The setting was stunning and the room very comfortable although my daughter and I would have liked a better view but appreciate that we only stayed for 1 night. |

I loved the way staff were always willing to go the extra mile in a most graceful way. Everything was done to ensure that our stay was as delightful as possible - and it was. The pillows were not very nice. It is almost churlish to complain about one thing when the hotel delivers so much. That was all we could find not to like. |

The hotel and grounds were superb and it was within easy reach of some interesting places. The decor is starting to fade. Our room had stained furnishings, walls and carpet and just something simple such as a broken toilet roll holder which would be so easy to rectify. |

We thoroughly enjoyed the standard of cuisine both at dinner and breakfast. The grounds would have been idylic if not for the building work see below When we first went to our room we were dissappointed to see a make shift sofa which was not at all comfortable as you kept sliding down and had no back support. We mentioned this to reception immediately and they said they would try to find another comfortable chair like to one in there already so we could watch TV in comfort. This did not materialise until the second afternoon (our last evening). The service at breakfast was slow (45 minutes to get a cup of tea and to take our order!).The grounds would have been idylic if not for the building work that disrupted the peacefulness and woke us early at 8am each morning. We do think this should have been pointed out to us at time of booking as the main reason we chose Powder Mills was for the p |

Nice setting but room was a bit tired & dated. Staff very good. Restaurant & food was OK but nothing special. Had lamb which was a bit lacking in flavour & toffee soufle was dire. |

Good hotel in a beautiful and quiet area. Suited us as we are over 60. Not perhaps suitable for children as no indoor pool, and not so much for them to do. Staff very attentive and food in restaurant excellent. Ideal for a relaxing break. The only thing we would personally prefer, is that dogs were not allowed, could be noisy. Not too keen to think an animal may have been in the bedroom, but this is because we are not animal lovers. Nevertheless we would definately return again. |

the location was idyllic and very pretty. Room surpassed expectations. As paying guests we were unable to book our evening meal at the hotel due to staff shortage and one restaurant closed so had to leave the hotel and drive elsewhere to eat. This was a bit disappointing as it was our Silver Wedding Anniversary so wanted it to be special. |

The hotel is in a quiet place, with long walk round an adjacent lake that brings a view up across the 1066 battlefield. The furniture, wood-fire, friendly staff, welcome for dog-owners and very fine restuarant take one back to an earlier and more relaxed period of life in Britain, This must be the best hotel within many miles. |

While we were there the snow and ice prevented the chef from staying on and we had to have soup and sandwiches the first night. This did not in any way spoil our visit, the staff and owner were very concerned for all our plans and could not have been more helpful and attentive. Each day we had an update on the surrounding roads and we extended our stay as a result. We look forward to going back. We loved all the antique furniture and furnishings but it may not suit younger tastes. The bed we had was in an old frame and did creak rather but it suited the room. |

The location was lovely, set back from the road. The lake and pond were nice places to sit and walk around especially with the resident birds/wildlife. I was very surprised to be able to hear people talking in the adjoining rooms, even heard their phone ring, and I am deaf in one ear. A bit disappointing but still a relaxing place to stay. |
