Loved the friendly staff. Beautiful traditional common room lounge, great for Tea. The breakfast croissants were out of this world! Fun creative rooms with a super comfortable bed and modern amenities.
The bathrooms were quite small, but very clean with modern fixtures.
Location was amazing and the overall premises are very nice. Our room was really a good size but our friends had a tiny room so watch out when you book. A bit pricy...
In room service and breakfast service was way too slow. Ordered breakfast for 2 at 8 30 AM first day and they showed up at 9 15, with only one spoon etc and hot milk vs cold milk. Second day same story..glad I wasn't running off to catch a plane...
Hotel was charming, unique and very English. Walk in the entrance and the incredible service doesn't stop!!! Loved loved loved the experience.
location, staff (Victoria !!!!)felt like home
The courtesy of the staff and the location. It is perfect.
I enjoyed my suite. Like most English hotels everything is on the small side and I would have enjoyed travelling with a partner. Just too small. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast service was great. Staff very helpful and I gather from speaking with them, that a few changes were going to be made.
Was not really impressed with the layout especially in terms of the bathrooms. Gather that these are going to be redone and an upgrade would make a great difference.
Staff so friendly and helpful Fabulous decor Great location
V small bathroom
The bathroom was very small.
The location was perfect for me and the staff were wonderful - attentive, helpful and friendly. I felt very comfortable and would stay again as well as recommend the hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Portobello Hotel.
Though my room was quite tiny, was fine for a few nights stay. However, the bed was not comfortable and the shower was a rather large step up/down without a grab bar to help make it a little safer. It would be difficult for someone with stability issues and impossible for someone with a disability.
The hotel achieves the home from home feeling that it seeks. We felt like cherished guests, nothing was too much trouble. Service was swift and food served with charm and panache.
The tiny en suite shower room and we was a real challenge.
Staff is just incredible..friendly, helpful, efficient. They make the hotel what it is.
Wifi a little too slow.
Very friendly people and a nice ambience, very clean
the bathroom is a little small
Location, nice décor, decent air-con and some nice touches such as Nespresso coffee machine and fresh milk
The friendly, helpful staff, the very comfy bed & how the room was prepared for your return in the evening & also the air conditioning was a godsend
Room a bit on the small side & bathroom much much too small!
Everything,would recommend this hotel,definitely.
Love it's originiality!
Location was good, hotel public areas were clean and comfortable.
Room 45 at the very top of the building must be the worst room I have ever stayed in. The bed was a futon on the floor, not great for a person with a bad back. There was a wasted, free standing bath taking up most of the available space in the bedroom while the shower and toilet were crammed into a very small closet. As a solo business traveler, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
The Charm and room design. With some reservations a great Hotel to be recommended.
Staff quality. Some members seemed to be incompetent. More likely as Students work in Summer.
Nice looking hotel
The staff were very rude and unhelpful. I had booked for 2 nights, and when I arrived they said they only had one night reserved. Very, very, very annoyed as I then had to pay full price for a last minute booking at another London hotel which wasn't in the right location.
The Girl on the desk was polite and helpful.
The room we stayed in, room number 5, was appauling. Old, shabby and the bathroom was basically a cupboard! Awful, awful. We spent £240 to stay in a sweaty box! Not good value for money and will be writing to the hotel to express our concerns.
the room was beautiful, with veranda doors opening to the gardens.
It was a hot day and the bed was made with duvet so unless one switch on the aircon/fan (which i hate and it is quite unhealthy) it was impossible to sleep under the covers.
Everything about The Portobello! The team, the rooms, the thoughtfulness, the personalisation - I consider it an honour to stay there!
Wonderful staff and a sweet, comfortable hotel in the middle of Notting Hill. Will definitely be back!
I generally liked the helpful staff. Their overall approach was positive and relaxed. Room service was quite swift and tasted fresh and good. Cleaners did a good job maintaining cleanliness in the bathroom and bedsheets. AC was perfect. TV was perfect and so was the free WiFi. Location was splendid. Even if you had to go east into the city. Close to Hyde Park, Oxford St, Kensington and Notting Hill of course. There was a taylor/dry cleaner across the street which is great if you're in London for a ball or party. The staff were very helpful on the phone.
The lounge on the bottom floor was sweet but not very welcoming. A sincere invitation to sit down for some afternoon tea or a glass of champagne when back at the hotel for changing or resting would have been nice. The nightshift concierge was a bit slow. We expected at least a "welcome to hotel Portobello". It left us initially thinking we had come to the wrong place.
The location was excellent if you want to access Portobello Road with the street market, huge variety of shops and restaurants. It is easy walking distance (10 minutes) to Hyde Park, double decker open top bus tours, and good pubs. Due to early flight arrival, Victoria at the reception desk let us into the room by 10:00 am even though the official booking time was 3:00 pm. What great customer service. Room 46 was recently renovated on the top floor. We loved the two windows which could be opened for fresh air, and sound of birds. Lots of mirrors gave the impression of more space. The bed was extremely comfortable (although low to the floor which was great for us but may be a problem for others). The breakfast room was charming and elegant.
We had room 46 which had a small bathroom (or creative use of a closet depending on your outlook). We don't know if this was representative of other rooms. It was a bit tight but acceptable.
