We enjoyed everything about our stay at Pengethley Manor. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful, with large four poster bed and splendid views across the country side. We ate two nights in the hotel and the food was excellent. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful and so well presented too, really set us up for the day! There is a great walk from the hotel down to the old church then up around the top. A great relaxing haven and would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. We shall be back! Thanks to all at Pengethley for making our stay really special.

The Wi-Fi was pretty indifferent, and my room was really cold, despite having the heaters turned up full.

The setting of Pengethley Manor is beautiful. The warmth and comfort inside during cold weather is welcome. The staff are accommodating and the evening meals are commendable.

This was our third stay at Pengethley and we love it. The staff are friendly and helpful and sociable. The hotel grounds is in a stunning location with well-kept gardensand flanked by some superb national trust walks and countryside. It has a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere and I have always felt very much at home in all rooms including the dining room where, it can, in some hotels be overwhelmingly formal.Pengethley manages to raise above this, without losing any of the professionalism, and have always put us at our ease. It's a bit like home-from-home. The hotel is tired looking and although I think that adds to its charm there is evidence of the need for some definite updating. On this visit, the shower did not work and some of the wall sockets and light switches did not work In all the rooms I stayed in, the hairdryers were ineffective. The quality of our meals was a bit hit and miss. We had a poorly put together breakfast with a very underdone (4 minute!)boiled egg and equally underdone fried egg. Our croisant was overcooked and so hard it was inedible. Surely the chef would have noticed this before delivering it to the table. The milk was tainted by something it had been kept in the fridge with on all three of our morning breakfasts. We brought a dog with us This was in my orginal request and passed on to Pengethley manor and also mentioned in an email sent to them by Booking.Com (I received a copy) but when I phoned I was told I was in the main house which does not allow dogs. If the hotel was full, this would have caused us a last minute serious accommodation problem . .

The room size - large double room with an ante room lounge and good sized bathroom. Great proportions. Very nice dining room and good food both for dinner and breakfast. Staffing is minimal at the hotel and the staff seem to work very hard - but were very pleasant and nothing seemed too much trouble. Do not stay in room 3. It has a heating unit or blocked pipes which were emitting interimttent noise throughout the time of our stay. We both had interrupted sleep to a point of giving up on sleeping very early. Really disappointing. We reported it to staff and hope they have resolved this.

We were allocated Room 1 and were delighted to find it contained a very comfortable four poster bed and the room itself was a generous size. There were one or two minor points (which one would find in most hotels) but overall we were very pleased. The bathroom was clean ie. shower head and bath sealant were in good condition. The setting was magnificent and the location suited our needs as we were on our way to the Grand Slam game in Cardiff. The table d'hote also offered good value for money. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Only stayed one night and found absolutely nothing to complain about.

Very friendly staff. Great location and a stunning Georgian Manor with lots of antique furniture and paintings etc. amazing views from the hotel across expansive countryside. The bed was very uncomfortable, the breakfast was just ok, but nothing special. We were originally put into the converted stable block which was in in need of updating, we were put into the main house when we asked if this was possible, but I would have been extremely disappointed had the hotel been full and we would have had to stay in the annex with no view.

The Pengethley Manor Hotel offered fantastic food and service, even though it was very late when I eventually arrived for dinner (9:30pm). At least there was free WIFI in the room, which was a bonus. Not being able to find it initially due to problems with Google Maps showing it in the wrong location (which looks like it has been corrected). My room was not in the Manor, but round the back in a series of converted barns, houses and flats, and when I was able to find it (there was no room number on the door) mine was clean and tidy, but certainly in need of bringing up to date. Breakfast was a tad disappointing, with a limited choice of full English, and a few tinned fruit and cereals, with fresh tea and coffee.

Lovely quite country location where the staff do their best for you The place is tired. The owner is not on site and it is a shame that such a beautiful country house is not brought up to its potential.Having said that the staff do their best to look after you.It is clean and tidy but my room in the annexe clearly has not been decorated in a very long time.

If you like old world charm and old house to go with it, this is for you. We loved the atmosphere, creaky floorboards, high ceilings, ancient decor, few antiques where needed, spacious dining room, excellent staff, service and food. We stayed in the main house so cannot comment on the other accommodation. The 30acre grounds lulled you into a morning or evening stroll.

The location is superb, the staff are great, very clean hotel, great english breakfast. The bedrooms were not very warm could do with sorting out, we stayed in room 5, friends stayed in room 3 and they had the same problem. Also the bar needs more selection of drinks.

Been there before but in summer. Then, I liked the location, the food, the staff and the elegance. But not this time. It is a hotel for a relaxing fine weather break, not for a winter overnight visit. I did like the half price room charge, which is why I chose it. You get what you pay for. Room was freezing cold. They put an electric heater in while I was at dinner but didnt switch it on, so still cold at bed time. The hotel is old and tired. The only staff I saw were reception, who also served at the bar and stoked the fire, and the waiter who was surly, never spoke to us, even when he served at dinner. The evening meal was expensive at £20 for a poor quality offering. The light in the en suite bathroom was not working. You said do not complain, so I am just telling you what I didnt like about it, but I was expecting more for a hotel of the reputation that I remembered. My Sat Nav would not recognise the post code so I had difficulty in finding it in the dark. Reception said others had made the same comment. They had not done anything about it.
