Location, staff, quality of breakfast
The narrow steep stairs the bathroom was challenging for over 60s no hand rails and raised platform toilet was grubby under the rim.
ambience, room, breakfast
Very traditional English hotel, but all modern fittings and standards. Excellent
we liked the location, the history and the generous breakfast, as well as the comfortable bed.
we had asked for a light bulb to be replaced in the bathroom, but received a non committal response and no service thereafter for that. Some personnel should be asked to smile more and try to listen
The hotel was in a good location and the staff were friendly.
Our room was small and there was no bath available only a shower.
Location and ease of access to the town; friendleness of staff; individuality of the room as opposed to the standard boring style.
Bed a little hard for me, but otherwise superb facilities.
Beds were very comfortable, well stocked tea, coffee and hot chocolate with delicious cookies. Room had character but had all the modern conveniences aswell. Breakfast delicious. Very convenient for shops and rail station. Can't fault it
Restrained, straightforward decor in room, good furniture, fantastic building. Reception staff happy to accommodate my bicycle in the shed.
My request for parking via booking.com never got to the hotel, or it did and they failed to act on it. Street parking was very hard to find. Staff said it was easy. There was some MasterCard muddle (not available online so had to do it manually).
Shower was hot and powerful.
Being charged to park at hotel. Being charged for breakfast. Not being able to park for one night due to them having a wedding taking place, which I think is disgusting as we've paid to stay there. Will not stay again!!
Beautiful building and garden, the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is very well placed. Other reviews had commented on the small size of some rooms. Ours was small, but perfectly formed.
Location ideal for exploring Lewes but quiet . Comfortable and good breakfast.
excellent food Clean Friendly staff
room quite small and couldn't open the window
Lovely building and decor in public areas, pretty view from our room (15), very good breakfast for a large group
Single beds pushed together, noisy plumbing, extractor fan not working in toilet, bedside light nearest the door not working. £110 is on the high side for the size of room and facilities
Comfort of my room Excellent food and friendly staff Great location in centre of Lewes
The fact that there isn't a lift and most of our party were on the 2nd floor did cause a slight problem. Although staff were generally willing to carry luggage upstairs.
Staff appropriately attentive and helpful. Lovely environment and decor. Fabulous breakfast Will definitely stay again!
Really comfortable bed, friendly staff, the room was spacious and clean. Very warm room and tasty chocs!
The bathroom is tired, leaking shower and mouldy in the corners, staff clearly tried their best to keep it clean but it needs replacing.
Central location. Comfy beds.
Climbing the stairs. Chilly room. Haphazard breakfast service.
Right in the centre of Lewes so you just walk a few steps and you're in the town. Liked the original house, where we had our room as opposed to the annex.
Staff friendly but could improve on service, eg our breakfast order was forgotten. A better parking reservation.system would help. We had booked a,space in advance but when we went out in the evening and, came back, there were no spaces.
The location , the cosyness and the bubble and squeak for breakfast
The steps to go up to room 17
Breakfast was amazing and staff v helpful and friendly
Small room with no hairdryer, no shower curtain, no fridge, no biscuits and no real milk. This is more the standard you'd expect from a £70 a night b&b but this hotel is twice that!!
Food was excellent.
Window rattled in the wind.
Location is good and staff were attentive. Breakfast was really good.
The Hotel is in need of some refurbishment and it was hard to see why it had a 4* rating at the time we visited. We had room 16 which is up in the roof. It was very small and when we had removed the fan, ironing board and bag rack from the wardrobe so we could hang clothes, there was even less room! The bathroom, probably because of it's low ceiling and poor ventilation had mold. The sink and toilet weren't clean either.
Lovely old building.was given a historical fact sheet to read .found it very interesting
Didn't like the old window rattling all night. but I think we stayed on the windiest night ever
The staff were pleasant, the location good and the breakfast good.
THE BEDS WERE DIABOLICALLY UNCOMFORTABLE. REALLY DISGRACEFUL. SO HARD. WE HAD TO FOLD THE DUVET UNDER US TO TRY AND SOFTEN IT AND WE STILL HAD A TERRIBLE NIGHT!!!
Lovely peaceful room with a large comfortable bed and great view. Excellent breakfasts and good service.
