The way in which the historic significance of the building (base for RAF during the war) was blended with up to date facilities. Public rooms were fresh and bright, bedroom had modern feel.
I lost an earring in my bathroom sink and their staff found it and sent it to me in the post!
Loved the history of this old building everything about this hotel is excellent would definitely visit again
The lighting in the drawing room in the evening was a but stark would have been better with softer lighting
Lovely old fashioned hotel with an interesting history. Warm welcome, helpful staff and excellent restaurant meal.
Room was smaller than anticipated and the bed not very comfortable
Old-fashioned ambience - style and historic connections; Attentive staff, particularly in restuarant Value for money
Over-intrusive musak in bar/lounge. Don't have problem with some light background music but how about some classical music which matches the ambience/decor?
Public rooms really nice ambience . Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nothing to dislike
the high standard of everything and everybody there, plus the connection with the wartime RAF gives youi huge kudos
Impressive entrance and interesting Dam Busters memorabilia. Good food and service in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast.
Executive room was small with ordinary double bed (4ft 6 ins and creaky). Very basic small bathroom. Chiller unit in the bar below kept us awake as it switched on and off. On reporting our disappointment to reception the next day they were unapologetic and not really bothered.
The Hotel was excellent, comfortable quiet room, lovely grounds. We ate in the restaurant and the meal was very good. Very enjoyable stay.
Loved atmosphere and open fires. Views were stunning.
Food was average but pricey. Bedroom carpet was stained and bed and bedding needed replacing.
Excellent staff Nice decor Love my grounds
Some bedrooms need a refurb (but are still clean)
I don't know if it would be possible but we would have liked to have eaten from the bar menu in the main dining room. The food on the bar menu was more to our liking on the evening we were there.
lovely Marue Curie event to attend as a customer but first time as a trader and was brilliant well organised, felt more like a pamper than work
Very friendly and helpful staff.
The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating
The hotel itself was very tired. We ordered sandwiches for lunch, which took an age and once they arrived wished they hadn't. Wafer thin ham slapped between 2 slices of tired bread. Promised plenty but didn't quite deliver. We mentioned to the waiter we thought the sandwiches were appalling, to which he apologised then tootled off. It took about 10 minutes to figure out how to sort out the shower and get that working, which then resulted in 'warm' instead of 'hot' water.
Beautiful quiet location, set in wonderful park land. Nothing to much trouble for staff hence the great service. I have stayed here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed .
Slight quibble in thinking the restaurant menu was a bit limited although the food was excellent .
The ambience of the hotel and it's beautiful setting/gardens.
Peaceful hotel..beautiful grounds and room..squirrels playing in the garden in morning and the staff veey friendly welcome
Breakfast a little greasy...ok but could improve
The staff were friendly and very accommodating. I wanted to have breakfast in my room and they went out of their way to organise that for me. The room was lovely with a super en suite. A great experience all round. I would highly recommend it.
The shower did look like a prop from a 1950s sci-fi movie and after much faffing about I did have a cooler than comfortable shower!
The bedroom was a little cold
Love the character of the building and it's history. The gardens are super.Staff are very attentive.
Some of the rooms were looking a little bit tired. Our room was ok but another couple in our party had a room that needed a make over. The carpets in particular were very stained.
The hotel was lovely and full of charm an character. The Dambuster Bar was quite moving. Have to say we did see workmen arriving with tins of paint to refresh the tired areas!
The room we were given overlooked the carpark. We did mention it to Reception who offered us an upgrade for an additional £30 per night. I did not use the hotel towels as I felt uneasy about using them as they did not look or smell as if the had been freshly laundered. There was also a note in the bathroom about leaving used towels in the bath and unused ones on the bath rails.
Food and surroundings
Bit noisy in the early morning from the kitchens - staff whistling etc
