The bar was very nice and the staff very well mannered. The bar food was excellent and good value for money. In the restaurant, upon sitting down, 15 minutes is a long time to wait before being offered a drink before returning for a order. You should also think about something on the table to nibble whilst waiting such as bread sticks, olives or even just nuts in a bowl.

The renovations the hotel is doing are just lovely. The first night we were in a room over the pub-very loud but only until midnight or so. The breakfast eggs were too wet. (You asked.) The hotel is advertised as in St. Austell but really it is in Charlestown.

Rooms were clean, comfortable, good location, bistro was reasonable. Overpriced. Officious notices everywhere - even one telling you not to put your suitcase on the bed!

Complements to Chef for Tasty, seasonal food both in restaurant and bar - excellent value for money. Helpful and very polite staff in hotel. We found the information leaflets in the room very useful. The music from the pub next door could be heard a bit in the room on Saturday night - although it didn't go on too late.

We stayed for two nights over Easter, and since our room was a bit small for the three of us, we were upgraded the second day at no extra cost. Great treatment by the staff. The hotel caters mostly for retired British couples, as I guess the rest of the town. Not exceedingly exciting a place, I have to say.

Newly refurbished room, great breakfast, very clean everywhere. Flexible eating, bar, bistro or restaurant and good choice. Fantastic location. Noise from bar on weekends didn't stop at 11.15pm as advertised. Noisy bathroom fan, glass shelf above sink prevented you leaning over the sink to wash your face. Room small

Great location and lovely to have some bracing sea air before a lovely breakfast. Dining room has a good view over the harbour. A sea view room would be nice but we don't like to spend too much time in a room anyway. If too wet or windy there is a comfortable lounge to relax in. Restaurant very good albeit a little overpriced. Hope to stay again some time. Current refurbishment curtails an afternoon snooze! Soundproofing could be better but not a major factor.

We were upgraded and had a wonderful sea view and stunning en suite. Full English breakfast was fabulous! Nice idea to have food next door and be able to charge to the room.Lovely location for wandering around and walking across the headland.

Location location location; larger than you might expect, very professional, very friendly A small harbour village within spirited walking distance of Greater Metropolitan St Austell; immense character and charm, superb seascape, astonishingly friendly local people, good value for money - I think better than nearby Mevagissey on all counts Restaurant good but slightly premium, included cooked breakfast good but unspectacular Every one of the staff I met was, without exception, genial and extremely friendly, without any apparent signs of Tourist Fatigue which I anticipate must build up as the season progresses Avoid Room 15 - the Alcatraz Suite - which is, shall we say, "less favoured" than some of the other rooms

Wonderful location. Friendly staff. The main restaurant looked a little overpriced so didn't try it. The Bistro was the total opposite so didn't try it!
