The staff were friendly and helpful - the meals were excellent, just as described on their website, well presented and well served. The breakfast was enhanced by the fact that the plates were pre-warmed so the food kept hot longer. There was all that was needed in the bedroom / en-suite bathroom facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. It wasn't actually that we didn't like it, but considerations for future use as we plan to go again. 1) Guests are given an opportunity to choose the time for their evening meal and as we are an older couple it would have been better to pick a later time as earlier meal times have a number of children present. 2) There is an entertainer in the bar on Saturday evenings and whilst she might suit some people she definately wasn't our 'cup of tea' and it seems that others thought so too. It seems a shame that this was situated in the bar area so it meant that others vacated it.

We enjoyed our two night break. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was warm and clean, and the view from the bedroom was excellent. The guests are mainly mature walkers, and there are lots of good walks directly from the hotel. The food was of an pleasing standard, not gourmet, but well-cooked and plentiful, with very speedy service. Drinks in the bar were very fairly priced. I would certainly go back again.

Staff were very accomodating and friendly and an asset to their company, and happy at their work, the atmosphere was warm & inviteing, the food was really good and plenty of choice, location of the hotel was excellant for walking and the great outdoors, yes as one review complained of "squeeky floorboards" very true but on the age of the hotel, "its called character" all in all we'll give it 9 out of 10 & £ for £ its definately worth it

We had a great time here, the setting was lovely with easy access to some fantastic fell walks and the shores of Ullswater. The staff were helpfull and friendly, the room was clean and comfortable with a nice view. The food was very good and the dinning room staff lovely and efficient. The substantial and tasty breakfast set you up for a hard days walking on the fells. We found the hotel excellent value for money and would definitely like to stay again.

The hotel was clean, excellent value for money. The location was beautiful, with mountains surrounding. Ullswater a short walk from the hotel. The hotel is central to the most scenic part of the lakes. The food was good quality and plentiful. I would recommend a stay at this hotel! The odd door banging late evening

Breakfast is yummy! The view/location is lovley! Staff are always willing to help and friendly! The impersonal dinner experience a bit like being on a coveyor belt . If you get given room 217 change it you have a view of a rock and listening to an extractor fan from 17:30!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The 3 course dinner should have been more varied. The Mediterranean vegetables were not suitable for the steak and guinness sauce.

The staff were all very courteous and helpful. The food at dinner was excellent, but could possible do with having some plainer meals to choose from as well for those who struggle with rich food. The bar area is pleasant and the prices charged are what you can expect of a hotel. The evening meal seems to be very rushed. You have no sooner finished one course and your next is arriving. There was a powercut during our stay, but no-one came to inform us of what was going on or how long it was expected to last. The lack of WiFi in the bedrooms is disappointing as there is very limited mobile phone coverage and the price of a phone call from your room is a bit excessive. At breakfast it would be nice if toast was provided from the kitchen, as bread kept getting stuck in the toaster and all you could smell was burnt toast, also there are no sweeteners provided for your hot drinks.

We entered the hotel a polite, friendly lady gave us our key and told us about the hotel and what could be provided. The room was clean, warm and comfortable with ensuite, television and tea facilities. The food was adequate and staff were efficient. The breakfast provided full English and cereals, juice ect. The bar was comfortable and had real ale. The area is beautiful. We walked up Helvellyn and had some fantastic views. We also went on the Ulleswater steamer. There are shops nearby which sell local craft ware. When we left the hotel and gave in our keys we were asked about our stay and if we had any problems.

Excellent food. Well prepared and well presented. Dinning Room staff very efficient, helpful and pleasant. The location is exceptional with lake and mountains immediately at hand without having to drive to them. Although we payed for a more expensive room our room was very small with no where to sit other than on the bed! Our response to the question below is 'no' only because of our disappointment with the room.

The walks from the hotel were our main priority, but it turned out to be a most enjoyable holiday. The staff from the bottom to the top were very courteous and obliging.Meals were delicious,we were there for 10 days and never had the same meal twice and the waitresses never kept you waiting and never left finished plates on the table they were cleared immediately No wonder most people we spoke to were on a return visit ,we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The food was excellent. The whole hotel was really warm and comfortable and the coffee and hot mince pies served in the lounge were a lovely touch and most welcome after returning from a 10 mile hike. If I had to make one negative comment it would be that the evening meals felt a little rushed with no time between courses. However whilst we were there the hotel was extremely busy and I realise this must be necessary to ensure everyone is able to eat at a reasonable time.

It was a very comfortable and well run hotel in a brilliant location. The staff were very attentive and meals were served promptly. Very comfortable lounge to relax in and bedrooms were a good size. We thought the drinks were a bit on the expensive side and limited draught pumps.

Location was excellent for the fells; within walking distance to key routes. Staff excellent and have pride in their work, many spoke English as a second language. Dinner Bed Breakfast excellent value includes 3 courses and unlimited coffee in a seperate lounge, The food was simple and adequate after strenuous walking. Signs off recent refurbishment and modernisation. Overall a confusion of styles with some areas looking tired. The lounge lacked soul and was filled with identical small fireside chairs, had the appearence of a rest home

Fantastic location - lovely views from hotel room. Friendly staff. Good food incl. Veggie option. Although the evening meal was lovely, you are rushed through - but I think it is because so many guests take the evening meal in the hotel.

Very helpful and friendly staff at a hotel in a wonderful location for walkers. Great value as the price was inclusive of dinner. The food was generally good, but the vegetarian main was not imaginative. The dining experience made the stay feel a little bit like a package holiday. However, I would reiterate:great value!

“As soon as we entered Heidi's Lodge, we knew we would enjoy our stay there. It was welcoming and cosy and the staff were very friendly but not intrusive. We were in Room 4 which was very pretty and quaint. We did have to remember to bend down, so as not to bang our heads on the beams as we are both quite tall. There was a little balcony with a lovely view of the hills. The bathroom was spacious and had under floor heating and a splash screen television which was a novelty. We will stay there again and I recommend it.” Kay, Pennington, Ulverston |
