Beautiful old building, Tolkien slept here. Beautiful furniture and old authentic parts. Very close to the city.
The bathroom was very outdated, the last green bathroomfurniture I will ever see suppose. The carpeting in the halls aswell as in the rooms was full of stains. When we had to ask for WiFi explicitly, we received a modem which we had to plug in the wall of our room. Never experienced this before and this too shall be the last time considering it's 2015. Nowhere in the room there was a plug for the modem so no WiFi in the room, only in the public places. The 2 staffmembers were horrible. Not friendly at all, the second one didn't want to help us hiring a car after our own car broke down the night before 'I don't know where you can hire a car.' And that was it. Unacceptable.
Location, breakfast and staff
Very tired decor, laundry bags left in corridor, room was on cold side and no way of adjusting temperature
It is conveniently located and the hotel has a relaxed and grand atmosphere.
The staff on the reception desk were dippy.
Excellent location with secure free parking, just a mile walk from Convention Centre. Massive bedroom with loads of storage space and no noise from the road if the window is closed. Excellent breakfasts with a good choice of items
Bathroom a little tired
The old part of the building is very beautiful from the outside and there are a few original features inside too.
Very tired looking in side and in need of total refurbishment. Rooms were freezing with hardly any heating. Don't think the room had been cleaned, dirty toilet, cups and no tea, coffee or milk in the room. Bar was closing at 9.30 / 10 pm and only 2 staff on.
large rooms, comfy, tea and coffee, hot water, clean baths
we came back to the bar but it had shut by 10.30. On leaving we were not told we needed a token for the car park.
Friendly service with clean, tidy and pleasant accommodation
The evening meal of fish and chips was the worst I have ever had. And we did not get the bread rolls. The water was not hot enough and the room was dusty. The toilet filled up with water and the plugs did not fit properly so water ran out.
Size of rooms, large comfortable bed, quiet location and no noise heard from other guests, so a good nights sleep was had. plenty of storage, free parking
Long walk from reception to room was on different levels and no lift. hard work but manageable for us, I imagine quite difficult for the less mobile.
Waiting 1 hour for breakfast
Staff are friendly and it's clean and warm
Wi di is a bit challenging
Ever thing cooked breakfast brought to your table none of this D.I.Y. Rubbish and cold food plus free parking for your car
No bad experience
The bar staff were lovely especially the lady with glasses was very attentive and welcoming. The food is nice. The bar is cosy. Nice size room! WiFi worked well.
The traffic outside was noisy as our room was next to a very busy junction. The beds a bit lumpy. The shower was useless no power to wash my hair! A long walk to the room up and down steps so if you have health issues might be a problem.
The hotel looks very impressive
The room I stayed i was old and not refurbished, the staff were friendly enough but there was a serious lack of them (in reception especially)
The price £50 for city booking. Reception and bar area quite modern clean and comfortable
Once you leave the bar area the rest of the hotel and rooms is very dated. Rooms haven't been updated since early 80's at best.
Great tasting food for dinner. Friendly bar and restaurant staff. Good location.
Reception staff could act a bit more friendly. Only some rooms have built-in WiFi, for others you get a box from reception, mine didn't work and they had no replacements.
Nice room with a comfortable bed and all the usual facilities. Self service breakfast with plenty of choice, until 10 at weekends means you don't have to rush to get up. Didn't use Wi-Fi this time but nice to have. Ample free parking.
It's quite a walk to the centre but having stayed there before we were prepared for that. Haven't really got any bad things to say about the Plough and Harrow.
Bar area and food were good, staff helpful, breakfast was good, plenty of parking
No heating in the bathroom, luke warm water, furniture shabby
Cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms not being cleaned properly
Good locations for the city but not easy to acces from out bound city traffic
Staff was lacking and had to chase the for attention and car park security is very poor from people passing buy and causing a headache
Rooms shabby and breakfast terrible
Ugly communal areas Horrible breakfast Horrible dinner
Located only a couple of miles fro the centre, excellent value for money. Bed was too hard for me, but I like a soft bed. Bedding was clean. Facilities were fine for us
Room and furnishings were a little tired and could do with a basic makeover to bring it up to a good standard.
Parking and ok staff
This hotel is tired and has seen better days
Very expensive evening meal - thought overpriced.
