Location I walked in to my room..... And walked straight back out, and never returned. The whole hotel had a musky retirement home smell to it.... and decor to match.

The bed was excellent but the price being charged for breakfast was far too expensive. The coffee was dreadful and the cost of £3 per cup was far too high.I Used to use this hotel constantly and the coffee was the finest in Hull people don't forget poor quality coffee and will go elsewhere . Very poor quality coffee which I cannot understand as it used to be the best in Hull in fact I can recall hosting several meetings there and the coffee being commented on.This is my reason for choosing the Portland on this occassion but I'm afraid I'm afraid we were let down.

Location of Hotel everything central to Hull City centre. The hotel is rather 'dated' and needs to be redorated through-out

Noisy, walls very thin and could hear the couple chatting in the next room, but got it at a very good price so can't complain.

The two things we liked about the hotel was the location firstly and the bar staff were very pleasant. No car parking - as advertised Hotel room in need of serious refurbishment i.e grubby carpets, cracked toilet bowl and floor tiles in room 508 and 509 the door to 509 didnt lock (ie security) dvd and television both either not working or terrible reception, when we asked staff for assistance none was forthcoming.

The bedroom was scrupliously clean The hotel was very tired and shabby. The public areas were poor and the bedroom corridors and lift areas were distinctly bad. I couldnt stay there again

It was in a central location, however I was informed by staff working nearby to be careful around this hotel at night because it was in a really rough area of town The hotel website stated free parking however on arrival we were informed that the hotel no longer offers this and they hadn't updated their website. We were not happy as the free parking was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. The hotel rooms are also very outdated and old fashioned. The lighting in the room was really bad, not good for women when applying make up. There was also alot of noise outside the hotel late at night which sounded like people fighting. We also felt unsafe walking back to the hotel when we were door by door staff at a nearby nightclub that the hotel we were staying in was in a really rough part of town and to be careful on our way home.

Good location for local shopping mall Booked two rooms only one on booking. On site parking only holds four cars. Do not venture out after dark. Rooms very dated and toilet/ bathroom needs updating. Staff could be more pleasant.

Was not impressed with the hotel. Would not consider staying there again. As above. The room was dark and outdated. Could do with modernisation. Windows were steamed up when we arrived and the bathroom was dark and dank.

The only thing going for this hotel is its central location. We travelled by train and found its proximity to the railway station quite useful. This was rated by the aa as four star. I think that the aa should re- assess the rating because I dont think the room we were allocated attained that standard. The carpet was grubby, the bed throw-over had previous occupants coffee stains, the bathroom had mildew on the tiles and dirt around the taps. The bath was so stained I would have thought twice about washing a dog in it.Needless to say the entire experience was dissappointing. The hotel in general is still in the 1950's and requires serious updating

Polite staff and nice room at a reasonable price That breakfast if we paid for it separately was £14.50 per person when the room was only £44. This is unreasonable in my opinion and as you can get a breakfast for less than £10 if you go out of the hotel then I think that this needs reviewing or at least offering a rate where breakfast is put in.

I like the Portland because of its location primarily. The service is efficient and the breakfast is good. The hotel is in need of refurbishment to remain 4 star.

The staff were were very friendly and entertaining. The Hotel was advertised with a day pass for a fitness center but when we arrived at the hotel they said that they were not offering this service. The wi-fi coverage was not good through the hotel.

The hotel is very central, giving you the ideal opportunity to explore and provided a great reference point. I enjoyed having breakfast outside on the terrace just over from one of the shopping centres. It is easy to find your way around the city, taxis are very cheap and everyone I met was very friendly.

The location is convenient for popping out into town and its a short walk from the train station. False advertising. The gym membership mentioned on booking.com web site and in the Portlands literature does not exist, the room I had was old and tired, the tv did not work, the telephone did not work, the shaving point did not work and the lifts are painfully slow.

Portland Hotel was in a good central location for the City Centre, close to all the shops. Very friendly staff. Can be a bit noisy at night when all the clubs are closing. I thought the breakfast was a bit overpriced for what there was.

The room was really clean and the bed was really comfy. Plus the staff were friendly and the location was perfect in the centre of town. The parking was a bit of a walk and the room was quite old fashioned.
