Good comfortable hotel in an interestiing area not too far from London. We are looking for a nice hotel in Kent/ East Sussex as a regular escape to the country. We have tried many in the area, some good and some bad.

The friendly caring approach of all the members of staff. Well appointed within the confines of that available to a building with such a history. A very relaxing hotel immediatley felt at home. Tranquil , peaceful, caring.

The staff were excellent and coped magnificently given that some of the key management were sick and they had to contend not only with normal guests but also a large number of others involved in a weddiing reception. Despite the fact that the Chef was among those sick the restaurant food was also excellent both at dinner and breakfast the following morning.

Dinner in the restaurant We were one of at least three rooms who stayed in the hotel because we were running the marathon on sunday. The staff were aware the marathon was on and yet the hotel failed to make any effort to accomodate an early breakfast - despite our requests. The staff were nice but lacking in enthusiasm to accomodate guests. Overall I wouldn't recommend for anyone who needs a hotel to be accomodating - if you are 'run of the mill' then stay here.

Lovely grounds, very comfortable room. Good service and helpful staff. Didn't like 10% being added to our restaurant bill without being asked, prefer to decide ourselves if and how much we tip! This put us off having second nights meal at hotel.

A wonderful hotel with really friendly staff. It is situated in a beautiful location with lovely grounds. The decor is first class and wow the bathroom! The quality of the food was outstanding - real Michelin star food for a fraction of the price. Can't wait to go back, next time for a longer stay.n

It was a beautiful hotel, with lovely staff and homely atmosphere. The grounds were lovely and if the weather had been better it would have been a lovely walk. Wellies were avaialble for guests which was a lovely touch though. We were disappointed with the choices on the menu for dinner, but were grateful for the staff to provide a meal which was more suitable for our taste without any fuss. The room was too hot and we were unable to sleep we could not turn off the radiators but when we explained this to the receptionist, she said she would report it. Other guests were complaining they were cold. There was also a power cut in the annex and guests were given torches to get to the main building. It would have been nice to have a chair and a dressing table in the room, I had to sit on the bed to do make up and hair as the sink and toilet were in front of the mirror and I could not lean in close to the mirror to see well enough. We had to look for bar staff to order drinks, as the bar was not manned all the time. We had to report a broken spindle on the banister it was sticking out with a nail in the end.

Great traditional ambience and comfort in a beautiful countryside setting. Very dog friendly with splendid walking opportunities. Spotlessly clean rooms. For the most part the staff were very attentive, friendly and polite. These are only minor complaints. However, the service charge of 10% was irritating on top of already premium food and drink prices. Staff slightly stretched at times. Newspapers not delivered to room as promised.

I loved the location and setting. The Hall was welcoming - the lounge areas were calm and relaxing. The room had ample space for sitting and reading etc. There was nothing I disliked but I would have preferred a room with a better view - (not offered a choice when booking)

We particularly liked the fact that the Hotel has such enormous character and has not been spoiled by over-development. It was also good to stay at a family-run hotel and to be able to meet the owner. The setting in its own grounds is superb and the hotel itself has a gracious and elegant feel. The staff are helpful and the food is to a high standard. The menu is excellent. A very good find!

Large rooms. Very clean and well decorated. Log fire in the entrance, the sweet smell of burning wood pervading throughout the hotel. Excellent food and a wide choice available from the menu. The staff were very helpful - service excellent. The hotel is situated in beautiful countryside. Our room overlooked a large lake and the view from our room was fantastic. Although the evening meal was excellent, it was a bit expensive.

Lovely hotel and grounds. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel has a lot of character with lots of sitting areas and nooks and crannies. Our room was very comfortable and bathroom was small but nice. Breakfast was in the lovely dining room and there wasn't a huge choice but perfectly adequate - cereals, tinned fruit, bread and pastries and hot breakfast like bacon, eggs, etc. Overall we had a great stay and there and I would definitely stay there again.

A very friendly hotel with welcoming staff. As a consequence many guests return regularly. The hotel is set in acres of its own grounds and in beautiful countryside. It has a lovely restaurant and excellent food - breakfasts especially good. We are looking forward to a return visit! I am disabled and need a walk-in-shower. There is only 1 designated disabled room. This has a shower rather than a bath. However, the shower still has a high stepped entrance and although the hotel can provide a temporary ramp the facility is far from ideal. In fairness to Powder Mills Hotel they are no worse than the majority of uk hotels in this respect. Very, very few hotels have any idea of the needs of most people who have mobility disabilities.

Bedroom was lovely, well decorated, clean and the beds were comfortable. Setting was great, peaceful, places to explore. Had most mod cons but felt restful and slightly old fashioned in a nice way. Staff were friendly & welcoming and the whole place had a relaxed atomosphere. Breakfast was outstanding! TV only had 4 channels that we could find

The setting and grounds were stunning. The staff were always cheerful and obliging. We had the Wellington Suite which was wonderful. The bathroom had no door (only an archway) leading to it and it was difficult to shower as there was only a hand held shower attachment.
