Location. Friendliness of staff.
Cost. Lack of service at breakfast. Slightly tired room in main house.
Service good (except at breakfast where we were alongside a huge party). Fab location - wonderful views.
Noisy room (above the kitchen back door and bins etc., plus just above smoking point - yuk!
An impressive house set in extensive grounds, with a good bar and restaurant. Scenic views of rolling countryside all around.
My room in an outbuilding was a little tired looking.
Very nice comfortable room, with good views across countryside,Very helpful and friendly staff, good food and local wine.
Comfort and atmosphere was good, nice room, staff went. out of their way to fulfill requests.
Slow service at evening meal, although good quality and well presented when meals arrived.
The location of the hotel and room with 4 poster bed was excellent.
The service and the evening meal was not up to standard. The steak was tough and gristly (had to ask for a steak knife) and the steak pie was as though it had been made a long time and warmed up
Friendly although completely amateur staff
Breakfast offered from 0745 but did not happen - needed to leave at 0815 but day wrecked as no kitchen staff until 0805
Stunning, quiet rural location but only a stones throw from Ross-on-Wye & a quick drive to Hereford. Great friendly staff willing to share local information. Great food. Looking over peaceful fields of sheep & cows after a hectic day sight seeing was wonderful!
Shower was tiny with very little water pressure BUT the massive bath made up for that!!
Stunning views Peaceful location Friendly staff Excellent food Own vineyard with nice wine. Thoroughly recommended as a peaceful country retreat, well placed for exploring some beautiful country.
Could have been advised in advance of visiting speaker which altered dinner arrangements on last night - but was sorted out.
wonderful old building with great views but still had comfort. Great value for money with the breakfast included.
Room was a little tired
outdated and poor decor - paint peeling off walls bad smell pool closed for refurbishment locked rusty gate outside bedroom got incorrect toast at breakfast, breakfast not ready on time
Size of room was fantastic, bed very comfy and breakfast very good. Location was excellent and staff very friendly and efficient.
The room looked a little 'tired' and in need to a freshen up.
Staff were excellent and very friendly, great food although lited menu.
Most unfortable beds in the world, superior room and honey moon sweet were both far from it! Had to ask to move rooms due to terrible bed but second was no better, broken telly on first day wifi broken for all but last day, light bulbsissing broken kettle in room and fixtures falling off walls. Overall disappointing for a £100 per night hotel.
Lovely location; excellent cuisine; bar, lounge and dining room were comfortable and welcoming, as were the staff.
Our double room was the last one to be booked so they were probably scraping the bottom of the barrel. Its one window was so high up that we couldn't see the view and there were little things like a drawer that could not open and a bathroom that needed TLC. It was a very hot weekend and no fan was available.
beautiful location, pleasant staff, comfortable beds
courtyard room & bathroom especially, need updating
Not informed that a Proms party was being that evening which went on beyond midnight, right under our bedroom window. Would not use again.
The bed was too noisy!
I loved the old country home feel of the hotel. It was very clean. The staff were efficient. I enjoyed being able to walk a fair distance around the grounds to get some exercise and going to sleep and waking up to the distant sound of sheep. We used the location to explore the lovely Wye valley. The room itself was very comfortable and spacious with views to the distant hills and an enormous bed.
The internet worked in the lounge but not in our room.
The location and views were brilliant
The room we were given was very dated, old fashioned furniture, very outdated bathroom suite, lights not working, breakfast was until 9.45 we arrived at 9.20 only to find there was barely any food left under the hot lights and what was there was very dried up and inedible, staff did not want to know.
Location, & ambiance . Great Food and the local wine.
First room we were shown was in the annex and found it a bit tired! We're given a room in the hotel it's self and the different's was amazing.
Nice dining room, bar and terrace and character in old house. Fantastic grounds and views.
Breakfast was slow service and unhelpful moody staff. Food not as described and dried up
Room, location, price all reasonable.
breakfast service too slow, staff not too interested.
The setting-lovely peaceful rural surrounds. Pleasant staff on reception and nice food when it arrived.
Noisy plumbing in surrounding rooms, bubbling and gurgling! No one in the bar to serve drinks in afternoon. After dinner (7.30) I said the TV was not working and was told that someone would look into it. At 10.30 I gave up waiting and went to sleep. Breakfast was 45 mins late being served.
I loved the hotel grounds and the views from the restaurant are stunning! The food was excellent throughout our stay and a great choice on the breakfast menu - particularly for a vegetarian. I really enjoyed the Hotel's own wine. Pengthley Manor is ideally situated to explore the Forest of Dean and we will be going again!
Our room was tired looking and had a 90s feel! The bathroom suite was avocado in colour and very dated! The floorboards creaked both in the bathroom and the bedroom.
