Nestled on the northern edge of the Forest of Dean, centrally located in the small market town of Ross-on-Wye, Raglan House is a charming Grade II listed Queen Anne building.
Score from 108 reviews Fabulous
The hotel was amazing relaxing the bedrooms a dream we ended up in room 1 with a four poster bed which was amazing comfortable Food was excellent dinner and breakfasts all staff were more than willing to make sure our stay was good. Would and have recommended this place to everyone since coming home. Well done guys best place we have stayed in for ages and we travel around England a lot
Character, food, breakfast was excellent, comfortable room, value for money
Wi-Fi only worked in communal areas, not good enough for business use
Staff very helpful and pleasant. Room upgraded great value for money and wonderful breakfast menu, will definitely stay again as we travel to Wales at least 3 times a year to visit family. Beautiful location and stunning views .
Sadly we cannot say anything positive about this hotel as the negatives far out weighed the positives. We had booked to 2 rooms for 2 nights, it had said on Bookings.com that it was 'dog friendly' however what it did not say was that the 'courtyard room' which was allocated to my daughter and our small dog, was that the courtyard resembled a small industrial site with small business's operating, parking for minibuses outside the window and next to the hotel laundry! If that was not bad enough the door to the room was rotten with peeling paint and inside there was a strong small of damp, the windows were also rotten and covered in mildew. When we expressed our concerns to the hotel /Duty Manager she was indifferent and explained that the cost of running such a venue was very high so upgrading was limited!! I will admit that the hotel had rung us previous to our visit to say that one room was in 'the courtyard' however what they failed to mention was that it was of a 1 star standard! We could not stay there and immediately checked out! Regards from a very unhappy Bookings.com user.
Good setting and grounds. Friendly staff.
"Pub quality food, not "fine dining" as specified as mentioned in their literature.
Was just a bed for the night as picking daughter up from Newport following day. Late arrival (after midnight) was no problem. Friendly, efficient staff and a fantastic breakfast menu. Room was comfy and modern bathroom. Hotel grounds and surrounding area very picturesque. Will definitely stay again.
Not a deal breaker but wifi limited around hotel.
location no traffic noise great food
noise from guests upstairs broken toilet seat hinge, missing shelves, slack wash hand basin tap
staff were genuinely nice and helpful. Food was excellent.
Friendly staff despite having to deal with an overran lunch time function
Wi Fi provision
Excellent location, lovely building, well appointed bedroom, thoughtful 'extras', attractive restaurant, well-cooked and presented meals
Absence of promised wifi. Staff desperately in need of customer care and fine service training. Poor lighting in bedroom Water damaged ceiling in bathroom Limited although well-priced menu Modern fittings in bathroom not completely practical
Grounds, parking, freshly cooked breakfast but (see negatives), bar food quality, character. friendly and helpful staff. massive bed, quiet room away from the events going on in the main areas both nights.
Disappointed that the main restaurant we used on the 2nd night had exactly the same menu as the bar the night before - used to be more 'fine dining'. Good food though. Likewise the 2nd day's breakfast was buffet unlike the 1st which was cooked to order. No razor socket in bathroom. Shower rather than bath in our room. Our friends had a bath but the bathroom hadn't been refitted like ours.
The location The grounds
The squeaky bed The dirty glasses in the restaurant The wait for a drink at the bar The wait for breakfast in the morning Understaffed
We were able to stay with our two dogs and there was no extra charge. When phoning to check details, the staff were lovely, as they were when we arrived. Being in the courtyard made it easy to take the dogs in and out. The beds were comfy and there were extra blankets in the wardrobe to top up the duvets if needed. The cooked breakfast was great, and as it was included in the price a real benefit.
Our room (31) in the courtyard was basic. A spacious twin with lots of space for the dog beds, but the blind on one window and the curtain on the other, both needed attention so they would hang properly. There are watermarks on the tiles round the lovely large bath. This room was not in keeping with the attractive rooms in the main house.
Nice place to stay. A bit different to a premier inn style place. Very good breakfast included. Will stay again
No real ale on sale. Other than that small issue I was very happy.
Unprofessional staff. Smoking in front of guests then not washing their hands afterwards before serving drinks from the bar. Also we were put off eating as the room smelt of smoke. Complacent service. Left next to another guest's full English leftovers for about 20 minutes. Left in the TV room in the dark! Flies crawling all over the sugar bowl. Poor attention to detail. Room had flies crawling all over the window & we had to be moved. However, the room maid was excellent. Really nice decor but the staff as above and the ambiance let the Manor down dreadfully. Would not stay here again.
lovely views, nice breakfast. great room, sky sports in the lounge.
A bit flaking paint in bathroom and hot water only.
Beautiful location, Clean and comfortable room, Polite Staff. I had a pleasant stay
Location Staff were helpful , but we nearly always had to ask for something , which should have been provided anyway ,bearing in mind the perceived quality of the hotel
The annexe - rooms 22, 23 and 24. 22 was cold , tired and very unwelcoming. We complained and were up graded to a room in the main house. Much better , but little things missing. 4 poster bed creaked terribly. Lack of senior management available - staff seemed inexperienced and lacked leadership. Food was Ok , but no wow factor
Those of you expecting what is promoted by the website are in for a disappointment. The hotel is no longer run solely as an hotel. The business has been acquired by a company that trains ex soldiers for medical support work overseas. The hotel is therefore principally accommodation for trainees attending courses on site. When there are spare rooms they are let to private customers but service and standards are appropriate for course attendees.
Grand building and great views. Nice bar and restaurant (though food perhaps a bit average).
Room was a bit shabby ( in annex not main building). Staff a little unhelpful when I queried the bill. Overall okay
the charming old buildings, the gardens and landscape. The restaurant and superb burgundy wine
Open fire in the bar Hotel character & location
No wifi in the rooms Some impersonal staff Airing of staff pay problems in public.
Nice room ashame about the bathroom!
Bathroom was dated, dirty, cold and only one light was working in the toilet so couldn't see anything while having a shower. The restuarant was a joke and apart from being served a taist less warm soup starter which I said I wasn't happy about which was ignored,, smash potatoe and when i mentioned this the waitress gave me cheek.I complained once I paid and the manager swore it was not smash even though there was unmixed powder in it! I had 10% off but I eould of had a better meal down McDonald's with better trained cooks and cheaper! The room was nice but cold and bathroom dated and unlit. If your going to stay there DONT eat in the restuarant!
The staff were very helpful and food excellent. Lovely position and views
Disabled room was across courtyard, it couldn't be helped but if it had rained at meal times we would have got soaked. We understand that old buildings have to do it this way but a pity
remote location with fabulous outlook, realistically priced wine and food, comfortable rooms, good walking. Ideal for lovers of past times.
limited meal menu, confusion about pricing at check out but this was resolved quickly and amicably
