Hotel in a good position near to the roads we needed to use and near all the facilities we required
No face cloths whenever we go to stay in hotels where it says towels we have always been given face cloths so annoyed that we had to go and buy our own Did have to walk a long way to our room
Near to our destination. Clean. Comfortable bed.
Very tired decor. Hard to find staff. Reception staff at time of leaving not especially interested. Very noisy main road and windows that couldn't be said to fit.
The guy in the bar was great!
When I arrived to check-in, it tool 10 mins to find someone. Checking out was exactly the same. Frankly, not good enough
Friendly staff, good breakfast, it was only a short walk to city center
Getting tokens to exit car park was a bit of pain, decor looking a bit tired.
Friendly staff, good food, location but looking a tired building.
The stairs a hotel like this should have one to much nice late at night from diso.
Value for money
The staff treated me like a part of their family, that counts for a lot with me. Room service was excellent.
I was first in room 115 and found the noise of traffic sometimes unbearable.
The breakfast and bar area were very good.
Bathroom didn't have full toilet paper. Room not properly clean a bit musty
The staff were helpful and polite. The location was ideal for me. I would definitely stay here again but just order food in or eat out. If I liked fish, there was a variety of otions available, so this may interest other travellers.
The lack of vegetarian options on the menu. When I finally managed to agree that the would make me a sandwich one of the slices of bread was stale. It was clearly the end slice in the loaf whcih had gone a little hard.
Good location, charm and history together with a comfortable room make this hotel a good choice when visiting Birmingham.
Great location for City Centre access. Most of the staff were multi-taskers and very helpful. The old original part of the hotel was characterful and comfortable. Plenty of free parking
I had booked a ground floor twin room as I was travelling with my 83 yr old mother who has difficulty with stairs. When we arrived we were told our room was on the ground floor..' just go through the double doors, up the stairs, across the landing, down some steps, round the corner, down the stairs and room 2 is there on the ground floor...'. If we had difficulty we could get our car, drive round to the back of the hotel and wait for a member of staff to open the fire doors, but they would have to lock them again once they'd let us in. We opted to do the trek through the hotel which we had to do each time we left or arrived at the hotel, or used any of the public facilities. Then our room had no ventilation. The window was screwed shut. Given that we were there early July the heat and stuffiness of the room was unbearable so on the 2nd night we had to ask for someone to open the window for us. A very helpful member of staff (who we had just seen serving in the bar) came to see if he could force the window open. He couldn't so he went in search of one of the hotel's fans. A few minutes later he appeared saying they were all in use so he was going to go out to the shops to try to buy one for us! Half an hour later (8.30pm) he arrived with the last fan off the shelf at Tesco. We were so grateful...at least we felt we might be able to sleep...So be warned. If you need to book a room which involves NO STAIRS and OXYGEN make sure you have doubled checked with reservations that you are not in Room 2.....!
The friendliness of the staff and the breakfast was lovely. My daughter and I slept well. Location was ideal for us.
Needed an extra pillow and the furniture was a bit dated.
The staff were lovely, very helpful and professional. The hotel main building was quirky and like stepping back in time. Old fashioned elegance. The room had all the facilities required and was very clean.
No lifts and the newer part of the building was like a maze, difficult to find your way around, lots of stairs and doors to carry your luggage up and down. Pillows were flat and lumpy. The bed was not particularly comfortable. The bedroom door was broken and the soft closure above it kept catching on the top of the door. Could do with a bit of upgrading in some areas. Entrance not very well indicated from road.
Staff are friendly and helpful this was my third stay at this hotel
the standard of cleanliness (bathroom) was only just acceptable. the cold tap in the bathroom wasn't working. there was a private function with disco until midnight which spilled over into the bar area and meant the restaurant was closed for the evening. I would have liked to have been advised about this at the time of booking and so been able to make alternative arrangements. wi-fi isn't easily available in all rooms
Everythink was perfect!
Long walk through first floor to second floor
Great value for money - a bit shabby chic but everything you would need for an overnight business stay. Good platters to share bar menu - excellent fish one and waiter very attentive. About 10 mins walk from Fiveways rail station.
Bedroom furniture a bit dated and scratched. No air con.
Dirty bathroom, 1970's cupboards in room, disinterested staff, poor level of general maintenance, poor sound proofing I could clearly hear a conversation in another room coming from the bathroom vent!
The hotel was being used for a wedding and that dominated the whole building. It is looking rather tired
Location to our Birmingham Office as it was right over the road.
The Pub area of the hotel was not open. No reason given. Maintenance of the rooms was poor as I found the light fitting on the sink and a 3/4 bottle of diet coke left in the bathroom.
Clean and tidy, good food and helpful staff
The room we had was right at the front of the building. We couldn't open the windows at all, just as well though because of the incessant traffic noise!
Friendly staff, spacious rooms, delicious breakfast, excellent location!
Friendly staff _
Excellent location: can walk into city centre if reasonably fit; rooms spacious, well-equipped and comfortable; staff friendly. Very good value for money. Has parking. Will stay again.
Could do with refurbishment, but that probably explains good value prices! Outward-facing rooms would be noisy when windows open.
