Cheap and cheerful. Don't expect luxury. Very clean room. Very friendly staff. Breakfast more than adequate with friendly and attentive service. Room door didn't lock properly! Could be pushed open.

Lovely welcome, ideal location for Southport Theatre. Strict no smoking policy (fine because we don't smoke) however room smelled of cigarette smoke so much so that I could smell it on my clothes the next morning. Need modernising. Big window from internal corridor made room room light to sleep. Needs blocking off.

Good rate. Close proximity to show venue (ie.. Southport Theatre). Friendly/helpful and informative owner and staff. The Full English brekkie. Relaxed and homely atmosphere. The name Penkelie. Some would say it's in need of updating, but having a chat with the owner this is underway/ on-going. Part of me finds the decor homely and quaint.

The breakfast was very good, it was served quickly and in a friendly manner. The decoration and furnishings were old fashioned and 'tired'. The Penkelie needs modernising and brought up to date.

My husband needed A&E hospital treatment during our stay at the Penkelie. The staff were wonderful with help and advice on how to get to the hospital, extra pillows and just making sure we had everything we needed and that our stay was as comfortable as possible.
