This hotel is in need of a refurbishment,carpets and fittings are old and stained,the curtains in the room were dirty,the room and communial areas are dark,however the staff were very hospitable. |

My husband and I enjoyed the hotel since it was in the center of Hull. Also, my English friend from Hull was able to meet with us there. Every time we come to Hull from usa and Germany, we come to the Portland. We missed not having ice and a bottle opener in the room. Everything else was perfect. Especially the tea and coffee every morning. The street noise at night gets too loud at times but the police were right there to rid the teenagers off the street. Good job. |

Conveniently placed for centre city activity, near to the shops. The bed was comfortable. The menu looked good, but we did not actually eat in the hotel. Everything looked rather sad and faded; cobwebs on the ceiling, one tap leaked, there was no fan or air-conditioning, so we had the window open & were disturbed at 5.00 a.m. by noise outside, including a skip being delivered/collected from the business below. Our children were in a separate room and had to change twice, before getting a room with full working facilities. No way would we call it a4 star hotel. |

The staff when we booked in were very helpful, even though there was a bit of a problem finding our booking. The reception was very welcoming , clean and tidy. First impressions were very good . The gentleman helping us park the car was very helpful and very pleasant. The carpets had a lot of stains on them , they really did need a good clean. In our room the wall paper in the corner had started to peel off. There was tea and coffee provided , but its a good job we didnt want more than one cup. There was not enough towels in the room, although we could of asked for more. |
