Excellent location for Opera House.
Drinks in bar were very expensive. £10 for a glass of wine and pint of cider.
A few minutes' walk from the Opera house. Great location for touring the Peak District Staff were friendly and very helpful! Very good Derbyshire breakfast! Spacious room- lovely decor and very comfortable bed!
The room was dirty. The bed had black marks on it. The furnishings and decor were something from late 70's early 80's. It also smelled of damp and foist.
All requirements met, staff perfectly helpful, room just as described, very spacious hotel and reception rooms.
Excellent value for money Very comfortable public spaces: a "quiet" room with deep leather sofas and a bar with comfortable seating and TV. Breakfast included a good range of cereals, fresh fruit and freshly cooked options to your liking from an extensive menu selection.
The bedroom, although spacious, would benefit from updating. The bed was 4' 6" with a rather hard mattress. We really are used to at least a 5' bed these days! The breakfast coffee was instant; freshly ground coffee would have complemented an otherwise excellent breakfast!
Comfy bed Big room Breakfast 2 mins walk from buxton centre
Very good welcome from person on desk on arrival (10.30 pm at night) - and concerned that I had everything I needed.
Slightly frayed at the edges - in need of refurbishment
good service, friendly staff, great breakfast
room was OK but beginning to look a bit tired.
the staff where nice food was good
the rooms need updating and decorating
Great staff Excellent WiFi
Warm and clean. Good breakfast.
Decor and fixtures need a major "make-over".
The food and staff were great and helpful and made us welcome I would use the hotel again and happy to provide twin beds
Not enough space to park the cars as the hotel was full
The Portland hotel was far more than I expected. Staff were helpful with good attention to detail. Breakfast was great, the room was reflective of what I had paid for and had free wifi which you wouldn't get in some major hotels.
Clutching a states with this really but the Shower wasn't great for my girlfriend as it lacked a bit of power but for me it was fine. No other problems.
the room was warm and comfortable
the hotel was rather tired but looked as if it was being updated. At breakfast no attention to serving .The hotel certainly lacks front of house sevice
Really friendly staff. Hotel close to town. Big size room.
Noise from outside main road.
The staff the location the size of the room were fine. Breakfast was ok.
The re was loads of fluff und e r the bed. Rest of the bedroom ok. Shower unit looked dirty as the tiles snd grouting were showing signs of wear and tear. The toilet brush and container were dirty. The pillows were flat and slipped done the gap at the top of the bed where a slat was missing
central location, good breakfast and comfortable accommodation
Very friendly and helpful staff Excellent breakfast Superb service
Parking a bit limited Decor getting tired
The mattress not fitting the bed The black mould in the bathroom The shabby furniture The dim lighting The bar was nothing like the pictures on the web All in all a disgusting hotel - should be closed down
The location of Hotel was ideal and easy access to many places of interest. The breakfast was very nice, 1day out the 5 that we stayed it could've had been better, but overall very good. The welcome was very good and friendly and Manager was helpful and informative.
Our room was at the front of the hotel and the Hotel is on a main road, so noisy due to volume of traffic and due to age of building the windows are old and not glazed. Had the Hotel not been busy I would have requested to be moved, also the Hotel allows dogs and a guests dog was barking at 7:00 am in the morning, presumably while the owner was at breakfast, another early morning wake up call. The room was only cleaned or should I say tidied, not that I ever leave it messy once in five days and this was on the second day, it would have been nice to have the room hoovered and towels changed when they were replenishing the tea & coffee. If I had paid full price for the room I would have expected more for my money, attention to detail such as the bathroom needs modernisation and the underneath of the bed was not clean and tidy, under the wardrobe was dusty. However they had tried and made an effort with the appearance of the room, the furniture and bed was very nice and comfortable. Had i known and the Hotel not been busy i would have requested to move rooms. The parking is very limited, however we were able to park in a cul de sac right next to the hotel that was free and
Location was fairly good & room was nice size. Owner was pleasant.
Very old fashioned furniture, bedding, on suite was quiet poor & dated.. alot of dust, kettle was dirty, room was on front side so noisy could here traffic in early hours. Didnt see any other staff other than owner when we arrived, had breakfast & left. Not much selection in breakfast. Could do eith updating.
Dinning Area Comfy Bed
Dated and mouldy bathroom Poor Shower Small Room with bed not accessable from both sides
friendly staff location is excellent for opera house had to leave for airport before breakfast at 0730 but was offered an early breakfast which we couldn't do because of the timings, but, it smelled lovely
Close to centre of Buxton.
In need of a lick of paint, and renewing plumbing (noisy),and fittings..
