To old, in need of modernisation, no shower curtain in the bathroom, but a notice saying please put the shower curtain in the bath before a shower!! No information pack in the room, the room was cold with old fashioned heating system, cleaner banging on the door, even though do not disturb sign on door. No Internet in room very poor signal strength, beds not made, room dingy, and after one afternoon sleeping for two hours, left the hotel and stayed with family, at checkout, after voiceing my opininions at checkout, the girl said it was probably because the hotel was in the process of being sold!!

The location was convenient for us. The room was light and clean and tidy. The young ladies on the reception desk were very friendly. The bathroom had a bad smell in it. There was no room service facility at 10.45pm Need biscuits for female guests!!!

My room looked tired with an old bed that has a hole on the side. The bathroom was also not particularly nice. You pay for what you get I guess!

It was in a central location, however I was informed by staff working nearby to be careful around this hotel at night because it was in a really rough area of town The hotel website stated free parking however on arrival we were informed that the hotel no longer offers this and they hadn't updated their website. We were not happy as the free parking was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. The hotel rooms are also very outdated and old fashioned. The lighting in the room was really bad, not good for women when applying make up. There was also alot of noise outside the hotel late at night which sounded like people fighting. We also felt unsafe walking back to the hotel when we were door by door staff at a nearby nightclub that the hotel we were staying in was in a really rough part of town and to be careful on our way home.

The only thing going for this hotel is its central location. We travelled by train and found its proximity to the railway station quite useful. This was rated by the aa as four star. I think that the aa should re- assess the rating because I dont think the room we were allocated attained that standard. The carpet was grubby, the bed throw-over had previous occupants coffee stains, the bathroom had mildew on the tiles and dirt around the taps. The bath was so stained I would have thought twice about washing a dog in it.Needless to say the entire experience was dissappointing. The hotel in general is still in the 1950's and requires serious updating

Polite staff and nice room at a reasonable price That breakfast if we paid for it separately was £14.50 per person when the room was only £44. This is unreasonable in my opinion and as you can get a breakfast for less than £10 if you go out of the hotel then I think that this needs reviewing or at least offering a rate where breakfast is put in.

The staff were were very friendly and entertaining. The Hotel was advertised with a day pass for a fitness center but when we arrived at the hotel they said that they were not offering this service. The wi-fi coverage was not good through the hotel.

The bed was excellent but the price being charged for breakfast was far too expensive. The coffee was dreadful and the cost of £3 per cup was far too high.I Used to use this hotel constantly and the coffee was the finest in Hull people don't forget poor quality coffee and will go elsewhere . Very poor quality coffee which I cannot understand as it used to be the best in Hull in fact I can recall hosting several meetings there and the coffee being commented on.This is my reason for choosing the Portland on this occassion but I'm afraid I'm afraid we were let down.

Excellent city centre location, though on main road so a little noisy late at night over the weekend. Complimentary parking at a nearby shopping centre was also very good and saved a lot of extra expense.

The location is a big plus. The room was comfortable but it looked tired in its decor, the car parking was not very good considering the hotel is classed as a 4*.The prices of the drinks seemed to fluctuate throughout the evening?

“We had never stayed in a Holiday Inn Express befroe,we were very impressed with just about everything from price to location. Very modern, easy access to the theatre and car parking. More than satisfied with the continental breakfast and newspapers. Very comfortable indeed, we would recommend and stay in a Holiday Inn express again as it suited our requirements perfectly.” Joanne, Bradford |
