The location and the restaurant food was excellent too.
It was very hot in the hotel so didn't need duvets!
The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They were obviously very proud of their hotel and were keen to tell us it's history. The breakfast was delicious. The grounds were beautiful too. We sat out, enjoying a pint of Lancaster Bomber looking out over their impressive garden. Just lovely. Must stay longer next time!
When I had a problem the duty manager,as soon as she was aware, found us and put it right. It would have been easier for her to leave it as we were checking out.Well done!
The connection of this hotel with the RAF especially 617 Squadron during WWll is strong. The hotel is a splendid Tudor/Jacobean, built early in the 20th century, set in beautiful grounds. It has old world charm and modern facilities
Nothing to dislike
Loved the building and grounds the staff were very happy and helpful.Breakfast was very nice good value for money. Would loved to return for another stay
Shower was not very forceful and basin was very slow to empty but these were the only down marks I would give so all in all nothing really to be unsatisfied with
Lunch when we arrived then afternoon tea with our company stroll round the grounds and finish with a lovely evening meal.
Cannot think of anything
Location and the overall "feeling" of the hotel.
Bed was only a standard double - not a king and very hard. Room was just in need of some TLC.
Slightly faded luxury which is 100% acceptable in the surroundings. Very good rooms, and excellent dining. Wonderful grounds. An excellent base to visit local golf courses and the many aviation museums in Lincolnshire, especially BBMF and East Kirkby.
We were lucky enough to stay during the final weekend of the visit to the UK of the Canadian Lancaster bomber. The flight crew were staying there and we got an unexpected flypast of both Lancasters for the last surviving UK Dambuster crew member who was visiting. Very atmospheric.
Gardens were kept beautifully.
Parts of the hotel looked rather tired.
The public rooms are comfortable, full of atmosphere and furnished in keeping with the Petwood heritage. The grounds are superb. Our celebratory meal was excellent but the wine was a bit on the expensive side.
Our bedroom was clean but rather small for the overnight fee of £116. The carpet needed refurbishment. 'A bit tired' as they say on the TV
The setting , the staff the ambiance of the hotel .
The menu needs to change daily, I would not have liked to be there for a week with no change of choice, far too expensive ,some parts of hotel need a refurb , the shower in our room took a lot of mastering to switch on and even harder to switch off , very disappointed considering the charge for the weekend.
Very friendly, helpful staff and excellent food.
A hairdryer is supplied but there wasn't a socket near any mirror, minor I know but slightly annoying.
One of the best hotels we have stayed at, from the staff to the gardens and the 617 history, we could not fault any of it. Wish we could have stayed longer
Leaving Petwood and going home
The location The grounds The food
Perhaps could do with some refurbishment
Nice gardens and well looked after .majestic building
Room including bathroom clean , but could do with a revamp
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great.
The bed was very hard and there was a feint musty smell in the cupboard.
As ex RAF aircrew this was a bit of a pilgrimage for me and I am grateful to the owners for preserving part of our aviation history.
In danger of slipping into the "faded elegance" category and some areas would benefit from a little TLC
The room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel has a lovely historic atmosphere with the WW2 memorabilia. The breakfast in the old Officers Mess was superb with quality local ingredients.
Location, history and food. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Room décor was very dated, but clean. Shower was extremely poor and weak. The mattress on the bed was extremely worn and uncomfortable, the springs could be felt and I had an extremely poor nights sleep - I also heard other guests complaining about bedsprings!
The sense of history - Petwood hosted the officers of the RAF Dambusters Squadron (617) as their billet and the bar they used has been preserved with many mementoes. Also the location - lots of great golf around
The location; the atmosphere; the history; the comfort; the luxury; the gardens, the building, the menu, the staff, the large bedroom with a sitting area overlooking the back gardens and grounds, plenty of hot water, I could go on and on ...
I don't think there was anything I didn't like, other than having to leave!
Everything, a beautiful piece of history, unique and different. Comfortable, spotlessly clean, friendly, excellent food and you can feel the history ooze. Gorgeous gardens and plenty to see in the area, far better than some of the 5* hotels we've stayed in! Do your research on the place before you go, you will love it!
Nothing, I hope no one very tries to 'modernise' this place, it would ruin it's beautiful character completely.
The bed was hard and so we had an uncomfortable night.
comfort and catering and a beautiful building full RAF memerabilia
taps switching themselves on in the middle of the night in room 311
