Everything about the hotel was good. Friendly staff, lovely Manor House, good food, nice room, fantastic grounds, although it was too wet to explore them. The Peacocks and Peahens that roam the hotel are fascinating, but their cries in the early hours of the morning, e.g. 2:00 and 4:00am made for a very disturbed sleep, a big shame.

Set in beautiful grounds, Pendley Manor retains an old-world elegance while managing to provide services with modern efficiency. Rooms are comfortable and of a reasonable size, and the bar and dining room offer good service in a relaxed setting. The staff were helpful and friendly without being too familiar. Some of the bar furniture is rather shabby and needs to be replaced, and the menus are a bit limited.

The rooms are a little rundown - but the staff more than made up for this. Attentive, immediately responsive and very accommodating. The friendliness and professionalism of everyone was extremely impressive and deserves commendation. Right from the bar waitresss - who in spite of a busy room - ensured my infirm father got his food ahead of eveyone else. Congratulations - I would come again for this alone. Accommodation a little bit jaded - but good value

We enjoyed our stay and found it to be good value. The food in the restaurant was good but it was necessary to order from the a la carte menu on the second night as the table d hote menu which had only one meat one fish and one veggie choice did not change. Some up dating of rooms would improve the stay especially in the bathroom and the replacing of old tv sets would be a good idea. Having said all this it was still an above average stay in a comfortable room with a nice view.

Great staff and great food Drinks were expensive, £11.70 for a house red and pint of lager is a bit rich. We had a suite and I expected a sumptuous bed, unfortunately the hour long massage I had in the spa was undone by the rock hard bed that night. We could also hear very frequent rumbling mechanical sounds throughout the night, like a generator, and every few minutes what sounded like a tuba, wallpaper was also peeling in our suite, not really the standard I would expect from a suite.

This country house included beautiful peacocks in a lovely setting. It has an imposing grand staircase and information on previous owners is exhibited in the corridors, so a very interesting place to me in terms of local history. Spacious rooms. Very helpful reception staff followed by a wonderfully tasty lunch and hearty breakfast meant it truly exceeded our expectations. We were recommended by family in the area who have used it for family events - and they were right to do so. Nothing to complain about really, but the loo paper in our suite was quite hard really for those of us used to the soft life! The ensuite bathroom would undoubtedly have benefitted from some sort of ventilation fan.

We stayed at Pendley as were due to walk the Ridgeway to Princes Risborough the next day. It's the perfect location as the Ridgeway is 5mins away. The hotel is also walkable form Tring Station. Overall the hotel is ok value for money and has pleasant facilities (bar, restaurant, nice grounds) but the rooms are a little tired. The food at the restaurant was actually very good (I live in London and eat out regularly). But for some strange reason the serving staff seemed to disappear at 9.30. My table and the one next to us were left wondering who to speak to, to order dessert etc. Service was better the following morning over breakfast. Would recommend staying there for people wanting to walk the Ridgeway as we did. Slightly tired rooms, low pressure shower, patchy service over dinner.

I liked the Manor because the location was good for me, the facilities was what I wanted. The staff of the hotel were very good. They were both polite and helpful. It was very clean and comfortable for an old building and the grounds were beautiful. It was a very enjoyable stay for me. Although the staff were very good I would not recommend the Restaurant. The food was awful. The menu was too specialised. Although the food from the kitchen for room service was good the food for the restaurant was not. I would recommend you to stay at the hotel but eat your evening meals out.

Very good breakfast to set you up for the day It was a nice location but had a certain shabbiness about it especially the bathroom We didn't really have long enough to use the spa facilities and the day offer was not available on our stay. Dinner was very costly

The hotel was charming and in well kept gardens. The staff were very friendly and relaxed. The room was large enough and with attractive furniture which suited the age of the building. We had one dinner in the hotel and we chose the set menu and it was excellent. We had a pedicure( man) and a facial ( lady); they were good. The total cost was a very pleasant suprise ! Highly recomdended.

The location of the hotel was amazing, Considering we only live around 25 minutes away and just wanted a nice short break away from home without treking out too far. However, It seemed like we were miles away! It was so tranquil and peaceful and the room was more than we could have expected. Very luxurious and comfortable. From the minute we arrived the staff we very helpful and courteous. Overall a lovely experience and I have already recommended the hotel and will definitely be staying there on a regular basis for nice short getaways! May be a little up date here and there, but generally a lovely building with a nice warm friendly feel.

What a beautiful location in fantastic grounds. The peacocks roaming freely were a delight and I loved the fact that there was a conceige at the hotel, which seems to have been forgotten about in some hotels. Everything was right when we checked in and the staff were very nice. The breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I had had for a long while. Drinks at the bar very expensive and not worth having. £10 for 2 drinks is extortionate!! The rooms do need updating. Although the size of the rooms is fab and my 3 hyear old daughter had her own double bed but the rooms need coming into the 21st century and having flat screen tv's etc. the rooms just need to be re-decorated and tidying up.

Food was excellent, although as we were one of the last for breakfast, the bacon and sausages and sundries like mushrooms were a bit cold as the heater flames under the warming pans had been allowed to go out. To their credit they happily cooked fresh eggs for me. At dinner they were happy to do a half portion for my daughter, who is not a big eater, so gold star for that. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and the bedroom was generally well cleaned and provided for. Usual problem with hotels is they can never seem to clean the sealant around baths and showers and there is so often a line of black mould. I'm a bit picky about that and this was no exception. Not bad, but as with all things its the detail that counts. In the bedroom, the tv was one of the old CRT types with a pretty poor picture - time to get into the 21st century, methinks! Flatscreen and freesat should be the minimum really. We ended up watching a dvd on my laptop.

The day staff were friendly enough but the all-too familiar surly eastern European barman on the evening we were there reminded me that customer service still means different things to different people. There's 'Old World Charm' and then there's just plain 'Old'. Pendley Manor seems to have a mixture of both and for the price, is at the very top end of what I would pay for a hotel in its location and state. Repairs or alterations have been half done, with fit and finish coming a poor second. When moving taps in the bathroom or hinges on sash windows, no attempt has been made to hide the old location, which is a shame. The hotel has an air of 'mend and make do' about it, where previous or current owners are running it to a very lean budget.
