Blaenavon is home to the Big Pit National Mining Museum of Wales, situated on the site of Big Pit Colliery, a real coalmine that ceased production in 1980. The museum offers guided underground tours, which begin with a descent into the mine in the lift via the 90-metre mineshaft.
Alternatively, you can explore the Brecon Beacons right from the front door. Guests are welcome to explore the farmland surrounding the main house, which adjoins the open land of the Brecon Beacons National Park. You can explore the beacons on foot or via mountain bike, as the farm has a spectacular ERB (Endurance Research Board) mountain cycling area on National Cycle Route Number 8, which runs directly from the farm complex.
