The Westminster Hotel overlooks the picturesque Pavillion Gardens in central Buxton. It offers charming, family-run accommodations, and many rooms have views of the park and lake.

Score from 149 reviews Wonderful
The location was it's only positive side. Breakfast was just ok.
The room was grubby, dingey due to low wattage bulbs, no towel rail. No carpet or bedside rug to our room floor. No clean cups on second day of our stay. Very poor tea making facilities. The quilt was so worn it had lumps in it. The bed was very old and cheap with very worn mattress. The whole building smelt fusty.
Owner was happy to give me an early breakfast to fit in with my business needs.
Not many parking spaces for guests as 31 rooms an damp an paper un stuck from walls
The hotel was in an ideal location, a short walk from the town and just opposite the beautiful Opera gardens. The staff were welcoming and efficient. There was evrything we needed for our one night stay.
The car parking is inadequate and we found it better to park in the raod at the side of the hotel.
a bit dated
Only stay in The Portland if you really need to otherwise find somewhere else to stay. This hotel is under invested and is in need of great renovation. Buxton town also has very little to offer a travelling tourist.
Bed and shower
It's a good central location. Friendly and helpful staff. They serve the full English breakfast- which was great.
The downside was that it is in bad need of renovation. In my bedroom the window could not be closed, the wallpaper peeled off from the walls, the bed had one leg shorter, the parking is ridiculous... upon complaining though I was offered a discount but I still think it was overpriced.
Good location friendly staff and decent breakfast .Suited us for a short stay .If visiting Buxton in the future I would certainly consider the Portland again .
Hotel was a bit tatty and in need of some TLC . Scaffolding for building maintenance did not grace the outward appearance . Bathroom was very compact and the same as all other places these days low energy bulbs that do not give enough light .
The repairs in process,
The white gloss paint everywhere.. very make do 1960's.
After complaining that the room we were given was not up to our expectations, we were offered another one, which was an improvement, in terms of décor and access.
We are in our 70s and the first room was on the top floor, which was a bit of a climb!
Location very good for central Buxton
The price was very high for the overall quality of the place The outside is currently being refurbished - the inside is in great need too
Breakfast was good and staff pleasant.
No adequate parking due to scaffolding around Hotel. WI not working. Shower not working. Dogs hairs on bedroom carpet. A dog was present with guest on arrival. N.B. None of above issues were made known to me at time of booking.
Good location. Breakfast very good, staff attentive. Bar sufficient and owner friendly. Coffee/tea making facility.
Toast at breakfast wasn't toast! Room very dated, although the shower worked it needs updating. Needs new shower curtain or screen and tray or holder for shower gel etc. For size of hotel car parking area is small. The hotel is having ongoing renovations and it does badly need updating. Overall, enjoyed stay as for 1 night but wouldn't stay more than that. Not value for money as it is very dated.
Staff were pleasant, cooked breakfast was good.
Classed as a hotel but is really a B & B, spacious bedroom but in serious need of renovation, tiny bathroom and shower was garbage....it served our purpose but certainly no luxury.
Everything else. The hotel or rather bed and breakfast, was tatty and in need of a complete update. When we were there the outside was being painted but the inside is desperate for the same. The bedroom furniture seemed to come from the 50's. The bed was uncomfortable and neither my wife or I slept well. The breakfast was plentiful but the cooked food was greasy!
V nice staff and excellent breakfast
cleaning needs a bit of ungrading. Dust was hanging off the lampshade in the bedroom, though linen and toilet etc all nice and clean. Not too difficult to put right though !
Staff friendly and breakfast of reasonable choice and standard. (although the plates and cups etc. were from many and varied designs). The communal rooms were of a reasonable standard.
Broken washbasin. Broken WC cistern cover. Bathroom waste bin not emptied prior to arrival. Torn bed linen. No hair drier in room. Poor tea/coffee making facilities in room Very poor fittings, furniture and decoration. (in desperate need of refurbishment). Very limited on-site parking.
Breakfast and leaving
Shabby decoration, mildew in tiny shower room, very poor appearance overall save for downstairs lounges and dining room.
Breakfast was excellent. Staff super
Parking not so good single room very small.
breakfast great, served at a good time and staff very friendly and helpful. Location right near a lovely park and restaurants and a short drive from some wonderful walking!
A bit of a squeeze for parking but certainly did not affect our stay.
Nice size bathroom . .
. . A bit tired and was not particularly clean on arrival
Right in the centre of Buxton, on the road from Leek. Good value for money. Clean room and good breakfast. Friendly service.
Parking on site was a bit tight but there is free street parking nearby. The hotel was undergoing renovation but this proved no hardship other than space in the car park.
We paid economy rate and got a hotel that is in the process of renovation. Currently a little tired but great welcome, hearty breakfast and excellent location.
the bathroom! Very dark so seemed dingier than it probably was. No lights near mirrors. Poor view from our window.
The staff were excellent
That major external decorations meant parking on the hotel grounds was impossible, the workmen and scaffolding and mess was surprising to find in peak season, and not like the website and no warning whatsoever was given. I thought I had arrived, (and indeed had!) at a building site. The light was not working in my bathroom and the toilet seat was falling off. The range of breakfast cereals did not change and was very extremely limited. The "scrambled egg" for breakfast tasted of water and in the evening there was an extremely limited bar, i.e. it was mainly shut. No, from my disappointing experience I would not recommend the hotel, indeed I would warn people off.
