it the following night which they didn't and so I just turned/flipped the mattress over and made do for my 4 night stay. The wi-fi doesn't reach the outside rooms very well at all, so if you need wi-fi in your room for any sort of business requirements then you are snookered unless you use the bar/restaurant area and possibly rooms in the main building. Some of the staff are pretty young and possibly less experienced. I ordered a whisky and asked for a little water and made a small amount gesture with my fingers and the girl said no problem and came back with the glass filled just short of the top with water and asking "is that enough for you". I agreed not to embarrass the girl but made sure I was more clear on my second round.
The rooms and all the public areas were very clean and tidy, breakfast was very nice and staff very helpful
Bar was only geared to frothy beer or lager drinkers ! went up the road and found a great pub that did lovely beer and great food, would have stayed in hotel if bar was better stocked with real beer! disappointed that my request for a ground floor room was ignored, checkout staff told me a room could have been made available for a small upgrade fee (I am awaiting a replacement hip)
Pleasant and helpful staff with a good in-house restaurant
Good value for money.
Breakfast not high Quality. Bed a bit hard. TV connection not very good. No wifi connection in room.
Poor shower facilities Poor staff etiquette Eg Bar staff bringing the bill for you to sign for evening meal, whilst still eating, cooked breakfast put in front of you when eating cereal!

The accommodation was in conveniently located in a quiet location. The ground floor room was spacious, warm and clean. I liked the fact that there was a bath that I requested and that the food was good and available on site.
Comfy bed Large bedroom and bathroom Very clean Really tasty evening meal and excellent breakfast - with very speedy service Wifi in reception/restaurant very good
Wifi in bedroom very weak Decoration a little tired - could do with a face lift (but all very comfortable and clean)
Excellent warm and comfortable room. A very tasty evening meal and a lovely breakfast.
Difficult to find entrance from road in the dark.
Breakfast was good.
Wi-Fi didn't work, rooms need some investment.
Friendly helpful staff, food in bar was excellent and good value. Rooms clear and cosy
Possibly a bit out of town for walking but not a major issue
Does what it says on the tin. Staff very helpful.excellent value for money.has everything that you would need.
My sister and I went up to bishop Auckland for an overnight stay. The staff were so friendly and very smitten with my Saint Bernard. The room was perfect and we were given a downstairs room to accommodate for the dog. Excellent central location for a walking trip.
