Its location. Receptionist was very helpful. Standard of decor, needs some tlc. Some staff quite remote in the way they dealt with people. Food was not hot. Ordered a paper for first thing only to find not there and no reason given other than someone else must have taken it which means your process does not work. Bedroom was supposed to be a superior one but apart from a little extra space, nothin superior aout it. Breakfast was late starting and no explanation of how it worked. Service during evening meal very slow. Overall rather a disappointing stay, was ideally situated for our needs but would not revisit or recommend to others.

It is in a beautiful location and it was very quiet which is important to me. The staff were reasonably helpful as I needed some pain killers. They also arranged for a 6.45 am breakfast to be brought to the room which was useful I was staying in an annexe across the car park from the main hotel, which was misleading, as the picture showed the main hotel as an old fashion manor house. The beds were comfy but the decor was very dated and in need of a good revamp. Not suitable if you have difficulty with stairs as they were quite steep and narrow.

The Wi-Fi was pretty indifferent, and my room was really cold, despite having the heaters turned up full.

Having stayed previously, both myself and my staff at different times, I have been impressed. This time certainly not. Breakfast had menus on tables after breakfast room opened, service very slow, in fact no lights on in reception or lounge area until 6-50 am. On checking out the guy on recep uttered not one word to me, he was doodling on a green post it pad. Not one word once I had paid the bill, no thank you or goodbye. Where is the lady(on maternity leave??) who makes your stay very pleasant and who is a total professional. Too many kids and not enough grown ups?. However, I would stay again due to countryside and hope this experience was a one off

Lovely location with great views. The food was ok, not great but tasty enough. Following on from other similar reviews, I stayed in the annex & apart from walking to breakfast in the rain (which is not my idea of comfort & fun) it was disappointingly run-down & reminded me a little of student digs when I was being shown to my room. The room itself was clean but def needs some updating and due to the age of the property, the floor boards were very noisy. This meant that even when the people above me were just walking around, it sounded like a herd of elephants - not great at 1am :-( I do think people should be warned if they will be allocated an annex room when they book & that they should be cheaper than the main house too. General feeling? - Disappointed - it could be fabulous with some tlc.

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Pengethley Manor. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful, with large four poster bed and splendid views across the country side. We ate two nights in the hotel and the food was excellent. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful and so well presented too, really set us up for the day! There is a great walk from the hotel down to the old church then up around the top. A great relaxing haven and would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. We shall be back! Thanks to all at Pengethley for making our stay really special.

Been there before but in summer. Then, I liked the location, the food, the staff and the elegance. But not this time. It is a hotel for a relaxing fine weather break, not for a winter overnight visit. I did like the half price room charge, which is why I chose it. You get what you pay for. Room was freezing cold. They put an electric heater in while I was at dinner but didnt switch it on, so still cold at bed time. The hotel is old and tired. The only staff I saw were reception, who also served at the bar and stoked the fire, and the waiter who was surly, never spoke to us, even when he served at dinner. The evening meal was expensive at £20 for a poor quality offering. The light in the en suite bathroom was not working. You said do not complain, so I am just telling you what I didnt like about it, but I was expecting more for a hotel of the reputation that I remembered. My Sat Nav would not recognise the post code so I had difficulty in finding it in the dark. Reception said others had made the same comment. They had not done anything about it.

The location and views were fantastic. Breakfast choice was very good, freshly cooked to order and plenty of it. We had a lovely room in the main house with stunning views over the countryside. Staff were friendly without being pushy. Plenty of free car parking. We will return.

The room was clean and comfortable. The food served at dinner was very good. Service was very slow at dinner, with an apology from the staff. Service and quality was poor at breakfast. There were problems in the en-suite bathroom where a shelf fell off the wall while we were at dinner. Some tiles were loose and fell off the wall remote from the shelf. Later in the evening there was an annoying sound which was found to be the central heating pump fighting the thermostatic valve on one of the radiators. Not what you would expect from a superior room at additional cost. No discount was offered, when reported on checking-out.

the view is all I can say is worthwhile we wrote on our last stay that we would give them one more chance as it is local to where we have a business but yet again a waste of time and money. we will not stay again or recommend to colleagues. will not add further comment as we will not use Pengethley again

Main part of hotel seemed nice but we were in out building, very cold. Hotel staff were pleasant though especially girl on front desk. Bathroom very dark and room too cold but perfectly sufficient for one night. Did not make it clear whether breakfast was included, later found out it was but had not been told

The location is superb, the staff are great, very clean hotel, great english breakfast. The bedrooms were not very warm could do with sorting out, we stayed in room 5, friends stayed in room 3 and they had the same problem. Also the bar needs more selection of drinks.

Country manor house, quiet relaxing location but near to both Ross on Wye and Hereford. Duvet cover on bed had a stain on it. Would have been nice to have had a real ale available at the bar, choice was poor.
