Score from 145 reviews Good
Good breakfast, parking and good central location
Standard double room, poor standard, very tired decor and furnishing, and bathroom way past its best
warm room,, nice seating area in room.dining area well set out and clean looking
bed too hard, pillows very uncomfortable.no fan or ventilation in bathroom, very cold in communal rooms
Location, Breakfast, Friendly staf
The bed was very comfortale but it seemed to be a double matress on a king size bed frame which looked a little strange
Location was only a few minutes from Buxton. Clean enough. Breakfast and service in the dining room was good.
Not really enough parking spaces. Everywhere looked very tired and worn. Furniture in bedroom was mismatched - looked as if someone had been to the junk shop! Bathroom was too small (with no heating, so cold as well)
Friendly and helpful staff Good breakfast Good location Parking
The bathroom could do with a refurb (room 16)
Pleasant staff Good location Good choice of breakfast
The bed mattress springs broken? Noisy plumbing? Cold in room/hotel No atmosphere Cold shower on occasion Entry door would not open/close without force (due to loose hinges that couldnt be tightened up)
Its are second visit to the Portland The rooms,on both occasions have been clean, nicely decorated, exceptionely spacious with a comfortable bed. The service and breakfast was also good. Can recommend this hotel.
~ location ~ welcoming ~ delicious breakfast ~ comfortable ~ quiet
~ patchy wifi
We were visiting my sister at fairly short notice and wanted something close to town with parking. The Portland was ideal with a spacious room, a great breakfast and easy parking on the forecourt. The staff at breakfast were very enthusiastic. We loved it and would definataly stay again when in Buxton. Probably the best breakfast too and we've stayed in many establishments this year.
Some of the paintwork was a little tired but it didnt bother us.
We came with our son and grandson (aged 5) to try an hotel stay over. The staff were really very kind and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. We thought the price was very reasonable too.
The shower room in our double bedroom + single bed for our grandson was rather small and cold-room a good size. Our son's single room had a bath which was good.
Very close to centre of town and the Opera House. Good breakfast. Comfortable. Off road parking.
Plumbing was a little old fashioned, hot water tap had a habit of sitting at you.
friendly, convenient,good breakfast
problems with hot water.hotel felt tired and in need of refurbishment.
We liked the location as it was very close to a wedding we were attending
The room was very tired, I.e. The curtains were falling off their tracks, the room was much in need of some TLC n cushions scattered on the bed were highly stained. The hotel itself is in need of a complete makeover
Good location and breakfast
The bathroom in our room needed renewing and the room was unwelcoming. There was a smell of damp in the communal area of the hotel. Overall it felt dirty. Even the key and key ring that was given to me for my room was dirty.
Welcoming, helpful staff, good breakfast, great location, parking. Overall good value for money if you have realistic expectations.
Very dated decor, took a long time (40 mins) for hot water to come through, in need of thorough refurbishment. Can appreciate this would be very expensive in a building like this.
Easy checking good staff and location. Close to transport links and shops.
No problems at all
Location. Friendly staff
Needs a face lift. No hot water.
The breakfasts, the location the helpfulness of the staff.
It was cold in the communal rooms.
Breakfast, location and food and drink in Buxton
Traffic noise, single glazed windows.
The guy I dealt with was friendly and very helpful
The location is perfect, hotel really nice, room lovely and spacious love the cecor. Breakfast choice excellent, bar facilities good, robert the owner very nice person.
Liked the quiet lounge, the breakfasts, the ease of access and the location.
The odd smell downstairs, the loose flush handle in the toilet, the lack of water pressure in the basin cold tap.
