Health and safety. No bulb in bed side lamp, No light in shower, No seal in bedroom fire door Ivy growing through windows preventing them opening and closing. Trip steps in bar area with poor lighting. After waiting an hour meal very poor, a bad advert for Marco. The kitchen staff were more interested in sitting out the back smoking, what made it worse we were on our way to a cruise with a Marco restaurant on board!!!
This is the perfect retreat . The staff were totally amazing and totally friendly and helpful . Duncan and Sue looked after us and gave us 5 star treatment , nothing was too much bother for them . Big thank you for Duncan checking us in and looking after us at the bar all weekend , and a special thank you to Sue who looked after us as well at dinner and breakfast . A great thank you to her for the dogs sausage and the tip for visting Lacock village , we have her to thank for that great trip . The hotel is beautiful not only outside , but inside too . Out room was very spacious and immaculate . It was great to find such a lovely hotel of this category that actually allows dogs in the bedrooms and bar area . Our dog was treated just as good as we did . The breakfast was lovely , great choice of either the traditional full English , or other hotel specialities which we did try . The dinners were great too , can't fault it . If I had to criticise , which I wouldn't . I'd like to see more desserts on the menu , but that's me being greedy . Our only regret was , we didn't stay longer . We will be back. One again thank you Pear Tree Inn , and thank you Sue and Duncan for a great weekend and looking after us all . We will see you all again .
A bit more choice on desserts menu
A quirky, characterful and very comfortable room. Everything you needed including a robe. The restaurant menu was very limited offering no starter menu. However there was a nice complimentary salad with lovely crusty bread. We both chose a rump steak which was beautifully cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed. Very good sevice from the restaurant manager.
Nearly missed the restaurant as not very well sign posted. General approach and gravel carpark a bit untidy. However we felt the garden really let the place down. Very overgrown with tatty parasoles. Very disappointed and felt it let down the high standard of the restaurant. Needs a good makeover.
Standards have collapsed from those that I experienced many times before MPW acquired the Inn. Was the best restaurant in the region - now very ordinary. Shower pressure appalling, perhaps it always was but the food and service was always an attraction. Unlikely I will revisit which is a shame.
Poor state of accommodation, during period of heavy rain the roof leaked outside our room in corridor, inside our room by the bed, in bar area. No apology for leaks
You cannot fault the location but that is about all
First room no 5 was grubby, curtains dirty at the bottom, room tired and cheaply furnishers! The whole place is in desperate need of tender loving care - the car park is full of weeds, the bushes and gardens overgrown, the inside is so dark both in the main areas and the bedrooms. The tables are sticky in the bar from n to being cleaned properly, the place smelly like a dirty mop has been used to clean the floors. The service although polite is poor due to one girl at the reception, serving drinks and waiting on the tables!Apparently the Manager was in a meeting and appeared half way through the Dinner service. The Menu is very brief with not much skill involved. The starter was seasonal salad with sour dough bread. It arrived as three half avocados on a plate - everyone seemed to be served the same... The fish and chips - chips greasy and peculiar long flat cut, the fish looked like it had been warmed up in the oven - griddle marks on the batter. The mushy peas were fermenting - chef said it was the vinegar!! A truly ghastly experience. The place should be closed down and thoroughly overhauled!! This does not reflect well on Marco Pierre White, nor The Wheelers brand!
The food was absolutely excellent, and a beautiful setting sitting in the garden having a reasonably priced drink surrounded by pear trees away from the road and the car park. It was good value for money and can't praise highly enough the quality of the food. Simply amazong.
The main lady waitress (I think part manager) was fairly sultry. Her serving us at dinner was like we were the inconvenience - service was slow, took a long while for our drinks order to be taken and all came with a bit of a mood. Also disappointed that when checking out, she put our first round of drinks on the bill. We had arrive at 11 am the previous day and paid in cash. When challenged it was amended easily, but no apology, and simply "I couldn't remember if you'd paid or not so put it on the bill". When having breakfast I heard another couple have that same conversation with her. Just not ideal.
Breakfast was excellent, did not have dinner so can't comment.
Room No 2 Very dark due to overgrowth of climbing bushes outside. Bathroom lights over shower almost non-existant. Duvet too hot, better if there was a summer duvet available. Iron was burned so baldy and ironing board not good enough, cover did not stay on!
The service, the atmosphere and the food.
The young manager we met at the beginning who was delightful. The very personal collections of art and the dining area which looked onto unspoilt and natural grounds. The food was delicious, those red peppercorns at breakfast..yum
James was on his own, checked us in, got drinks, fab meal...he could not have been more professional and accommodating. A real asset to the pub
woman next morning for breakfast who was incredibly rude
Lovely location; nice rooms; good restaurant and bar area; excellent staff. Dog friendly. Good breakfast
Not much light in the bathroom
Bathroom was dirty
Service bit slow at dinner
Relaxed and friendly, fantastic food at a reasonable cost. A gem.
Nice location, nice room, staff welcoming, food reasonable, bar area pleasant.
Windows in the room were very small and lacked a decent view. The main disappointment though was the restaurant. Staff, who seemed disinterested and the lack lustre food. Expectations were high at a Marco Pierre White establishment but the taste didn't really arrive, the menu (or the menu billing really) was complicated and unclear for residents, and the staff had to be asked to explain (i.e. they didn't volunteer the explanation). Breakfast portions were slightly too small (in my opinion) and the addition of herbs and pepper spoilt a 'full english'.
Lots of potential. Room quite nice and food was nice (but limited)
Staff not on top of cleanliness. Gardens not kept tidy, grass and bushes need to be trimmed. Glasses and dirty ashtrays left out from night before. Radio on in bar and restaurant doesn't create the right atmosphere.
The place had a lovely tranquil feel about it. the staff were friendly and with a smile which is hard to come by nowadays.Would have loved to eat in the garden but weather not good.Still huge dining tables with a lot of space in between.Food was great. As the saying goes you get what you pay for.
Rooms could do with a little more of a dust but nothing major
Breakfast was outstanding Staff seemed very pleasant
Noisy fan in the bathroom kept me awake for an hour ... Really unpleasant. Room was very very cold Really unpleasant smell of bleach in the breakfast area
problem in kitchen, long delay to receive food
The cleanliness of the accommodation and the friendly and polite staff
Disappointed the same menu for both nights and told by other guests the menu has not changed in recent months did not expect this from a Marco Pierre White restaraunt
Bathroom very small
It was à quiet sort of place with no screaming kids.
The extras with the meal that were charable.
