The Wessex Royale is a delightful Georgian hotel with an excellent location in the centre of Dorchester. It has free Wi-Fi and an á la carte restaurant.

Originally built in 1881, Beggar’s Knap Guest House offers 4-star accommodation in the centre of historic Dorchester. It is just 3 miles from Hardy’s Cottage, the birthplace of Thomas Hardy.

This is so well situated for the cafes and restaurants of Dorchester and is only a short walk into town. The bed is large and comfortable, as too is the bathroom. I will definitely stay here again.
There was nothing I disliked about this hotel.
Very clean modern looking Premier Inn. Great location next to Brewery Square. Large room. Very helpful staff.
Closeness to a really good pub & restaurants Quiet Friendly staff Very clean
Air Con was a bit hit & miss in the room. Either too hot or too cold.
We had a lovely weekend with our elderly mothers. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and rearranged bookings so we could be on the same floor. Nothing was too much trouble, and the attitude was always friendly. Great breakfast too.
Rather over-heated corridors.
The location was ideal, 2 minutes walk from the railway station and a 15 minute walk to the center of Dorchester. A great choice of places to dine, with shops and the cinema just around the corner. The staff were very welcoming and the breakfast excellent.
I don't like it that you cannot contact reception from your room. If there was an emergency, you have no way of letting people know, if you don't have a mobile phone or signal. This is I feel a very serious problem and one that should be addressed with either a phone or an emergency button.
Easy to find, friendly staff team available to answer my questions. Restaurant facilities great and other choices of food outlets close by. Proximity to the station excellent. Room up to expected standards resulting in a peaceful night. Thank you.
Car parking facilities limited, so I had to feed the meter in the Market long stay car park.
Stayed last year and evening menu was all Italian. Greatly improved this year with range of burgers, steaks, salads etc. No need to eat out this time. Breakfast also excellent. Staff remain pleasant and helpful. Rooms clean, comfortable and quiet. Stayed two nights and couldn't fault it. Central location so wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Clean Lovely Staff - Polite & Friendly Fantastic Buffet Breakfast Near to bars/restaurants Lots of hot water
Not easy to find!! Needs more signs and directions on booking. Not enough car parking. Had to park car around corner in public car park which luckily was free on the weekend.
Great location, quiet rooms, good breakfast, very friendly staff.
Double bed too bouncy. One person moves and the other person bounces about.
Know what you get Convenience
Charging for WiFi - did not use it as a result
Modern hotel, really friendly, proud and helpful staff
Pleasant stay and nice restuarants close by
not enough car parking spaces
First class meal deal.lovely food.
Duvet too heavy. Draft from air con difficult to control or dial small to read well.
The comfort (as advertised) of quietly tasteful rooms, not fancy, but clean and modern minimalism. Pleasant and even charming staff, making one feel attended to with professional and unobtrusive pleasantness. Manager was superlative, including but not restricted to dealing with a restaurant matter. Should I travel to Dorchester again, I will most certainly book here.
Nitpicking only here: the signage in the elevator indicating the button to press for the restaurant was mislabelled G instead of UG, and it's only important for someone with bad knees where stairs are a difficulty. Very very minor point. Restaurant: Very long waiting times for meal service, esp. considering the low number of guests. Some aspects of my meal were very poorly done (not nitpicking here) but manager dealt with quickly and pleasantly.
Spacious, clean room. Exceptional staff.
Unfortunately heating set extremely high, resulting in uncomfortable nights sleep.
Very large airy room with queen size bed and quality bathroom fittings that worked well. Very friendly and helpful receptionist who checked us in quickly after midnight.
The pillows were a bit uncomfortable.
Big room Comfy bed Room for travel cot Good location
The staff were very efficient and friendly. Nicely decordated. Deep bath. Good bedding.
bed was far too hard. No comfy chairs to sit on. Would have liked a couple of chairs and a table.
Its all very good hospitality.
They should not charge for WiFi after a half hour.
The room was comfortable bed comfortable in general every thing was awesome
Comfortable room Tasty breakfast Good central location Staff very helpful
No mobile phone signal in hotel, no telephone in room to dial out. I had to borrow the phone at reception to call home to say I had arrived. Paid for Wifi but the connection was poor.
Location .. for Dorchester Town Center, cinema, dining choicesand easy access to both rail stations, this location has it all. Buffer breakfast best value in the area. ATM around the corner as is convenience store. Definitely on my list of places to stay.
Nothing not to like.
Staff friendliness Cleanliness Location
Had to pay for wifi
The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and well presented. A real credit to the company.
I'm afraid most of the cooked breakfast buffet items we had were cold.
the location is excellent... but see the downside!
The main problems relate to access to the hotel. There are no clear signs on arrival (by car) in the station area and the entrance is around the corner from where you might expect. There is very limited parking (drop off only) in front of the hotel. The main car park is a five minute walk away, and is a pay and display nightmare ...and the overnight ticket expires at 7.30 am! Surely the hotel management could find a better arrangement? In our opinion, the hotel is definitely NOT customer friendly at present and we will look elsewhere in the future.
