Standing high above the Wye River, the Royal Hotel has fine river and countryside views. It offers traditional cuisine, free on-site parking and bedrooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 455 reviews Excellent
In the heart of the Wye Valley, this traditional English country Inn overlooks the River Wye and ancient Goodrich Castle. It offers a modern Restaurant Grill and bright, airy rooms.
Score from 475 reviews Very good
Situated in the most picturesque street in the market town of Ross-on-Wye, this 14th century inn maintains many of its original features, including oak beams and a large stone fireplace.
Score from 142 reviews Very good
A charming Georgian country manor house, Castle Lodge overlooks the pretty River Wye.
Score from 112 reviews Good
Breakfast was excellent the first time but the next day was smaller, but was still good. A problem in the room was resolved v quickly - impressive. Bill presented at the end of my stay; unusual & therefore v welcome.
Bath panel was broken, didn't look right for a hotel of this stature. Not all the light bulbs in the corridor to the room were working or were not fitted - odd. Wi-fi didn't work in the bedroom - annoying.
Nice surroundings friendly staff
Staff very you but friendly and helpful
2 night stay. Superior room. Room freezing cold, pillows rock hard. Very tired We eat 1st night. Not gourmet menu which was fine.had burger and chips and ribeye steak. Steak £21 so much fat and gristle. Burger shocking. My wife said Burger king better.food was terrible. Eat out 2nd night. They did deduct 50% off food, but really the chef has no idea how to cook and certainly wont go back. The room very tired.
Friendly staff, good evening meal breakfast better second day when help youself
No easy chairs in room asked for an email response but not received
All a bit dated and we got stuck out in the courtyard which was a random converted house that looked it was used as an old persons annex or something
Good was amazing
Radiator in our bedroom didn't work. Aesthetically it needs some work, walls peeling with signs of damp.bathroom in court rooms need sprucing up as it looks dated
Beautiful location, pet friendly, excellent breakfast, comfortable room and decent sized bath.
Dinner menu was a little uninspired but food was acceptable.
Wi -fi, excellent food, very good value for money
Bed wasn't comfortable
Pengethley manor is an amazing place to stay its luxury room at affordable prices. Food is amazing staff are Fabulous. By far our favourite hotel nothing yet compares
This hotel is excellent, third visit and just as good as the last time. Staff are very helpful, we asked to move room so we had a view of the wonderful grounds and this was dealt with promptly and efficiently. Room was spacious with a great bathroom. Lovely and warm and most importantly to us total peace and quiet. Restaurant was excellent for evening meal and breakfast.
Only thing was pillows were are a little hard but that's all
The staff are very friendly, the food was excellent and the location was lovely.
The pillows!!! Such a lovely cosy bed but the pillows are like bricks.
Had an excellent deal on this hotel. Quiet location. Accommodation was good. Clean and comfortable. Spa bath did not work and wifi in bedroom poor and intermittent. Staff were very good and welcoming. We had both the evening meal and breakfast and were pleased with the choice and quality.
If you need wifi in the bedroom the signal is intermittent at best. Spa bath did not work
Cold room and bathroom. WiFi not working in room.Stronger light needed in bathroom.
Booked last minute and it was very good value, lovely setting and room was very clean. Would definitely want to go back soon. Breakfast was very good too!
Nothing it was a lovely hotel.
Because we got a winter deal, it was excellent value for money - £59 for bed and breakfast for two. Good food, especially breakfast, though rump steak at dinner was somewhat tough. Thought £17 was a bit steep for a bottle of Argentinian malbec, but it was very good.
Wi-Fi didn't work in room #6, but fine elsewhere. Room rather cold, because radiator on window wall and behind curtains. Lovely spot, but several miles from Ross, so had to eat there if one wanted a drink with dinner.
Great staff lovely room Good food Free upgrade Would stay again
Need some sort of lighting outside. We arrived in the dark and could not see a thing in the car park. We had to use the light on our phone to make our way to the entrance. Wifi does not work in the room.
2nd time here, but this time stayed in the seperate accommodation block, not the main Manor House. Service was still excellent but room was nothing special. Good value.
Room was lovely. Nice size. Nice view and bed was good. Nicely decorated. Breakfast was very good. Plenty of parking. We went to Ross for an evening meal, and went to Hereford for the day the day after which worked out well. I appreciated a phone call a few days before our stay to tell me there was a Christmas party going on the night of our stay and there may be some noise until midnight. I could hear music from the bathroom but the bedroom was quiet and we slept well.
The bathroom door didn't shut. Let alone lock. There were 3 big flies flying around the room, thankfully they didn't keep us awake. The wind picked up in the night and the windows rattled loudly. The taps in the sink and the shower were ice cold (the immersion switch was on) however the bath water was hot, so decided to have a quick bath before leaving but the jets didn't work so couldn't have a jacuzzi bath :-( in hindsight I could have complained about it but we were leaving that morning.
The bedrooms were excellent plus the bathroom.the staff very helpfull food very good.would stay again
The lounges were a little dull could do with brightening up lighting poor the rest was good
The hotel was amazing relaxing the bedrooms a dream we ended up in room 1 with a four poster bed which was amazing comfortable Food was excellent dinner and breakfasts all staff were more than willing to make sure our stay was good. Would and have recommended this place to everyone since coming home. Well done guys best place we have stayed in for ages and we travel around England a lot
Character, food, breakfast was excellent, comfortable room, value for money
Wi-Fi only worked in communal areas, not good enough for business use
Staff very helpful and pleasant. Room upgraded great value for money and wonderful breakfast menu, will definitely stay again as we travel to Wales at least 3 times a year to visit family. Beautiful location and stunning views .
Sadly we cannot say anything positive about this hotel as the negatives far out weighed the positives. We had booked to 2 rooms for 2 nights, it had said on Bookings.com that it was 'dog friendly' however what it did not say was that the 'courtyard room' which was allocated to my daughter and our small dog, was that the courtyard resembled a small industrial site with small business's operating, parking for minibuses outside the window and next to the hotel laundry! If that was not bad enough the door to the room was rotten with peeling paint and inside there was a strong small of damp, the windows were also rotten and covered in mildew. When we expressed our concerns to the hotel /Duty Manager she was indifferent and explained that the cost of running such a venue was very high so upgrading was limited!! I will admit that the hotel had rung us previous to our visit to say that one room was in 'the courtyard' however what they failed to mention was that it was of a 1 star standard! We could not stay there and immediately checked out! Regards from a very unhappy Bookings.com user.
Good setting and grounds. Friendly staff.
"Pub quality food, not "fine dining" as specified as mentioned in their literature.
Was just a bed for the night as picking daughter up from Newport following day. Late arrival (after midnight) was no problem. Friendly, efficient staff and a fantastic breakfast menu. Room was comfy and modern bathroom. Hotel grounds and surrounding area very picturesque. Will definitely stay again.
Not a deal breaker but wifi limited around hotel.
